Galaxy S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

Thanks. But I often want to turn on mute instead of hanging up. That said, I found that if I push the on button, when the screen is off during a call the screen revives as a pull the phone away and I can push mute or off without waiting for the screen to auto-revive. Just wish the auto-revive was not so agonizingly slow compared to other phones.

Under Call Settings you can enable a setting that ends the call with the power button.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (Verizon)

Thanks, but I often want to push mute, so screen revive speed is the issue for me. I found, though, that pushing the on button as I move the phone away to see the screen revives the screen immediately. Just wish the auto revive was as fast as others phones.

I've spent 5 cumulative hours playing around with the Galaxy S5 at my local Verizon store. I didn't get any lag. But I figured out how I'd want my homescreen to look when I get the 32 GB S5.

No LAGGGGGGGGGG here! This is the first samsung device that I actually love. I even went out and bought the galaxy tab pro 8.4 which is also the best tablet I've ever had the pleasure of owning. And yes I own a Verizon ipad air.

So happy with the way samsung has been building there products. I truly believe it has to do with kit Kat's lighter build.

Spent some time today playing with one at BBC and loved it. Can't wait till September to upgrade. Coming from a S3.

Re: S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

Droid-Life trashed the phone though :(. They said design and performance were terrible :(. I was really looking forward to upgrading to the S5, but their review gave me a bit of pause. Then again, its pretty much the only bad review out there.

I have had tons of lag with Google chrome. Its really annoying. I tried firefox and its not much better. Sadly more iPhone 5 with a slower processor and less ram blew the browser on my S5 away. Aside from that the camera can be slow at times to launch but no other conplaints.

Re: S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

I just got mine and am using TouchWiz. So far I haven't noticed any lagging. I did see it in videos specifically demonstrating the lag, but for me it's been extremely fast. Now, I should add that this is my first Android device and I'm coming from an iPhone 4, so it's not like I'm going from one brand new device to another, but I don't see any of the demonstrable lag that I saw in videos for example. I also haven't been doing anything special in terms of optimizing things, given that I just got it. I'm still using TouchWiz (which many attribute the lag to). I've downloaded apps, set up my accounts, disabled/hidden ones I don't use.... that's about it. So far, so good. Can you try a demo version maybe? One review I read said something that I thought was quite good - that the Galaxy was slightly slower compared to another phone he was reviewing (I believe the M8) but that most users wouldn't notice it in real life use. It's more something if you're analyzing side by side. I haven't had any, 'Ugh, why did that take a second to load' moments.

Well, those videos are misleading.... the S5 is a fast phone.. but the Nexus 5 (the other device I see most used) is just a wee bit faster still. The lag the S5 has is comparative, not absolute.

Had it over 2 weeks as my daily driver. There is definitely lag there compared to my m8 and iphone 5s. If you aren't coming from a newer device you won't notice it, but if you are coming from any device released in the last 6-12 months you will probably notice some lag. The camera opening was slow and opening up the gallery is agonizingly slow. Those are the slowest apps IMO.

Now is it a deal breaker? That's up to you. The screen is absolutely amazing, speaker is terrible, camera is fantastic, fingerprint scanner sucks.

No phone is perfect so pick what's important to you and make a decision based on that.

I still disagree on the lag, I'm coming from a Nexus 5 and I see no difference at all. Things are pretty instant on both devices.

I have a Nexus 5 and the S5 sitting in front of me on the desk - and the N5 is much, much faster. It just never stutters, never slows down, has smoother scrolling in most apps (photos, Google+, Feedly etc.). The S5 seems to be ok on its own, but you won't want to upgrade from a Nexus 5 and you wouldn't want to compare it directly to an M8. It really depends on what phone you're coming from. I already reduced the animation time and I'm using the GEL launcher on it, but there's no real difference.

I picked up my GS5 yesterday at AT&T after returning the Note 3. I loaded up the usual bunch of apps, disabled the usual bloatware and so far its running just fine. I also moved every app (or portion of the apps) that I could the microSD since I now have a 128GB card in mine. So I have just under 10GB free and I can live with that. I am ordering a Nexus 7 2013 for a second screen and some occasional gaming and to make up for ditching the Note3.

I am so sick and tired of all this crap about lag! This started way back with the S3 and has been used by FanBoys ever since! Bottom line is if you know what you are doing and change some settings this phone is just as fast as any on the market now! Add Nova launcher to the mix and it is absolutely blazing! Outside of the Gallery App which has been an issue for some time, everything is rock'n fast, PERIOD!
Now, if that's too much work for you, and you don't mind buying a phone missing the options and features of the S5, by all means go pickup a N5 or One M8! But don't fool yourself, just because it's less doesn't make it better! To each their own!

Cheers

Yeah, I realize the videos are specifically trying to demonstrate a point. I find the S5 nice and fast. I admittedly haven't used other Android devices so I have no point of comparison, but for me the S5 is speedy enough. It seems whether the lag gets to people is an individual thing based on their previous experiences (if you previously used an even faster phone or not), so I guess the best thing is for ppl to try it themselves? I'm coming from an iPhone 4 so.... this is super speedy to me :p

Dude...discussing lag is important because not everyone is like the people on tech forums and know how to activate developer options and install other launchers.

Absolutely zero lag, but I always turn off all animations and run Nova.

Point taken!
BUT, those complaining about lag are also those who talk about Root and removing bloatware so don't tell me they don't know how to change a few simple settings!!!! The general buying public is more then happy with the speed of the S5 even with the transitions/animations designed into the S5 and actually like the affect that they create!
I have been reading for years that all we want is options to turn off stuff...Samsung listens and all I hear is we shouldn't have to turn off stuff! If your going to *****, at least make it a legitimate complaint! It's not like EVERY phone doesn't have it's share!

Cheers
