[EI22][GINGERBREAD] Gingerbread " Bug Thread "

In the Camera Settings, do you see a 1/2, 2/2 and arrows to scroll up and down? Shutter Sound, Reset, and Firmare Check should be on 2/2

Yes, but all three Shutter Sound choices I see make noise. There's no silent shutter sound in the camera app anymore, as far as I can tell. I'm pretty sure that in Froyo my camera didn't make noise, so they must have removed the silent shutter option in Gingerbread.

You are correct. On Froyo, there were 4 options. Shutter 1-3 and off. Not sure why they would have taken that out on Gingerbread.

From what I've read in a few web forums, some countries have laws that require cameras to make a sound when a picture is taken, in which case Samsung probably did this to comply with those laws. I don't think the US has such a law (yet anyway), so you'd think a US-only phone like the Epic could still have a silent shutter sound. *shrug* I don't really like it, but it's not horrible and I can live with it. It's just weird -- IIRC Eclair let us have a silent shutter and the choice of geotagging our pics, Froyo took away the geotagging option but left the silent shutter, and now Gingerbread flips it bringing back the geotagging option but taking away the silent shutter. To me, both OS updates were fixing something that wasn't broken with the camera, but what can you do?

On a different topic, does anyone else with multiple Google accounts who has Market notifications turned on see multiple notifications of available updates (1 per Google account)? I know Froyo didn't do this. Is there any way to get notifications once, and not multiple times? No matter how many Google accounts I connect, I only have 1 phone and apps only need to be updated once, not once per Google account. This is weird behavior to me, and I'd like to know if it can be fixed. Thanks.

I can't say that this is a GB (OS) bug but I was hoping it would get fixed in this update. I have found it impossible to set my gmail calendar as the default. You can set it in Settings but when you exit & return it's back to the phone calendar. Not only that but it resets the notification ring tone to "silent", which caused me untold difficulties until I figured this out. This started with Froyo update (I think). Does anyone else rely on their Epic for "memory function"? I can't remember meetings (or practically anything) without a prompt from E4G!

Don't really know if this is a bug with gingerbread but for the 1st time since getting a replacement phone last march, my phone randomly shut itself down while just lying on my desk. Phone had more than 80% of battery left. This has only happened once so far but I guess it's worth mentioning.

Since doing the update, Ive had my phone randomly power off three times. Had it on charge twice over separate nights and woke up and phone was off. It had been off most of the night because I received text messages from 6 hours prior. The other time was charging with car charger in my car, went to grab my phone and it was off. Never had any problem before the upgrade. Will have to do more checking, but seems to be shutting off when plugged in and fully charged. Mentioned this to my wife and she mentioned hers shut off once on her overnight. Never had this problem with froyo. This just started when I did the manual update on both our phones. Dont think its a battery or phone problem as I never had an issue before update, and the wife has the same problem.

Question.. Do you have either of the devices rooted?

In addition you will probably end up doing a factory reset from the sounds of it to attempt to clear up this problem...

You could try removing your battery for a minute and then replacing it and see if it helps any.

Nope, neither rooted. Came from stock froyo. Ive pulled the batteries on both several times. Trying to avoid the factory reset but looks as though I may have to go that way, just strange that two different phones did the same thing. I did do alittle messing around before work in my car in parking lot.. When the phone was fully charged, I unplug the charger from the phone and the phone shut off. Restarted it and hooked it back to charger. Removed charger from phone again and it shut off. I ran out off time and had to get into work. I may try the factory reset.

As someone who uses the GPS feature almost on a daily basis, I really do hope that Samsung/Sprint push a fix for this (though not holding my breath) for now have had to go to manual entry on runkeepers website and use a watch as a stopwatch for times.

Though, I have never had a real good reason to root, the fact that there is a fix that someone else has put out for root users, I may finally decide to jump into that realm.

Mine is working great so far but my wife's makes a high pitched beep almost every time she moves it (like it has to do with the accelerometer). Hers is stock, not rooted... Haven't tried wiping data yet, any ideas?

Upon closer investigation, it appears to be feedback from the microphone, still no idea how to fix it.

If you root GB and remove stock apps, some of them will show up at the bottom of My Apps as "Not Installed".

Media Hub, NASCAR, Football and TeleNav are there on mine. I tried installing Media Hub, it won't launch and quits with an FC twice. Then I uninstalled it but it's still there in My Apps. Sprint must really want those to stay on the phone.

Removing updates on Market and letting it re-update cleared up My Apps not showing installed apps.

The Clear Data, Clear Cache and Clear Defaults buttons for Market are always greyed out.

Hello everyone I haven't posted before since everything is usaually already addressed, but I'm having an few problems since the GB update. I have a stock Epic 4G and I sync using bluetooth Ford Sync.

1. Since the update my phone rings via bluetooth it keeps ringing in the car after I answer and I cannot talk through the bluetooth. When I dial out it works fine.

2. My phone will play random music like at the movies or at work. I am using win amp and i normally only use it when connect to bluetooth.

3. Screen timeout defaults to 0. I have to set it back to one min several times a day since the update.

Thanks in advance any advice would be helpful.

Before GB, I could shutdown or reset my phone by pressing VolUp-Power-Camera. Now that doesn't seem to work at all. Anyone know if there's another method to reset a frozen phone besides a battery pull? Or is this working for others?

Removed in Gingerbread...

Since updating I am noticing my battery life is draining fast, similar to froyo with the signal problem. Anyone run into this or have a solution?

My phone is also draining fast. I just did a full wipe and reload of my stuff in hopes that I will see the battery life improvement many have stated. It is still too early to tell if it helped or not.

Battery life seems about the same to me. The problem I am having is with tap to focus in the camera, there is none! Anyone else have this problem?

I have noticed that my auto-rotate does not change on the home screen, but does if i open a app. Also it seems when i put in "sound vibration" from pull down menu it has been putting phone in airplane mode. I seem to be draining the battery alot faster since the update.

*********** 3G data not working after update **********

My 3G data is not working after the update. I used the manual update method without a hitch and (thus) have a stock system. My first boot after the update everything worked great until I was forced to power down (went into no cell-phone zone). Everything had worked for about 24 hours. Now since then I have been unable to get any data over 3G. If I turn on 4G, I get data (assuming coverage), and WiFi works w/o problems all the time.

I guess my next step is a factory restore.... but I'm trying to avoid that. I've been searching through the posts and haven't seen anyone else with this issue.
