Ya my baseband is vd an iv use custome roms I was wondering whats the fastest running rom wanting to get the best performance out of my phone I know ppl have got a 1500 bench score an I was wanting to atless get close to that. Any help an sugestions is appreciated

sorry but this is rubbing me the wrong way, please use the search feature to find out WHY people are getting 1500 bench scores, the reason is it's not compatible with quadrent, and some other benchmarkers, so when quadrent tests, and that test fails it gets a time stamp of zero which raises the score, even though the test was never actually performed. You're not going to be playing COD, or reach or even WOW on your phone, so stop trying to "get the best performance out of your phone" if you truly want the best performance out of your phone, leave it stock, thats the ABSOLUTE ONLY WAY to achieve solid performance from your phone. A rom is a non warrantied, non supported(for all intensive purposes it is, just not by manufactures and carriers), and NOT FOR YOU!!! You're likely just someone who wants to show off your phone, I've been there, it's cool to be cool for a bit but it's not going to get you any action, and no one really thinks your cool because your cell phone is over clocked. I'd forget about this forum and just be happy you phone can surf the web. On a side note you probably would have been better off searching the threads for a Q&A thread instead of getting on a rom thread, a nightly rom thread for that matter, and asking what the best rom is. To answer your question, honestly, due to the level of forum knowledge you've shown here, I really do believe you should just root your phone but stick with a stock rom. There is z4root out there, it's a really easy install apk, and its a one click done thing, you won't have to worry about complex things like ADB, SDKs, JDKs, JREs, command prompt/terminal (emulators), or custom recoveries, and thats just for getting roms, if you want performance you need more things like build.props, and custom kernels, not to mention the slew of apps you would need just to deal with all the custom work your doing to your phone. Now if you were wise enough to actually research all of those things, and learn about them, i think you would probably already know which rom was right for you and you'd know why i posted they way i did. You're not the only one, you're just excited about what you can do with this phone and thats fine, but as your parents probably told you there is a time and a place for everything and in this thread is neither.

If you'd would like to send me a PM i'd be glad to get you started in the right direction, i can provide links for everything that you'll need, even z4 root and i'm never going to try to stop anyone from learning, because i think there is more to gain when more people know what their doing, but if working on cell phone software isn't your thing, I wouldn't waste the time.

I sincerely hope this post helps you, which ever choice you make, i'll be glad to help you but this is the answer you really needed.

more on the bench marking, i think i need to explain the zero thing, quadrent is basing it's scores on the time it takes to complete a list of actions, the faster an action is completed the higher the resulting score, by this measure a score of 5 seconds, is not as good as a score of 2 seconds. when the test fails it returns a score of 0 seconds, quadrent then thinks the test was completed really fast and thus boosts the score, but your still not actually getting that score.

guys i'm just finally getting the VD source from LG since it was saying not found eariler so I will see what changed and work on a new xionia, then cm7 nightly. cm7 has alot of changes on the cyanogen-specific side so it should be interesting.

Performance can mean different things to different people, and some ROMs are faster than stock (I remember seeing ThundeROM and being surprised when I finally flashed it). Some ROMs give better battery life (though admittedly this isn't one) or more options (which this one most certainly does). Not all of us who want a phone that performs at it's best just want numbers.

Honestly I think my phone performs quite a bit better - for me - with this custom ROM on it because I can control it more; since Zefie updates it with Cyanogenmod, and Cyanogenmod keeps up with Google's latest patches, I can be more sure that my data is secure than just running on stock and waiting on LG to update the phone. May even be possible to get fixes for certain vulnerabilities before Google gets around to it (like say, figuring out how to disable the web version of the Android market so that in the event that your Google account is compromised, someone can't install malware on your phone). There's more of an ability to customize the phone (theme chooser app), etc.

The phone is a bit less stable than on stock, but I see it as a tradeoff - I lose a bit of battery life and stability in order to customize the phone however I want and keep it running the latest Android OS, including the latest security fixes. If LG/Sprint didn't lock things down so much, and they could release updates on a timetable of weeks rather than months, I might consider staying or going back to stock. Until then I'm going to say - ROM your phone, and it'll perform quite a bit better.

'for all intents and purposes' :p

hrm.. if someone stole your Google account but you still had your phone (considering if they had it they wouldn't need your Google account), wouldn't simply signing out of said Google account from the phone be sufficient enough? :P

think it'd be a good idea to finally get off my lazy ass and hop on the VD train? ;)
(still rocking the v9!)

Zefie, I love this Rom I just tried TR and nrom and I would have to say this one is by far the best and fastest... keep up the good work! Keep up the good work, I'll work on that donation. Thanks again!

I'm thinking with the popularity of Android phones that "Try seeing if you can install malware to gain personal info" will be one of the first things people are going to try when they hijack a Google account for scamming purposes. Since it does happen (my roommate's Google account got hacked by a Romanian at one point), and Google doesn't pre-approve market apps, and all you need is the google account in order to install software, I see it as a security risk where your account can be compromised and malware tossed on your device before you know the account has been compromised. No evidence that anyone's put anything like that together yet, but everything is there for something like that to happen without too much extra work. I mean, if they're going to hijack random accounts anyways to use for spam/lift CC/bank details/get contact lists to spam from different accounts, why would you pass up the possibility to nab that from someone's phone? You're already breaking the law anyways and it's not like it will require that much extra effort for the possibility of a much greater reward.

google 2 step authentication, easy enough, if your device gets jacked, there are back up routes to terminate the authentication on your device, and lock out your email.

