Easy Root for Bionic Stock 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean)

^^^ I'm pretty sure you're not on JB then.

I still can't seem to get this to work. I'm hanging at "daemon started successfully", because when I choose XT875 it gives me the INVALIDARG, busyhost error other people are getting. I installed the extension for VirtualBox and enabled the USB 2.0 thing.
I'm Windows 8, 64-bit. It's the Surface Pro, if that makes a difference (only one USB port, 3.0)

Dallmeyer you got access to another computer? Reading all the virtualbox forums looks like usb 3.0 is not supported. I tried this for a couple hours on my Windows 8 x64 Thinkpad Twist (2 usb 3.0 ports) and then came across the information. Went to a Windows 7 x64 desktop and did it on first try.

Trying to root Bionic 4.1.2 and get a message in VM that reads "Your phone must be connected by WI-FI to the same network subnet that this server is connected to. You will have problems connecting to the SMB file share if both devices are not connected to the same network." I have the phone on my WI-FI system. What am I doing wrong?

I ran the program, and everything seemed to work, the VM told me it was successful. But then I check my phone, and I don't have root.

Others in the thread have had the problem, and resolved it by simply running it an extra few times. I've now run it over 10 times, to not avail.

The network settings are fine (pings work in both directions, and the VM confirms correct connection over WIFI), the USB connection looks good (recognized by VM), the installation looks like it goes through normally, I hit the volume up button as soon as it tells me to (I've tried volume down and power buttons as well, as well as various combinations of these). Then, the VM tells me to let it reboot the phone, the phone reboots, but Superuser tells me that "The Superuser binary (su) must be updated. Please choose an installation method..." Then, I hit install, and it says "There was an error installing Superuser. Please send a log of the error to the developer." (but it doesn't actually generate a log so idk what's up with that either).

I've tried reinstalling the VM, I've redownloaded .ova file, and I've tried multiple USB ports on my computer. I'm at a loss for what else to do. Any ideas?

same here...

EDIT: Got it working. Uninstalled the old version of Super User that I had and during the reboot I pressed the volume down buttom IMMEDIATELY as the text appeared. Not sure which of them made it work, but its working now. Upon the last step where it says "Exploit Compete. Press enter to reboot and exit," my phone never rebooted during that exit period. I left it up and after granting superuser permissions the phone started running extremely slow. SD card was stuck at "Checking for errors," then it randomly rebooted and is now working as intended.

There's definitely a problem after rooting. Seems like the SD card got screwed up somehow. Phone runs fine but I can't access anything involving the SD card, even things like storage setting. Doing this causes a force close or the entire phone to just freeze. I have had to pull the battery several times because of this. Anyone have a fix?

Thank you for this wonderful easy root. One small problem - it does not seem to work with USB 3.0. I initially tried this on my laptop with only usb 3.0 and it got stuck where the VM connects to the device via USB. I then re-ran it on another computer using USB 2.0 and it worked prefectly. I don;t know if that would beeasy to fix in the code or not, but a tip for anyone having trouble connecting the device via USB - TRY USB 2.0!!! Thank you again.

once im told to connect phone, goto apps/files app/remote storage/add storage...i get a promt to turn wifi on, but i dont get anything to type in (ie. IP addy, doman, share, guest, etc) all i get is "add network/network SSID name" where can i enter the ip addy and all the other fields? thanks

question
got my xt875 jb4.1.2 flashed to pageplus
they told me rootin might lose flash
will doin this lose my flash
is there any prophalactic steps i can take to prevent that

hi marty

im having trouble locating the remote storage location on my files( of my samsung s3) is there any way you can direct me where to find it?

Thanks very much for this!!! I did a FDR on my Bionic and lost root / had partial root. Your appliance was very easy to run and follow the directions. I now have root again. It took longer to download the two files than it did to root the phone. Thanks again!!

This is my first time posting and rooting a phone so please bare with me

I get through the root program just fine, and when I to superuser on my phone and try to install it [it says superuser binary (su) must be updated] , it gives me an error message

Is there something I did wrong?

Worked like a charm. Verified root access. Once I switch from my other phone back to my newly rooted Bionic I can verify that android tether will work with no problems. This process is definitely the easy root for the Bionic on Jelly bean. Thank you very much.

One question. If I want to unroot my bionic would I do it with the vm virtual box also or is there another recommended procedure??

Sent from my Nexus 7 using AC Forums mobile app

Had the same problem and spent 18 hours learning how NOT to root... started over on a different computer (Windows 7) and worked 1st time. Took 10 minutes tops! There is an issue with connecting the device with VB, probably a driver issue. Side note, the first computer only had USB 3.0, the computer that worked had USB 2.0.

I use supersu and there is an unroot in there, not sure if superuser has an unroot in it.

Does not play well with USB 3.0

hey so i get everything to work just fine but when i get to these parts.

"Click a button on your phone right now" i do that and sometimes it wont reboot my phone but..
Sometimes ill get passed that and get to the very end where it says
"Hit enter to reboot and exit" and it wont reboot but instead my cell will constantly vibrate.
Even when i did what some people said and reboot my phone myself to stop the vibration and use root checker
it tells me my phone has no root but i have the new superuser with the "#" instead of the droid face

Idk whats wrong but can i please get help!!
