Re: Drew's CM7 builds (stable: 08/09/2011 | experimental: 08/08/2

Thank you for the quick reply.

Unless there's some built-in / 'default' overclocking settings, no I have not overclocked this device.

I haven't even installed any apps to overclock like SetCPU - I assume that's what you folks use to OC?

It's funny, I'm used to troubleshooting reboots with haretconsole, no clue how to do it here :p.

I will verify when I'm home if the device is indeed being overclocked - if it is being OC'd, it wasn't anything I chose to enable...

This may answer your question. About halfway down: http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...p-general-roms-rooting-related-questions.html

I assume you mean the part about going between FroYo and GB...?

Or this?

Be sure to clear all data/system/dalvik/etc... and anything else that must be cleared according to instructions by the developer as well. Every step is important. In the end it is up to you to make sure you follow the processes exactly because when it boils down to it, you are responsible for your phone.

I did clear everything when I installed this ROM (as I already stated), and I also have not re-used any apps or restored/reused ANYTHING from the stock ROM.

If need be, I will rewipe, reflash, and try wifi hotspot without doing anything else first...? There hasn't been much done to this phone, I installed this ROM and my gf installed a few apps. All from the Market, again nothing re-used.

Other than this wifi hotspot problem, the ROM seems to work great. Might be good to note, I did try wifi hotspot on the stock ROM and while it didn't produce a reboot, it also did not work... Is this Sprint's doing somehow...? Is this a service that is an additional cost that will autoreboot phones if you're not paying for it? Kinda at a loss here, would like some help. I read that FAQ before, and nothing struck me even remotely about wifi hotspot...

It won't work on the stock ROM unless you have something before VD IIRC(may have been VC). The update broke it (on purpose) but simply rooting allows us to use it.
You almost made it to what I was referring to: http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...ms-rooting-related-questions.html#post1184249 I was referring to halfway down the thread, not the first post. ;) I could have been more specific, but glad you read the first part! :D

Some file that properly clears the system? Did I miss this from the first post of this thread...?

Thanks, I'll try that when I get home. I assume I can do a NANDroid backup, clear every partition, flash that file that "properly" clears the system (is this redundant?), then reflash CM7, gapps, NANDroid restore data, and be good-to-go?

I seriously feel like I missed some steps if this is required :p.

Don't use a nandroid with this. You will need to flash fresh, just read the steps I listed in that post. :)
Eh, it's not normally listed in steps to install a ROM. Whenever anyone runs across issues, it seems to fix them. And I've always used it and NEVER had any weird issues that anyone describes... coincidence? I doubt it.

So you suggest to use it,

To go back and forth, use nandroid backups, but between backups make sure to flash the system debug file. Assuming you have already used the backup option in the recovery menu, the process would go like this: boot into recovery, clear data, dalvik, etc then flash system debug. Then restore nandroid from restore menu.

but not here...? Why?

I do need to backup what my gf has installed, she'll flip if she has to go thru and setup everything again :p. So how do you recommend backing up / resotring?

Thanks for your help/fast responses!

Check out "Titanium Backup." It's free in the market, under the backup setting there is a batch that tells it to back up all apps and data. When you wipe and open your phone up again, just re-install TB and tell it to restore everything.

Yea, I actually paid for TB on my phone because I was using it so much... I just figured since this is a native Android device, backing up with recovery was more complete / quicker.

I'll definitely give that a shot if backing up thru recovery is not possible. Thanks!

Re: Drew's CM7 builds (stable: 08/09/2011 | experimental: 08/08/2

First of all, props on the build. Had this on a brand new Optimus S within 12 hours - had my wife sold on the phone a few hours later. Thank you - she really was getting scared about smartphones due to the Zio that she currently has (only a few days more...:))

It also took a few attempts but I found out the chgown 1000:1010 had to be done when I replaced wpa_supplicant.conf or else it the wifi would crash after rebooting. Netflix 1.2.2 works without a green bar and everything else that I need (which isn't much) the phone does and asks for more. For being a "starter" smartphone it does all that I need right now.

