Galaxy S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

Re: S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

I've only had this phone for a few days, but I don't see any lag on a regular basis. There have been a couple of times where an app wouldn't load correctly and it needed to be manually closed and reopened, but I think those were issues with specific apps, not the phone itself.

Re: S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

yep. that's a common issue on all phones. software issue.

Re: S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

Yep, if I install an app and anything weird goes on, I uninstall and get a refund if needed.

Re: S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

8 hours on the phone so far today and I am at 90%. I would say that is AMAZING. Not using battery saver etc. BUT, I haven't used the phone much today either.

My phone is faster than my friends Iphone 5s,

I haven't had such luck like you - After 8-10 hours of light use the battery has been around 50%. With the M8 I would have ~80% of my battery remaining at the end of my work day....it's a noticeable difference.

I keep feeling like I made the wrong decision when I hear things like this. I'm past my 14 days so I'm stuck but if updates don't solve my issue I don't know what I'll do.

There really isn't any lag outside of a slow transition to My Magazine. Even then, I wouldn't call that lag---it's just a heavy animation. That's the big difference between Touchwiz and other UIs. Luckily, you can change the animation speeds in developer settings and even change the transition animation in Touchwiz in the Home settings. I believe there's card stack, which is default. That animation is fine. There's carousel like the old Touchwiz, and there's no animation like stock Android.

I'm not sure how long you got to play with it at Verizon, but I've had it since Friday and it's lag free. Now there's people here and elsewhere that like perpetuating these myths that it lags horribly, so don't take my word for it or anyone elses. Play with it again and verify for yourself.

I love it YES YES I have heavy animation! In all seriousness I can see lag here and there if I look for it but I love the S5 and it certainly doesn't bother me. I have sideloaded the Google launcher and used Nova and see less lag...BUT I like TouchWiz better and thats what I use and never notice the lag unless I look for it.

My VZW S5 takes 1-2 seconds for the screen to come on and pull it out of sleep mode after clicking the unlock button. I'm thinking this has something to do with Samsung's/KitKat's battery efficiency optimizations, as the phone is really great on battery when in standby. One to two seconds doesn't sound like much, but it quickly gets annoying.

Just saw this, so other people have noticed it as well: http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s5/380189-galaxy-s5-lockscreen-lag.html

Individual bad user experiences shouldn't be used to judge any phone, when this can be caused by tons of specific apps and/or settings. For the most people the S5 is one of the, if not the best, battery efficient phone, ever.

Take a look at my stats today after a very long day of heavy usage and connected to my Gear 2 Neo, for the most part of it.

I have Sync turned off for basically everything expect Gmail. I've had to many Android phones and understand them quite well but the S5 is not performing nearly as well as yours. No idea why but I can't go a full day without a charge where I was able to do that with a Thunderbolt, RAZR, Note 2 and Note 3. The Droid Maxx variants (RAZR included) were also excellent but that's expected.

I'm not one to jump the gun here but this is ridiculous. Also, I notice your mobile data isnt showing. Verizon shows the 4G logo at all times, WiFi on or not and Mobile data enabled or disabled but its dim saying not in use. I'm basing my battery drain based on previous experience and a little bit on numbers like yours. I'm down to 50% after 2 hours display time at most, no talk time (normally) and 5 hours off the charger. Not the worst numbers by any means but should last longer than this.

Honestly, the S5 is laggy for me. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the hardware. Might ditch my M8 for a while after I flash proper Android.

I get that touchwiz has some neat features. It really does, but overall it's gimicky laggy garbage and I want a phone that's functional and lightning fast.

As some one mentioned here, I changed transitions from 0 to 0.5. It actually improved the response. Is there any youtube link which shows affect of these settings vs performance. I compared multi task window with calculator app between S5 and M7. M7 is pretty quick to open up multi task window and scale up calculator app to full screen as soon as I tap. In case of S5, something is holding it back for a second before it starts scaling up app to full screen. Scaling up thing is actually pretty quick. But It doesn't scale up immediately after the tap. When I tap calculator app in multi task window, it simulates one more click on the app (app flickers one more time). So something is going on between tap input and actual response.

Then some app or something is draining your battery. After 17 hours of use yesterday I was around 60%, and that's using Spotify for 2 hours as well.

what font are you using on the device?

what font are you using on the device?

I downloaded a package (I don't know if I saw it here or over XDA) that contains this one and a couple of others, this specific one seems to be similar or the same used by default on the HTC One, I tried it and I liked the way it looks and I'm planning to keep it. If you want to try them here is the link.

The font is called RobotoCondensed-Regular.

My previous phone was way worse, so I can't really complain. I just keep a charger everywhere - work, home, car. I also have a battery pack for when I go out after work.

Then some app or something is draining your battery. After 17 hours of use yesterday I was around 60%, and that's using Spotify for 2 hours as well.

I appreciate the thought - it doesn't appear to be any one thing - it changes daily and nothing is usually over 20%.

YW. I have noticed that batteries can have their good and bad days. I'm using a live wall paper today and my battery is discharging at twice the speed it was yesterday.
