Re: What are the pros and cons of Cricket Wireless?

We just switched from AT&T to Cricket last week. We had 2 lines on Share plan, 3 GB with rollover, $110/month (no corp discounts for us). Actually paying $125 since one line under contract, lost $15 discount.
With Cricket, 2 lines, 2.5 GB each, $70. The $40 difference in plan costs was too much to ignore.
It is worth paying the ETF. Cost less than buying phone outright.
No microcell with Cricket, so I tested our AT&T phones in the house for two weeks without a microcell before switching. 2 bars in the basement, 3 in the rest of the house, no missed calls, no degradation of voice quality.
No hotspot with Cricket, so we can't use our tablets at camp, no big deal, we can get enough news & weather on the smartphone..
May never go west of the Mississippi, so coverage is not an issue.
Went to an uncrowded Cricket store in Hagerstown MD to get the first line (a temporary line to test service), and no issues. Ported second line online, went very smoothly. Kept temporary line as my new number rather than port my old number, then cancelled with AT&T.
Very happy we made the switch.

Re: testing with pre pay

You can pay however you want, just be sure you're not signed up for auto-pay.

Re: testing with pre pay

So if I pay for one month they will not automatically charge me for another month of service. usually I just buy the refill cards at Walmart or something and that is what I may end up doing it again. I just need to know if I can trust that they are not going to charge me. Thanks

Re: What are the pros and cons of Cricket Wireless?

You cannot use Google Voice for voicemail on MVNO providers that do not include conditional call forwarding.

Android since v1.0. Linux user since 2001.

I'm using Simple Mobile, and use my GV number as my primary number. Googel Voice Voicemail works just the same as when I was on AT&T.

Re: anyone test driving

I switched from Verzion!...I am very happy! You have nothing to lose!..If Tmobile works for you, do yourself a favor and escape from Verzion Outrageous fees!..If you decided to switch over MAKE SURE TO GET RID OF AUTO PAY before you switch over (if you use this service)..because Verzion will debt the entire balance from your checking acount!..Tmobile will pay your fees but it could take up to 60 days before you receive you debt card from them...Then contact Verzion to inform that you need to make payments on your acount until you received you debit card from tmobile.

Re: anyone test driving

Update:
Couldn't get anything more than Edge at my house.
Took the phone back 5 days from receiving it. The guy looked it over and said thanks so I left.
A couple weeks later I get an email that if I don't return the phone, they're going to charge me. Called T-mobile and they said they had no record of me returning the phone. The next day they charge my card $375.
I drive down to the store and ask if so and so is in. The guy there said no. I said I dropped off the phone at such and such day and now they charged me.
He went and looked in the back and found the phone I had. I asked if he could give me a receipt, he said there is no way to give a receipt. I called T-mobile and they said they are supposed to give me a receipt. Finally, after a month I got my $375 back. A little stressful.
So if you test drive, make sure you get a receipt when you drop it off.
T-Mobiles accounting is very poor.

Out of the four phones that I have bought from them, I was only charged for two. I was never charged for my Note Edge and my iPhone 5S. I called to ask what happened to it showing up on my EIP so I could pay for the phone in full and they never had a record that I ordered the phone. They had no problem unlocking those phones either.

Not sure what T-Mobile is doing but if this happened two times to me out of four phones, I can imagine how many others have never been charged for phones either. Then there is a person like you who gets charged for the phone that was returned.

good and the bad

I am a tmo fan lol. They work in all the places I go except in the mountains in the town that we visit everywhere else up there it's pretty good that I have been to. The plans and everything just make since not like vz and att tlittle caps and at crazy prices. What do you all think? Are you happy?

Re: What are the pros and cons of Boost Mobile?

And to find out if a given phone can be used on Boost, you'd have to ask Boost. Even if it can work on the Boost network (Sprint towers), Boost can refuse to accept it.

Boost network? No such thing. You must have meant sprint network

Re: What are the pros and cons of Cricket Wireless?

Cricket is what's known as a wholely owned MVNO. Similar to how Metro PCS is to T-Mobile, except Metro actually owned some towers and bandwidth. Cricket never owned squat except for their crummy stores. And all of those are in rented storefronts.

8Mbps is not too speedy these days. And that's max, not typical speed.

