isn't BENNNN supposed to be, if i'm not mistaken, a financial analyst of some sort for VZW?

so...would he actually be prone to know something in regards to
1) hardware change (as someone pointed out--the entire phone would need to pass FCC again if hardware were changed)
2) addition of Netflix
3) addition of a new OS (gingerbread)

? reasonably yes, but anyone have experience with Financial Analysts to say that he would be more involved in this information than just someone who works as a janitor for VZW and coming on these forums claiming "i work for VZW, on a corporate floor (cleaning the waste baskets, bwahahaha) --listen to what i know"

I'm a smartphone n00b but wouldn't Netflix drain the battery superfast if your watching a movie on your phone?

Very much so. Same with Hulu Plus eventually.

Video is going to be the main reasoning behind a lot of the new data caps and tiered pricing.

Late to the game here as I just now caught up on this thread...

Bennnnn thanked the post that said Best Buy would get the phone on the 9th and also mentioned that those that pre-ordered would get the phone early. My vote is that this is the "second" surprise - Best Buy peeps getting the phone a day earlier

As for the first spec bump, it's impossible to just duct tape a new dual core proc in there real quick as it takes months and months to redesign a new board. Also, there wouldn't be enough time to get more RAM, larger flash memory, or an HDMI jack onto the board for the same reason

Also, it takes HTC an average of 6th months to get their Sense layer into a new OS so I don't think it could be Gingerbread either.

My vote is for a slightly larger 1600 mAh battery with the same form factor and a firmware update

Yep, and it will turn off a lot of mobile netflix subscribers before it even comes to fruition. It's just GREED on the part of VZW. Once a tower is up and running, the maintenance is the same if it is rarely used, or if it is passing 10Tb of data an hour. The servers should be able to handle a heavier load, and can only process a finite amount of data regardless so if anything, data may get slowed down under a heavy load. VZW solution? We'll charge EVERYONE on a tiered rate to maximize profit and slow down the heavy users, instead of *we'll charge the heaviest users on a tiered rate after a warning for what we consider extreme usage so all of our customers can enjoy the verizon experience, and attract new customers*

I guess I'll stick to watching movies on a TV! I'd hate to pay high usage fees if I don't have to.

I found out that the "two" are going to be in the new version of HTCSense (2.5)installed on the Thunderbolt ...

It will include:
Streaming Mobile Movies with HTC Watch
The HTC Flyer tablet premieres HTC Watch, HTC?s new video download service. The HTC Watch service enables low-cost on-demand progressive downloading of hundreds of High-Definition movies from major studios. The intuitive, natural design of the HTC Watch service makes it easy to find the latest movie and video content, while advanced technology on the back-end enables instant playback over the HTC Thunderbolt?s high-speed wireless connection.

Mobile Cloud Gaming with OnLive
HTC takes mobile gaming to an entirely new level by being the first mobile device in the world to integrate OnLive Inc.?s revolutionary cloud-based gaming service. OnLive is leading in the home gaming market by letting people play top video games on their televisions and computers without the need to buy expensive gaming hardware or software. When integrated fully, the OnLive service will enable customers to pipe the OnLive service through the HTC Thunderbolt?s broadband wireless to their television sets, or let them play directly on the phone. When integrated on the HTC Thunderbolt, people can play a variety of games, including hits like Assassin?s Creed Brotherhood?, NBA 2K11 and Lego Harry Potter?.

TAAADAAA!!

Why isn't this post getting some love? I think this sounds logical and while it may not be a cupholder (:'( I would be pretty happy with it!

Maybe 'cause the thread now has 50 pages of posts and I, for one, didn't see this post. I blinked and missed like 30 pages. ;) That said, the post does seem very logical.

i believe HTC has come out and said that the desire HD and some of those other phones were getting Gingerbread very soon so i think this is still a possibility

around Q2 but before June (Q2 starts in April)
They refer to it as "Gingerbread Sense update"

not true the more people and users on that tower eats up bandwith which slows things down so they continue to update/evaluate and add backhaul to the towers so they can handle increased load....

Nah, I'd say next to impossible. VZW and Bestbuy says the Thunderbolt was an exclusive to VZW. And the joke has been that the Thunderbolt is a rebranding of several other phones(evo ect). Other phones on other networks are bits and pieces of the Thunderbolt with different radios. So it would seep pointless to have all those phones and have a multipurpose Thunderbolt

Not really, Verizon's branded world phones have this. They are just locked to not work on GSM in the US.

And the new AT&T devices are going to be LTE...

Yea, I'm with NCX. It's just a wee bit too early to have Gingerbread ready. We'll still get it soon though :D

I'm holding ground with: 1 - A 1600 mAh battery with a firmware upgrade, and 2 - Best Buy gets it a day earlier since Verizon let them take the blunt of the bad PR for the botched Feb 14 pre-order/release fiasco