For those of you that can't wait, I built CM7 with VC drivers, after syncing with zefie's repo. You can get a copy by following me on Twitter, I will post the link there.

This does not have anything different than the 3/10 nightly except for VC drivers.

Zefie does not have to support my build at all, and when he gets his vm back up, and rebuilds, I would even suggest moving back to his version, as it is from his machine, and he can speak of it's validity.

I do however have my build on my phone, and do not have any problems that are not already pre-existing in the bug reporter.

DO NOT REPORT any issues about this build to zefie's bug tracker, as this will muddy the waters.

Simon,

Thank you for doing this, but unfortunately, the display still did not work. Perhaps there is more to it than just the display drivers, I don't know. The aosp CM7 build for Virgin mobile does work with the new hardware. Where can I find the display drivers in the rom? Perhaps I can compare and see if there are other differences.

Thanks
Steve

I had to give it a shot, and apparently Zefie was already on top of this. Like I should have doubted him. :-[

Anyways, I am not that experienced with Linux, just enough to make me dangerous. Someone else can chime in, and give you a better idea on driver location.

Not really my phone getting stolen that I'm worried about (since if I noticed it gone I've got some plans in place + have software to track it). While I'm not expecting anything imminent, what worries me is that there are people who make a living by breaking in to email accounts and using them to spam or to glean personal information; and that's combined with the fact that the Android market is only policed in a reactive sense rather than a proactive sense; and if the web-based installation method is used, you are not prompted on your phone before the app is installed. I tend to be a bit paranoid about these sort of things, and I just see that as a massive loophole. Sure, I'm positive I can get my Google account back under my control, and sure, I try to leave the amount of stuff that would really cause me issues off of the account. On my phone, that's a different story - with something hooked in there, who knows what damage could be done? Expensive phone calls, text messaging services, using my contacts list to nab information to send more people spam (or heck, even using the phone to send spammy text messages). Just something that I see as a security risk that doesn't need to be there (sure, the odds are probably against someone doing it, but the odds are also probably against someone trying to see if your door is unlocked and then stealing your stuff, but I'm sure you lock the door and possibly some of you even shell out money for a security system - same thing. Feel like I've been sold a house where the front door doesn't have a lock, and I'd like to put one on it)

Screw it, I quit.

Okay here is the deal, I quit.

Why? I'm frustrated and annoyed.
Here is a new nightly: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11516160/Op...7-03142011-NIGHTLY-thunderc-Xionia-signed.zip

You will notice you can't flash it becayse Cyanogen decided that everyone needs to use CWM 3.0 I guess, IDK.

I also trashed a perfectly fine Xionia CWMA .5 thinking this was it's fault but lo and behold it does it on .4 too! I'm guessing GNM would be the same.

So, in the interest of NOT doing more WORK (for free), I quit. This is one of the reasons I refused to become an official maintainer for Optimus is because I don't have the patience.

I don't have the patience of working with others when others are going to cause more work for me. This is a clear example, although distant.

And that is the whole thing, this has turned into work. Once a simple hobby for fun becomes what feels like a demand. The more I feel obligated to provide something to you. Sure, I don't have to, but then my rep goes down, ect ect. So here, I'll destroy my rep for you. :P

The current broken sources are on my Github, please fork them as all Cyanogen and CWMA content will be deleted by 01/01/2012.

Have fun and enjoy your Optimus S.

Update: the issue in question was a temporary issue and I have not quit. I'm just going at my own pace. :P

Yeah, do really appreciate what you've done.

The ROM as of the last build (from the 10th) is fine. Few minor issues here and there, but it's stable enough for day to day use (at least on my phone).

Wish that Cyanogen hadn't decided to lock it out like that, I realize he wants to have it act the same on all devices, but the thing is this is basically kicking porters in the balls, and he should know how that feels (I believe he got a C&D at some point because of Google wanting to pull the same asinine stuff).

Hopefully things work out, but don't blame you if you don't want to do this anymore - and really, thanks for everything you have done, you've made this great phone even better.

Also re-reading it, don't let the 'for free' imply that if you donated I would come back. I am done. I might come back if I get super bored or something but don't expect any releases from me.

Of course you are still welcome to donate to show appreciation for my past work, but this is in no way a solicitation.

All I really want is the expectation of me to provide a new version or a fix to vanish.

Trust me, I want to fix everything, I also want a magic wand and a million dollars though too :P

The main reason I quit is because of the major conflict. I can come back later perhaps when nRom, ThundeROM, lego-ROM and EVERYTHING has been updated from AMEND to EDIFY script.

Because basically if I port CWM 3.0, you lose AMEND scripting, which is the old simple script that lets you maybe update.zip's fast. And easier.

In noob speak, if I released a CWM 3.0, half the optimus ROMs wouldn't flash right, and there would be total chaos as everyone got confused.

Maybe I'll try to hack it into CWMA some day, but not today. I need a break, I haven't played my Dragon Age 2 in like 3 days!

Like I said, don't expect releases from me, just be pleasantly surprised if/when I do release something xD

Is it possible to include both scripting engines and examine the script to determine which engine to run it under?