Android since v1.0. Linux user since 2001.

Cricket is not an mvno. They are wholly owned by att... and yes they had thier own network (cdma) before att bought them. Metro pcs is wholly-owned by tmobile. Mvnos purchase from the big 4. Cricket or metro wouldn't buy from thier parent company. Education is a must bud !

Re: What are the pros and cons of Cricket Wireless?

Can i use an atnt s3 on cricket still. I think you all said it will work fie. Will a verizon iphone 5c.

Re: What are the pros and cons of Cricket Wireless?

My wife moved to Cricket a month or so ago and took her own phone: an iPhone 6 Plus. She's been extremely happy with it, coverage has been great. Had one problem and it was solved through an online chat session within minutes, start to finish. Speed has not been an issue at all. We're going to test coverage more thoroughly on some upcoming trips. If that experience is as good as it has been so far, I may well switch my service (currently with Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo) to Cricket. Cricket's price is hard to beat.

Re: What are the pros and cons of Cricket Wireless?

I really want to switch but stuck in verizon contract.

questions

Hey everyone. Me and my mom are currently on Verizon Wireless and possibly considering a switch to cricket. I went to a store and picked up a phone and service for one month to test it in all of the areas that we go and I have been happy so far. I am considering leaving Verizon after the 2 year agreement are up for my galaxy s3 and iPhone 5c. the guy at the store told me that I can use any AT&T phone on cricket so I can pick up an at&t samsung galaxy s4 or five or whatever on Amazon and use it with the network without any problems. Is this true? Also people on the forums have told me that my moms iPhone 5c will work fine as Verizon phones are not unlocked which is probably the best thing about Verizon is that they do not lock down their phones. I will have to see how the service works because we travel to the mountains and will be going there next weekend. I am extremely happy with the service so far. The speeds are slower but plenty fast enough for what I am trying to do. I am using an lg optimus for testing and that is an HSPA+ only phone I think and I am getting 3 or 4 megabytes per second download at my house. the only thing that is a little worrisome is the paintings are in the 300 millisecond range but YouTube videos play just fine. Is there anything else that I should consider as me and her can go on a plan together and have two lines with two and a half gigabytes per piece for $70 and even after a contractor up and we have the discount the cheapest thing we could do on Verizon would still be close to $100. I need any help that you can give. I have also considered buying another phone off Amazon for AT&T network and Galaxy S 3 or 4 and using cricket as my main service and picking up a flip phone that I saw on Amazon for $10 for my current line as I cannot afford $270 early termination fee. I do not know if this is a good way to go or if I should just wait. maybe I can suspend my current line for the remainder of the contract. I am just not sure what is the best way to go about this. if it works I really do not want to stay on Verizon after the contracts are up but I want to make sure that my moms iPhone will continue to work as I do not think she wants to spend three or four hundred dollars for a new iphone even if it will save us 20 or 30 bucks per month Easy. are there any downsides to cricket that I may have not seen yet? Also when our contracts are up if we keep Verizon for that time can we just go to a cricket store in port the numbers and how does that process work? I think they said we have to have the account number and they can do the rest from there. Another question I have is if I test my current cricket line for a month and do not pay it again how long is that account active without me having to pay another activation fee. if the account goes on active when I am ready to switch over why I have to purchase another SIM card? I would really love to be on cricket and I would love to sing for a smaller company even though I think they are AT&T now. Verizon is in my opinion a rip off and we are paying almost a hundred twenty dollars a month for 1 gig of data on two phones. however I just purchased my galaxy s3 and do not really want to pay for a new phone again not to mention the fact that I would have to keep this line active on a basic phone for 15 bucks a month for 30 minutes which is a joke. When we are ready to switch do I have to call Verizon and tell them I'm ready to port my number or just retrieve the account number and give that to cricket and I know they will try to get me to switch and may make it hard for me to do so. also will cricket ever been getting mobile hotspot? I do not use it very often and I guess I could manage especially if saving money and I've always liked prepaid better anyway. Please help me I am trying to figure out what to do and have been thinking about it all day.

I'm looking for is much the back and I can probably get. I do not want to rush into something and regret it what is y I am testing a line of service with an l_g optimus this month and it was on sale