I have another acquaintance that may be interested in this - however, it would be on an Optimus C. So my question is has anyone tested this yet? I have read already that the latest ver for Xionia was good for that phone, so getting the stock backed up is not a problem. My larger concern is somehow bricking the phone after flashing this onto the phone.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

Just installed STABLE-002, 08/09/2011. I used Xionia CWMA v1.2518.6.

I searched, and didn't see anything - I turned on wifi hotspot and the phone rebooted!?! I didn't get any FC errors... went to enable "Portable Hotspot", and it seemed to just hang there thinking... and then the LG logo!

Perhaps it's a kernel issue. gf just got the phone yesterday, and I immediately rooted it following that gingerbreak thread, worked great. Then did custom recovery with that Xionia thread. Backed up stock ROM stuffs, then formatted /boot, /system, /data and /cache. Installed STABLE-002 and the associated gapps package.

The build seems to be workin really well, and I appreciate all the hard work that's been done to bring CM to this device - kudos!

I can get logs or whatever you want to debug this issue. I work with another project (XDAndroid) so I am pretty proficient at troubleshooting problems :p. Never used a native Android device before tho...
I use the WiFi hot spot with no problems.
I turn it on by going to settings -> wireless -> tethering-portable wifi hot spot -> Put check mark in box for hot spot.

sent from my CM7 gingerbread Optimus S

Always happy to help, hit that thanks button if I did!

I don't think you understand. Using nandroid backs up the whole system inclduing the error.

Titanium backup backs up apps and any save files. Only use TB for apps...

Sounds good. I will flash that system "fix" later today, hopefully it is better. Thanks.

You must not do a nandroid. You will be removing then reapplying the same issue....

So... is the only option TB? I would prefer to backup via recovery. At least the data partition...

Recovery will not backup like that. It's all or nothing. Your only option is to use some sort of app like TB to back up your apps and the data associated with them. Also remember that you should not restore system data from TB if you have switched ROMs.

I hope someone will correct me here if wrong - new to Android but not to hardware/software.

It's my understanding that wifi hotspot is a separate cost. Nothing I have read has led me to believe there is a way around it. With that in mind.... I use the Optimus S through a Sprint MVNO and they don't have the plans set up just yet. So I tried turning on the hotspot with knowing this and no problem. So while not exactly the same case I suspect it's software related and not hardware. (Tried using stable version)

You said you can wipe the phone, right? Then why not get back to stock and start over?

Option 1:
If you made a Nandroid backup of stock before starting, have you tried this yet?

Option 2:
I saw a download that will let you restore the Optimus S to factory VD baseband:

[HOW TO] Return to 100% Stock ROM and Recovery! - PPCGeeks

IMPORTANT NOTE: I have not personally tried this yet so do at your own risk.

If you really need your apps from the CM build then backup by TB and then do this. But like with a PC I would think it's normally better to start from scratch when you are having problems.

Re: Drew's CM7 builds (stable: 08/09/2011 | experimental: 08/08/2

Give "My Backup Root" a try to backup your apps, contacts, phone log, sms, mms, bookmarks, etc.

Re: Drew's CM7 builds (stable: 08/09/2011 | experimental: 08/08/2

noob question's...

1~is it normal for wifi hotspot to drop when using phone?

2~is there any reason that i shouldnt try to update prl/profile... (my hotspot signal speed has dropped alot the past two weeks, and wanting to try to increase it...)

Answer to number one is, anything using your data connection will likely drop. Try sending a text while talking on the phone. Doesn't work (unless connected to wifi).
Will be adding the answer to number 2 of my FAQ with the process tonight.

Re: Drew's CM7 builds (stable: 08/09/2011 | experimental: 08/08/2

has anyone had this problem with the stable build? (CyanogenMod-7.1.0.2) :

when i play music in cubed (aka ?) or the stock player, and i have headphones plugged in, with my screen turned off, the audio messes up and starts sounding glitchy. it only goes back to normal when the screen is turned backed on, regardless if its locked or unlocked.
