G4 Pictures rotating after sharing/sending them?

Jonneh,

Can you post the email address you sent your original email to. Maybe if more of us send emails regarding this issue, LG will step up their fix for this.
I was thinking the same thing

The more I think about it, the more I've come to the realization that this was an intentional decision on their part, as it allows the 16mp photos to store a lot faster... the camera app doesn't have to literally reformulate the entire photo in order to store as portrait -- it instead uses Exif rotation data. The downside, of course, is that many apps don't read Exif rotation data. I know I've written this before, but I doubt that LG would consider this to be bug, but rather an intentional software decision.

I went to their website (lg.com), --> support --> contact us --> chose e-mail and filled out the form.

Yep, it's what it's seeming like the more I've read from your posts, the testing we've all done, and the more I've read about EXIF and how certain manufacturers' (particularly the Korean ones, Samsung & LG) softwares treat it. Google's stock Android, HTC's Sense, Motorola's whatever, etc. don't experience the same results with image rotation.

As of now I'll just take everything with a grain of salt and hope I get updated by e-mail from LG that they're going to make this optional (choose slower image storing for a fix or something?) or just flat-out change it; but I'm moving on to re-saving in Quickpic for now. I'm still tempted to try out one of the 3rd party manual camera apps, but we'll see.

As soon as Vipek fixes the Manual Camera app to work on the G4, I'm sure it will become a hit -- the UI looks great.

My Samsung did this quite a bit, it's just not a LG issue.

I emailed LG regarding the photo rotation and not being able to save edited photos. I emailed on Saturday, they replied on Sunday. I'm impressed.

Thank you for taking time to contact LG and we really appreciate your e-mail!

I hope everything is going well with you.

We regret any inconvenience you’re having with your LG phone. Are you editing the pictures directly from the Gallery app of the phone? If so, please check if the Google Photos on your phone is updated to the latest version by going to Playstore app, type Google Photos on the Search button, update if necessary. Once the update has been completed, please try editing your pictures saved on your SD card.*

As for the orientation issue of the phone, this has already been raised to our Developers team and they’re checking if this is software-related and please expect an immediate positive response from them regarding this matter. I couldn’t provide you for now the ETA for a patch/update to be pushed through to the phone to fix the issue but we will keep you posted once we got a word from them.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience. If you have questions or need further assistance, please let me know. You can reach us out via LG Live Chat on our website (www.lg.com/us), or on our phone support by calling our technical support hotline800-243-0000/ 1-800-793-8896.*

Thank you and we wish you all the best.

Sincerely,
Ed

Since the first email they have had me try a different card and clear the cache for gallery. Can't say I'm expecting an immediate fix but I am impressed they are responding so quickly and troubleshooting the issue.

That's good news. It means they're testing it out and hopefully finding a fix

Yes, and it amazes me that they've communicated with each other, too. I'm likely the only one besides you to have contacted them about the orientation issue, and he mentioned it in his response. :-) very nice

I don't think it's a phone problem. I have a Note 4 and it's doing the same thing. Is everyone using Hangouts? I have also turned rotation off.

I wonder if this was fixed with the Verizon update. I haven't tested it. Anyone?

I don't know about the Verizon one, but it was the first thing I tested when I got the AT&T update (software H81010g; Build LMY47D) today around noon. Took a portrait photo and uploaded it to this forum, and it rotated once uploaded here. Didn't really have my hopes up anyway, though. It would've been too quick, lol.

Has anyone found a reason / solution for this? My G4 started doing it this weekend, with pics being sent via Hangouts. Strangely.... the issue corrected itself yesterday (all of the rotated pics are now in their correct orientation).

Read through the full thread (all umpteen pages of it!) -- the rotation is caused by how the LG camera app "rotates" photos (for anything but landscape) using Exif data rather than actually rotating the pixels of the photo; some apps know how to make use of that Exif rotation information, and many do not. If it's suddenly working out OK for you, it's because the rendering app (Hangouts or whatever) has changed to be able to read Exif rotation.

Anyways, please read through some, if not all, of the thread for some possible solutions.

I just noticed that Hangouts on my Dutch G4 had been updated, so I did a test with 3 portrait photos and they were not rotated! Seems like Google has finally listened...

My G4 is rotating the pictures from portrait to landscape and flipping landscape pictures so they are upside down. Any solutions anyone is aware of for anyone other than Elmeraculous?

Thanks!

For me if I edit a photo and then share to Facebook it comes out on its side or upsidedown.

Not that it's a great fix, but you can easily rotate photos (and videos!) within Facebook.

Unfortunately I can't seem to do this from Facebook on Android. So I need to post an upside down pic until I get to a computer sometimes much later in the day. Not to get off topic but is there a way to edit a photos orientation in the FB app?

Yes, go to the photo (after its posted) and there's a little "edit photo" link. That's in the mobile site, not the app... but I'm sure its in the app as well.
