GB .595 is out in the wild

hey guys, i dropped this on my phone and went into clockwork, installed it no problem, but now i'm in a bootloop. i've wiped the cache and done a factory reset with no luck. any ideas or should i just SBF back to 2.2.1 and start over?

*******edit********

i flashed back and re-downloaded clockwork and am just gonna restore my backup. im going to reattempt to install GB but it's clear i did something wrong. does anyone have a suggestion?

i put it on the SD and used clockwork to install the zip as directed, then i got the bootloop and tried factory resetting but this didn't help.

thanks!

Before you SBFed back did you try taking the battery out and putting it back in to see if that helped? What were you on before going to .595?

yeah i did several battery pulls and factory wipes. i was on the .340 software for android 2.2.1. i managed to get back to clockwork and restore my backup and now i just reinstalled GB using clockwork with the same result....not sure im too confident in this leak right now....

That is why you went into bootloop... you cannot go from .340 to .595... you have to go from .340 to .588 (stock recovery) to .591 (clockwork recovery) to .595 (clockwork recovery)

yeah i just found that out on droidworld, was about to edit my post. now on droid world they recommend going from .340 to .588 rooted then straight to .595, not sure why they skipped .591 unless it's under the consideration that .588 is normally unrooted and you have to add the step.

Confirmed this works. I used these steps without even coming to this post yet.

I even installed directly from .573, no wipe/factory reset and no issues. Works great.

sniffs, you went from .573 to .591 then to .595? i'm on .573 now...just making sure that it does work. did you use any specific version of .591...and what version of .595 did you use?

thanks alot!

actually here's just what i did:

1) clockworked my backup of .340 so i could have a functioning phone
2) downloaded the team blackhat app for $2 (well worth it) and downloaded the *rooted* version of .588 as one file then installed it using bootstrap
3) downloaded .595 (full de-odexed/stock) and installed it using bootstrap then used gingerbreak to root. worked like a charm.

you scan skip .591if you do this.

cheers!

I think P3Droid just said that you won't be able to OTA from .595 anymore. You'll have to SBF back to .340 in order to get the OTA update and .596 can't currently be rooted by any means.

This is true... and lots of emphasis was put on not (yet) going to .596 if you want to stay rooted.

Thanks for the news guys, I was tempted to go stock .595 but now I'm diffidently staying on Deodexed Rooted .595 until all the dust clears....Amen!!!

actually on droid world they said you needed to be on .595 in order to get the OTA. this is detailed in the section called "upgrade path" on the link in the first post. previous builds (.588, .591) cannot receive the OTA for whatever reason. thats how it reads, unless they completely mis-represented it.

@P3DROID ... who made that post on the other form ... said the situation has changed as of yesterday.

booooo. well luckily flashing an SBF is easy lol. i can't quite seem to get gingerbreak to work though so i can't get into bootstrap. i'll have to look into that....

**edit**

so it appears gbreak won't work on .595 anyway. i don't have much faith whether anybody *truly* knows what's upgradeable since the story keeps changing so im just gonna SBF back to .320 and clockwork my backup to .340 and wait til friday for some tasty baked goodness to drop on my phone like nuggets from heaven.

Why don't you just SBF to .340?

sadly enough i lost my copy of the .340 sbf lol and im too lazy to look for it right now since im at work lol. for me it doesn't matter since im just rooting and bootstrapping into my backup of .340 with all my apps and settings installed.

Anyone else having issues with connectivity with .595? About once a day I lose 3G and 1x (signal is just bars) and get no connectivity for web etc.

I have tried turning on/off airplane mode and connecting/disconnecting to wifi, but I have to reboot to get it back. Odd

i was getting some of that and i also noticed that if i was on wifi the 3G wouldn't toggle on at all for MMS. there were a few quirks with that build that hopefully will get addressed. i've been having radio problems overall with my phone and it happens whether i'm in good or bad reception areas, i constantly good the "no nationwide access" message when trying to download MMS and i have to futz with the phone alot to get it to download.

Gingerbreak works on .595 without issues, I am running it now rooted with Gingerbreak but you have to use the 1.20 version.

Well... remember back a few days ago I was in the stock .595 and was having problems with Gingerbreak.

....It may not like your SD card or it could be something else all together ... I decided not to mess with any of that and went to .595 deodexed.

well then you're lucky, it definitely did not work for me. i tried it several times with no success, and i believe it doesn't work for alot of people since there are several comments on droidworld about it not working on .595. i just checked and i was using 1.20. oh well.
