first-time user thoughts
I just switched over from ThundeROM 1.7. I was quite happy with ThundeROM, but I figured I'd do a backup and then see what CM7 was all about. I'm pretty impressed with what I see so far. This thread is a big unwieldy, but the search feature exists for just such threads. I couldn't get my screen to come back up during a call, but I switched on the "always use proximity sensor" setting and then found the "swype finger across sensor" fix, and all is good there. Bit bummed about no visual voice mail, but the text message notification works well, and I made a direct-dial shortcut to my own number that works as a voicemail checker. I saw the workaround (pull vvm.apk out of ThundeROM, then block the text), but I'm OK with how it works now.
I still get the "LG Logo Hang" bug when completely powering down and turning back on that I got in ThundeROM after the VC update, but I'm well versed in getting around that.
One thing that will take a bit of getting used to is the screen lock. In ThundeROM, hitting the unlock button took me directly to the PIN entrance screen. In CM7 I have to do a separate unlock action after turning on the screen to get to my PIN entrance screen. I figured out that I can set the menu to unlock the screen and that button also turns on the screen, but I'm used to the power button doing that. No big deal, just a difference.
There are a few apps that I purchased (MLB At Bat 2011 is the primary one) that doesn't show up in the Market as an option to redownload, but I'm thinking maybe it isn't available for Android 2.3. I'll investigate further.
Other than these minor things, this is awesome. Everything is so quick, and it's awesome knowing I'm running the latest and greatest. Hopefully I can do my small part of helping to test and whatever else is needed to continue this effort.
Basically, this is a long-winded way of saying THANK YOU!!!!
