How are you liking the phone now?
It's working much better! No screen flickering. Screen responsiveness is still a bit wonky. But the battery life is a bit better. I've gotten 13 hours battery life last night and I still have 24% left.

I'm going in today. My pics rotate too but I can deal with it, but this touch responsiveness is driving me mad.

You got a new unit and still having issues? I may need to look at another phone.

It's not as bad as the other one. With the other one I would select an app and then have to press it 2 maybe 3 times on order for it to respond. With this new one the most trouble I'm having is the double tap to turn on doesn't work well.

Figured out if I install the Google Camera app from the Play Store (same camera that was on my Nexus 5), the pictures don't rotate anymore.
But going from LG's camera app to Google's camera app is like going from a Ferrari to...well, I don't know cars, but you get my drift.

So is it the EXIF data that the camera is putting in that is being interpreted differently?

Have you tried pics that were taking in auto mode Vs. pics taken in manual mode? I don't have a G4 yet, 😢, or I'd test that myself.

Doubt it's a phone specific thing. Have had it happen randomly on mine perhaps once or twice. Something must be wonky with the software imho.

I've noticed mine send upside down if I take a landscape portrait when I rotate my phone right, if I rotate left, they look fine.

Not sure if this is anyone else's solution, but mine has been working

I named the ends of these filenames accordingly. One was taken in Manual Mode, still turned sideways after sending to myself in gmail and then downloading to PC. The other was taken in RAW Manual Mode; same result.

As you can see, this one was taken with the Google Camera app instead of LG's stock camera app. *sigh*

Strange though that it's only a rare occurrence on yours, while it's 100% of the time on mine when taking portrait photos with the stock camera app. :-/

Do all 3 pictures show Orientation as 90 degree under Details in Gallery? I took some pics with all 4 positions and they all showed correctly in Gmail. LG logo right -> 0 degree, LG logo down -> 90 degree, LG logo left -> 180 degree, LG logo up -> 270 degree.

Have you updated Google Photo backup app on your phone? That's the first thing I did when I got the LG. I wonder if updating that app will somehow fix the orientation. We both got AT&T and some OS version, so the only thing I could think of are apps updates.

To clarify, in gmail mine look fine, too. It's when you actually download them from Gmail to your PC that they are suddenly flipped the wrong way, (and also when sending to someone they end up flipped on their end, MMS/e-mail/forum uploads/whatever).

As for the first question...
All three photos show correctly on the phone in my stock Gallery app (Quickpic too). Under details, one of the photos is 0 degrees, the other (despite showing upright correctly right now as I am looking at it) shows 90 degrees, and the third also shows 90 degrees in "details" despite looking portrait.

So the software of the camera is mistakenly adding 90 degrees to the EXIF data I guess. The correct one with 0 degrees is the Google Camera one.

The second question...
I haven't done anything with Google's Photos app on this new phone yet. Not even opened it. Guess I'll give that a try now, too.

Maybish also mentioned she's been using an SD card in hers, while I'm just using the internal storage with no card ever inserted into the device yet. What about you, lostchild?

Again, not having the phone yet I'm just guessing, but I'd say the lg camera app is miscalculating the rotation it stores in the exif. They have their own way of doing it that is incompatible with some other photo viewers. Apple iphones do the same thing, and in fact a photo with "good" exif rotation data may look wrong on an iphone (I know this as a web developer).

Luckily it sounds like it's just the camera app itself and not the OS, which means it might be fixed at some point sooner than later. You can also try another lollipop compatible manual camera app (there are two of them that are discussed in another thread http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=541050)

It also sounds like, for landscape photos, rotating one way works and the other way doesn't.

Also, there's a not-so-pretty-but-effective app called "photo exif editor" that can be used to edit individual or bulk photos.

I need someone to test something for me. I went under Settings/Display and initiated a "Motion Sensor Calibrate" and took some pictures and it may have helped. But then again my issue has been intermittent.

Thanks,

Brian

Never mind. They sent properly in Hangouts though. Weird.

I take it back. The first pictures I took went thru fine in Hangouts. When I took these the exact same way they did the rotate thing.

Didn't work for me.

Using Google Photos & updating it and all didn't work for me, either.

To those without improperly rotating photos; are you using an SD card or internal storage?

Discovered a similar issue last night and wanted to pass it along. Glad to see I'm not the only one!

I have a stock Verizon LG G4, purchased new last Sunday.

Took a bunch of pictures in portrait mode last night using the default camera app. In Pictures (and Gallery) the orientation is correct. I texted them to my wife's iPhone using Hangouts: the orientation is correct in Hangouts and also in her messaging app. She also saved them to her Photostream without any issues.

I noticed the problem when I posted them to Facebook. All of the portrait photos were rotated 90 degrees. Landscape photos appeared to be fine.

I checked the Google Photo backup on my laptop -- orientation appeared correct. As a workaround, I edited each of them, rotated them all 360 degrees and saved them. After that I was able to post them to FB without any issues.

After that I took a couple of pictures using the default camera and then the Google camera app. Posted both to FB and both were correct. I also tried clearing the cache and doing a force stop, so maybe that did something. Who knows!

If this is a problem with LG's camera app, I hope they address it soon! I have a 9-month old and family in far flung places, so taking and sharing pictures is 99% of the reason I bought the LG!

That's strange! It can't be because you edited a couple of pic and the future ones will be fixed! It probably has something to do with clearing the cache. Did you clear the data cache on the camera app? Or the facebook app?
