Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on November 21st?

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

Most likely the average customer walking in will be drawn to the huge poster and futuristic display of the brand-new "Droid" phone (Razr). They'll be overwhelmed and eyes will be glazed over by the marketing, enough so that they'll forego those "other" phones sitting mildly along with the other models that don't have the glitz (like the HTC and GN).

S'ok, let 'em buy the phone-for-the-masses. :)

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

Let's not forget, guys, the Galaxy Nexus is not the Nexus of the past. This one is running ICS which is supposed to make people LOVE their Android device, per Matias' interview with The Verge. An average customer may walk into the Verizon store and see the RAZR and then the Nexus with it's enormous HD screen and beautiful ICS look and fall in love with it. Pure, stock Android doesn't need to be ashamed or covered by skins anymore, it's is ready for the masses and not just us tech-heads.

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

I have heard that there will be 2 - 3 VZW "Bloat Apps" that have shown up in a recent build that someone has seen for Big Red's version of the Nexus. It was noted that it appeared as though the bloat would be My Verizon and Verizon Wireless Backup (Backup Assistant, I think).

By my definition those 2 apps would definitely fall in the bloatware category. That said, I would be okay with My Verizon, not so much with Backup Ass. If there's a 3rd one, my guess is it would be Visual Voicemail.

Things would really fall apart if I they slapped on any of the following: Blockbuster, City ID, BitBop, NFL Mobile, Skype, Kindle, VZ Nav, all those vCast apps, Slacker, VZW Instant Messenger, Slacker Radio, Quick Office, or Bing -- all of which are available in the Market by choice not by force.

Will VZW's Mobile Hotspot be on the Nexus or do you think we'll just use the tethering menu build into stock Android? (Obviously not for free because, hey, it's Verizon.)

I think this will be less of an issue with Ice Cream Sandwich's 'disable app' feature which removes it from the app drawer and stops it from ever loading. Unfortunately, it still takes up memory I'm sure. At least it should be easy to obtain root and destroy those apps completely if someone wishes it.

As long as it's regulated to just three "bloatware" apps then I'll be fine with it.

Yeah, MyVZW is fine with me and I don't really consider that bloat per se. I guess technically it is, but it's a least useful if you are on Verizon.

I agree with you on that one. I really hope that none of the latter list makes it on the Nexus. What bloat did the Nexus S 4G launch with? Wasn't there a couple of Sprint bloat apps on there? Maybe this will turnout like that did. Visual Voicemail could definitely show up as well as what Stang68 was saying, it could be the Verizon Mobile Hotspot as well. I really hope VZW doesn't load up all the crap on the Nexus like any other phone on its network. That pretty much says that it isn't a Nexus device then. Time will certainly tell though.

No Sprint software on the Nexus S at all. Not even VV

I am fine with 3 apps especially with ics where you can disable and hide them.

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

So are we thinking it's:

1) the 17th
2) the 21st (week of)
3) the 21st (web only)

Is there any consensus?

There's #4! Lol

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

Why? What makes you think Google and/or Samsung feel they have anything to learn from this? Do you happen to know for a fact that either company is unhappy? Or are you just coming to this conclusion because you are too impatient to wait for some official word?

Everyone on here is speculating, sothese were just my thoughts. If you were a company like Google or Samsung, wouldn't you want your products do be out before or at least by black friday?? Would you want your product to take a back seat to Droids??

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

God forbid a business should release something when they deem the most beneficial for them and their shareholders, lol.

Sooo ... they don't benefit when they listen to what Apple wants???lol

Maybe. But, what Google and/or Samsung wants is not the only consideration. There has to be a negotiation between Google/Samsung/Verizon on what works for everyone, and Verizon pretty much has the biggest stick.

Not relevant. The iPhone has no competition from other iOS devices and its easier for Verizon to move around d release dates of other smartphones to suit the iPhone release. And believe me, Apple does not have the sole say in the exact date the iPhone comes out.

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

There may be something to that Nov. 21st date. UK has also delayed the launch to the week of the 21st (Notice the article says "week of" and not w/o = web only) at least according to this article: Samsung Galaxy Nexus ? Shipping update | Handtec Blog

Loud noises :D

I hope its week of instead of Web Only. I would rather buy the phone and have it in my hand that day instead of having to wait a day or 2.

No ones saying that Apple has the sole say but they do solidify a date with Verizon........Verizon doesn't decide when its best for them to release the iphone and toy with it for weeks and months.
