We'll I'm stuck....stuck with Sprints contract and stuck with the Epic. The EVO's hardware is inferior, but the support is better. I suppose HTC does win. I had hope after seeing the hummingbird being faster than even the iPhone 4 (and I need that power). But if that power is crippled, there's no point in having that power. Idk how, but I need to find a way to leave Sprint and move onto T-Mobile. By the time I can do that, T-Mobile's pricing will be equal to or better than Sprint's (the only reason I am still with Sprint is their pricing), and either HTC or another comapny will have a processor as strong as or stronger than Hummingbird. If I could jump on a Nexus S or G2 I would in a heartbeat........ :-(.............. I've gotta get over my impatience and wanting the newest thing.

I just came to sprint from t-mobile. I had the absolute worst service from t-mobile. They have to have the worst network....

Yes you need to enjoy what you have.. I'm sure soon enough we will have the official Froyo for Epic and all will be happy. As far as staying on top of the game with having the best, that is a tough deal when you have contracts holding on to you.

Tomorrow there will be better and the week after that, things are moving a very fast pace right now and will not slow down anytime soon especially with duel core processors banging on the door and now Gingerbread and talks of Honeycomb. Sure having the best hardware is a plus but you also need to have software that can take full advantage of the hardware you have and that my friend takes time no matter what device or carrier you go with.

i'm still trying to figure out why everyone is so ANGRY! seriously, what more can 2.2 do that is so serious that so many of you are actually mad about this? some of you act as if your epic is unusable without froyo. honestly, if you all are catching feelings over a phone then you need to find some hobbies or something.

i understand being annoyed at broken promises and missed dates, but c'mon...the phone still works and is better than many out there.

My feelings exactly... While froyo has some features I have been waiting for, it isn't enough to keep me from enjoying my Epic.

well its keeping me from enjoyign mine.. and whether or not people understand that is not my concern.. i feel like i paid a premium for an outdated phone that cant update programs because they need 2.2, still can't get a decent gps lock, would like a performance upgrade that was told was coming and would like to stop deleting programs that i shoudl be able to move to the sd card so i can make room for more

the fact is... i have a problem with the people that say its all ok because easily placated people like them are the reason we get so much buggy equipment in the first place

they aren't doing you any favors.. you paid THEM for a product.. signed on for addition 2 years of service with the understanding that your equipment would be kept up to date in some fashion for a resonable amount of time.

why do i still need to switch into airplane mode, kill drm and mess with my GPS 4 months after buying this phone?

Yeah, just read another thread about how a new feature in google maps is only for froyo machines. Arrrg.

Great point... it's not just the added features of 2.2 that I'm looking forward to. It's the promise of fixing bugs that we have been plagued with since day 1 that I would like to see get fixed... the ones you described are great examples... yes, the bugs took some getting used to and there have been some work-arounds dreamed up, but come on, why are we still dealing with these now with the new year right around the corner? They were identified WAY early and should have been fixed a long time ago! It's tragic really... so disappointing...

This is garbage

The truth is this product should have never been released with 2.1 and possibly at all. Samsung said from day 1 that 2.2 would be released for all Galaxy S phones "shortly." In my book, the average life span of a mobile phone is ~20 months so waiting 1/5 of the life of a device is not "soon". Hell, there isn't even a date on the radar so soon has come and gone. Now with the latest XDA hardware GPS fixes, it's pretty clear this product is poorly designed and tested. I'm not happy that I spend hard earned technology dollars on a product while having a nice screen does not live up to commitments made by the manufacture and carrier when i purchase the phone from. No one in their right mind should be defending Samsung or Sprint for this garbage.

And yes, while agree there are options out there, for any enterprise users on the Galaxy S series of phones, these fixes are heavly frowned upon by corporate security engineers.

I've really had it with these phones. Yes, I love the idea of having a phone that let's me do everything....check my email, text messages, web, video, yada, yada, yada. But what good is a phone if it doesn't get updated? What good is a phone that you have to root and add applications to perform functions that should work out of the box. Luckily I, as we all are on these forums, are tech lovers and don't mind tinkering with our phones. But why?

My daughter's Blackberry broke and has to use my old Hero, and she HATES it. Why? cuz it's just not user friendly for the everyday user. She's got an itouch and figured it out in a few hours....she has no desire whatsoever to keep the Hero or any other Android phone for that matter.

Why do all these phones have to have different interfaces and overlays and nonsense? Why can't they all just have Android and be able to upgrade to the newest without having to worry about platform compatibility? Why? Money...now we dopes who shelled out for the Epic won't have the latest software for this "great" phone, and soon the Galaxy S2 will be out. So guess what? I'm sure Froyo will be the last update, IF we ever get it....it's all about the $$. Now we all have to drop another $200 for the newest phone. Such B/S

I'm completely convinced that the ONLY reason that Android is so popular is because the Iphone is exclusive to AT&T, but everyone wants one. So, we all buy these phones wanting the Iphone experience, which is very difficult, or impossible for the everyday user to achieve. I guarantee that once the Iphone is released on Verizon, it will DESTROY the Droid line in no time flat. And if it would ever come to Sprint....I would jump ship in a second. Why? It just works, and it works well. And, if there's an update....guess what? You actually get the update!!! Wow what a concept!!!

Sorry, but this has really been bugging me....:p

I guess we now know why the galaxy s phones were released with 2.1, apparently these would still be in development for 2.2 even though the same basic phone exists with 2.3.

i think that's the biggest kick in the ass of them all. the nexus S coming out iwth gingerbread was basically samsung telling us "we have your money... go f**k yourselves"

I blame Google for this as much as anyone. They really need to start putting more limitations on the free OS software they're providing to all of these ridiculous carriers and manufacturers.

Something along the lines of: "You *will* make your phone work with our new releases within X months or else you have to pay $Y in fees." Or whatever.

Android fragmentation is becoming an even bigger issue that it has been in the past now that there are several expensive high-end handsets out there all running different versions of software for no good reason whatsoever. Google has to put a stop to this.

Interesting you say that. Why are we so upset that our phones have not been updated? When did updating the OS of a phone become an expectation? If I'm not mistaken, it started with the iPhone. The iPhone started out as an iPod that could make phone calls and that was about it. But it got updates! Added features! Now we expect all smartphones to behave the same way.

I'm not saying we're wrong for expecting software updates. It's just an interesting paradigm shift that in just 2 or 3 years what we now expect and demand from our cell phone manufacturers.

i don't think there's anything wrong with expecting a company that is holdign us to a 2 year contract to be expected to support the phone for 2 years.
