Froyo RUU News, Reviews, Findings, Q&A.

I had the USB connection error (on both of my win7 machines) until I installed the HTC sync software (just to get all the drivers that come with it).

I installed it this am using the RUU...what happens with the OTA? do I already have what would be coming OTA?

For some reason, my Swype is not working. The app is there, but the touch input does nothing...any ideas?

Would I be a buzz kill if I said that aside from 720p and Flash...both of which I have...2.2 isn't much different that 2.1

ah, but Froya has an enhanced almagamator, that can handle a larger floptep much faster...

I'm sure you could see the difference.

Forgive me for being new at the whole rooting process, but if I Unrevoked3 and then Unrevoked forever, does this mean I won't be able to use OTA updates when VZW sends them out? I'm debating rooting now and applying this update or doing the update first and then waiting for a new root method to come out.

Swype has been having problems on 2.2 after you do a reboot. Uncheck it settings > Language and Keyboard. Then go into a typing app and make sure you enable/use the stock keyboard. Then go back to settings > L&K and check swype. You should be able to switch to swype when typing and it should work. You need to do this after each reboot.

This worked, but what a pain (having to redo after each reboot)

Thanks.

With 2.2 is it going to be necessary to continue to "Bump Charge" if so...I would have to re-select swype each time

Swype on 2.2

Ouch...that kinda sucks, I love my Swype.

Kinda minor, but curious -- has the boot-up animation changed to a red eye and the 'DROID' voice over?

Yes, it does have flash 10.1 built in, just checking you tube site direct videos, quality is amazing............

Now I am drooling. Do I wait until midnight or do I go ahead and do this when I get home tonight. Decisions decisions. Since it is a corp phone, I suppose I will wait for the official....unless it doesn't come tonight.

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried mlb.tv out with the flash player?

My phone is not yet rooted, I'm still running stock Sense/2.1 - when this download completes, is it easy to root the phone at that point? Or do we need to wait until somebody figures out how to hack 2.2 to root the phone?

I've been waiting for the update before exploring root, because I want to activate (free) wireless tether.

I emailed HTC support just to see what they'd have to say on this. First I asked them about Froyo and they said it has been released but hasn't been pushed.

Then I asked them if they could tell me when it will be pushed.

This was their response:

How can their support staff not know when it's going to be released?

Weird.

Is it bad that my first reaction to the official announcement was: "Damn, now I'm going to have to root my phone to get rid of all the crap-ware."

Not working

I am trying to install this update. However, I get stuck at one of two places, either my computer says it can't connected to usb device, or it will get past this and get stuck when waiting for the bootloader to load.

Any help is appreciated.

You don't have to turn the phone off to "bump charge." That term is really regrettable. All you are doing is topping off the charge because the firmware starts running off the battery the second the charge is completed (so if you charge overnight, you have "lost charge" -- that is, run off the battery for a period of hours -- by morning). It makes no difference whether the phone is on or off when you top it off (I've timed it -- is +/- a couple of minutes depending on the day -- no appreciable difference if the phone is on or off).

How long does it take to download to computer

I am going on 40 minutes and just barely over half way done. I have a fairly new computer but this seems to be taking a long time. Could it be that so many people are trying to download it that its taking this long?
