The claim is that they are concerned about the network stability. Google did a million dollar study to show that this is total and complete BS. There is no proof, for example, that rom users jeopardize network stability, and those roms obviously don't go through the "rigorous" (cough joke) testing that VZW puts official updates through. VZW would prefer that you never find out about that study. The real answer, of course, is politics. VZW likes to maintain "control". This, of course, is coming to an end. Big changes in the industry are coming but it won't happen overnight. I've warned you all to get used to buying unsubsidized phones....you'll see why soon enough. Watch T-Mobile closely over the next few months.![]()
I think you're right. T-Mobile is going to be the carrier that keeps pressure on AT&T and Verizon by ditching subsidies and contracts. Google will keep pressure up from the device side. It's only a matter of time before AT&T and VZW start to feel it. I think the critical time will be when all three start to deploy LTE on AWS spectrum and VoLTE becomes prevalent. At that time we'll start to see more interoperability of devices and hopefully more competition.

Oh, oh, oh, I'm totally reading between the lines, and then between those lines, to start the rumor that Google is buying T-Moble USA....![]()
All joking aside, Google and T-Mobile have a long relationship. If I'm not mistaken, T-Mobile was the first to release a Android Phone. So, it would be fitting if Google wanted to shake up the wireless industry (which we know they want to do) with a already established player, why not go with T-Mobile.
If they start deploying on AWS frequencies, will they all work on each other's bands?
Right now the way it works is you either pay full retail price at VZW, or, you can buy it from someone else and activate it on your account. In a few years (at least on VZW....there was just an article on it this morning), there will only be unsubsidized phones. T-Mobile is planning on doing it this year, and they're suggesting that you may be able to spread out the cost. How others will ultimately do it is unknown. They're all watching T-Mobile to see how successful they'll be before they make any decisions to go that route.
A note on grandfathered unlimited....don't get too used to it. VZW has a stated goal of nuking it by the end of next year and forcing everyone into one of their "awesome" new plans.
Can't build my own laptop. Else I would.
More cheerful good news. 98.72.20 for bionic was killed earlier. Now we wait for 21 to start testing and reset the clock to 4 weeks when that happens. YEY

Any chance the razr build was rejected last minute, and that's why the soak rest hasn't happened yet?
