Do you Nexus owners have Galaxy S3 envy?

The nexus rogers sells is unlocked. They don't all know this... I'm loving the nexus, and the lack of buttons is nicer as is the easy root if desired. Wishing I had an SD card slot though... And the camera I hear is nice.

No envy at all. Saw the s3, played around with it. Gf also played with it. She uses s2. We both were not impressed

Nah, no SIII envy here. My Nexus has not given me any reason to have envy towards another device...especially one with a skin on it (TouchWiz).

The better camera, SD card slot, bigger screen, and thinner design make the SIII a clear winner in my book. However, I'd take the S3 over the Nexus if it had NONE of those features. Why?

The processor. The Snapdragon S4 with its 28nm process and integrated LTE is a huge winner in my book. The enormous battery gains the S3 enjoys over the Nexus is too much to pass up. Couple that with the superior radio performance of the S3 in all areas (especially WiFi) versus the Nexus and there's no way I'd stay with my Nexus. The only reason I'd ever keep my Nexus over the S3 would be if the S3 were locked down, but since Samsung is awesome and doesn't lock its phones, I can enjoy all of the benefits of the S3 without having to necessarily give up stock Android.

Sure, I loathe Android skins and have written many rants over the past few years about how bad skins are, but touchwiz nature ux is among the least intrusive, in some ways is (kinda) handsome looking, and won't be on there long anyway once CM9 comes to the phone. I'm hoping for full-fledged CM9 support within 2 months of the release of the phone on Verizon (nightlies for the US version, with no major bugs such as radio or kernel issues).

We'll see if CM9 comes to fruition that soon, but even if not I can deal with Touchwiz. The problem with my Nexus (I'm on my 4th replacement) is the utterly terrible call reception and microphone performance during voice calls. Callers constantly complain that my voice sounds muffled or that it cuts out, a problem I did not have on my Thunderbolt, nor my Droid X or OG Droid.

Suffice it to say, the hardware advantages of the S3 are enormous, enough so that there's many clear reasons why I will be upgrading to the S3 and leaving my very beloved Galaxy Nexus behind. I believe the next generation of Nexus hardware will yield much better performance than the Galaxy Nexus, and I'll proudly return to being a Nexus owner if that is the case. For now, I trust Samsung to get it right with the S3.

I agree, with the hardware upgrades, especially the LTE/processors and SD support, I'm a little jealous...I can't wait till the next Nexus has them as well.
It's all about the software, and I'll take stock every time over a OEM's UI...

The GSIII has obviously better hardware.
Don't forget that powerfull CPU/GPU means better energy efficiency. It's clearly better than the GN, and it's usefull.
What makes me hesitate is that the home/back/recent apps buttons on the GNex are really perfect for me and I don't want to try anything else !
Also the fact that the GNex is in fact cheap, and will be the first to get JB are not for the SGSIII.
Finally, What I need is the Nexus Next !

You mention wifi specs being better on the GS3...Unless they changed from the "N" spec when we were not looking the speed should be dependent on the network not the radio. I'll put my GN on my network against 98% of US. (See screenshot) 20+Mb down 20+Mb up.

As far as the cpu again I'll put my GN against the S3. If you can tell a diference in real world use...thats amazing. I can scroll in any forum(Full version) from top to the bottom and never have a lag or see a checkerboard. It could be as fast but not faster. There is no lag to the GN anywhere.

I'm sorry for your bad luck , if I was on my 4th one, I wouldn't be using it at all...in fact I would quit after the 2nd. I just have not seen any of your problems with calls or networks. Are you stock?

I don't know what good LTE does, we are all either being throttled at 3GB on our grandfathered unlimited plans or are paying for Data. My Hspa+ speeds are faster then anything I need it for. I D/L the occasional podcast in a minute. Streaming requires only 300Kb or so.

- Speed / Range / etc have EVERYTHING to do with the quality of the radio in a device. The GNEX has a sub-par WIFI radio in it. In fact as far as range is concerned, most Android devices just don't have it really.

- I saw checkerboard more than a few times on my GNEX. It probably depends on how intensive the site layout is.

- LTE is awesome by the way. I got the chance to try it out with a HTC One X for about a month. You should check your sources, but for AT&T, Grandfathered 3G data is throttled at 3GB and for LTE its throttled at 5GB. Make sure your facts are right. LTE just makes everything completely fluid. The experience feels totally different when everything is instant, not just downloads.

If its a sub par radio , how do you explain Wifi speeds in excess if 30Mb up/down? I get 20Mbs 30' and through walls. from my router.

If your seeing checkerboards and I never do. Its not the radio in the phone or the CPU, its your network.

What phone has better radio...not the iPhone I have 2 i4's . Its faster then them on Wifi, and of course its faster on 3G due to its Hspa+.

It equals the i4S . Each Wifi test I compared was too close to call.

When you say all Android radios have bad radio's...I have a GS2 that's very fast as well.

We are talking about the same phone right? The Google galaxy nexus? If you have a different version maybe that explains our drastically different experiences.
.

I didn't know that LTE doesn't throttle till 5GB, I'll test that out. If your always on 3G networks how does that work?

Is it possible

Not at all.

Having chased PDA's from the Palm III, and smartphones from the Treo 300, HTC helped me break the cycle after owning the Evo3d for not even one year.

I bought the GNex from El Goog in April for about $442.00 w/tax and shipping. I spend $53.xx every month with T-Mobile, down from $115 with Sprint.

I now have a large, beautiful display, improved battery life, a lighter phone, more appealing form factor, AND vanilla ICS. I had no clue how much Sense jacked up the android experience.

Additionally, the Evo3d STILL doesn't have ICS (unless rooted), and even the One series/SIII, will not get JB in the next two weeks...and I will.

I understand the hesitation to buy a phone that isn't the latest and greatest, it's hard for us techie nerd types to not buy on specs...but I don't think you'd regret the GNex purchase over a carrier restricted experience. At least I don't.

I will run this GNex into the ground, then buy the next phone from Google, no question.

The Newest Android OS jellybean will be pushed out on nexus s and nexus prime. I used S2 and had waited long for ics after it had been pushed out, it looks like a gingerbread device :/

Envy? Lol. I think all the GS3 owners are soon to have jelly bean envy. Good luck waiting months on updates. Only to be riddled with an overlay that cripples the stock experience. I'll be sticking with my Nexus and it's always up-to-date OS.

Jelly bean just took the wind right from the GS3's sails.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

Are all GN phones unlocked? I'm in Canada and will be going through Rogers. Is going that route hold any negatives?

Yes. The GSM is unlocked regardless where you buy it from. And you can flash the Google stock image to make it identical to the Play Store version
