Does it bother you that N5 doesn't have SD card slot?

I have one of these ...

... that gizmo fits perfectly with my Ringke Fusion case. Root and StickMount and all my big media files sit on the SD card when needed.

HOWEVER, with the 32GB Nexus 5 I have not yet needed the SC card. So far everything is fitting nicely in internal memory.

Maybe i'll just toss this out there as food for thought........If it had the SD slot, this wouldn't even be a discussion.

Contrary to popular belief, Google is not against memory cards, but it limits them to the Chromebook line (e.g. Acer C7, Samsung Chromebook, Chromebook Pixel) and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition smartphone. So, if you need a phone that supports memory cards, you have to get an S4, which is not a Nexus phone, but it runs stock Android.

If you must have a Nexus 5, you should get the 32 GB model. Unfortunately, you will need to get used to transferring and deleting files on your phone.

Thanks this type of shameless advertisement I just spend hundred on a google S4 only to find myself searching through this board for answers. The SD card is disabled from writing access since the 4.3 days unless rooted. And no, I don't want to root it which is why I bought a Google to begin with.

Personally I prefer S4 over N5 every single day simply for its replaceable battery. Every minute a mobile phone sits with charger (wire or wireless) is a minute it is not mobile and stationed. However it lasts through out day and only stationed during the night this won't be much a big deal, but it means your use habit is confined by the battery. Having a bigger battery or a couple spare ones nearby will set you free. Alternatively, get two N5 if money is not an objective.

I think I get Google's desire of moving every phone's storage to cloud so to profit from it, but why battery? The only way I can see it is that the thinness cool factor, but leaving it stationed or oppressing the impulse to use the phone as frequent while worrying about the battery may run not when an emergency call is needed, that's is not very cool. Such a simple math, but amazed me most people pretend we're in a era of battery technology from 2030's.

My LG (not Samsung mind you) optimus g pro's 64GB Sandisk Extreme works just fine. Its too bad some have been mislead into believing Sammy is the only option.

On the Play store (website), Google has this disclaimer: "MicroSD card only compatible with third party applications. Not compatible with Google services." Unfortunately, Google doesn't list what those third party applications are. It is also unfortunate that write access was disabled in Android 4.3. The S4 probably would have met your needs better when it was launched with Android 4.2.2. Has you talked to Samsung for a possible fix?

Alternatively, you can also return the S4 within 15 calendar days for any reason. Also, if you purchased it from November 26, 2013 to December 25, 2013, you are eligible to return it by January 13, 2014. (Here is the customer support page describing the return policy.)

On the bright side, the S4's replaceable battery is a positive feature. You already mentioned that you preferred the S4 over the Nexus 5 just on the battery alone. Your only other smartphone choice from the Google Play store would be the HTC One Google Play edition, but that doesn't have a replaceable battery either.

I still have 9.47GB left from my 2012 Nexus 7 that only has 16GB total. I have a 32GB Nexus 5 with 26.7GB free and I don't think I will ever need a Meenova SD card adapter.

I already filled about 7 gigs. At this rate I'd be out of space in a week. Luckily my Meenova & card came but I'm worried I'll fill that up really soon too. I can still get more though.

Its going to be over 100 MB's. I have 18.7 GB left on mine. 1 HD movie, 1300 songs no huge apps.

Google Music reminds me that I shouldn't be bothered about SD cards. I have about 62 gigs of music (roughly 17k songs) uploaded. Granted, it took me a week (ONE FULL WEEK) to upload everything, but its worth it. I have my entire library available on demand. I can download tracks offline as well. Best part, that portion of Google Music is free!

I don't quite follow. What do you mean its the reason your getting out? You don't have to use the option to use a sdcard.

s4 is only 16 gigs. i've been staying on 4.2 b/c 4.3 and 4.4 break writing to SD cards, which is what my camera/video camera are set to do right now. If this is the case, I'd rather get a phone with larger internal memory and just save to that, instead of continuously not updating, which basically defeats the point of having a nexus/google edition phone.

dude, GTA Vice City is already 1.39GB in size. San Andreas is huge compared to vice city.

My GS3 still sent photos to my SDcard and it is on 4.3.
