Get your toothbrushes ready, the sugary sweet lollipop update for the LG G2 was released today

I've had it for a few days, and am not very fond at this point. I definitely don't hate it, but I'm surely not in love. Here are some reasons why. Now, I'll be listing all pre-Lollipop (pLp) differences I've noticed, despite how minor they may be.

  • pLp, I could press and hold the power button from any screen to pull up a Power and volume menu. Now, only the Power menu appears.
  • pLp, I had widgets loaded in the lock screen (Weather, Flashlight, Quick Remote, et cetera); only the Camera is an option now.
  • pLp, the battery lasted throughout my day with regular use, where it has shut off by 10p tonight, and while it's plugged in, won't charge, just remains on 0%.
  • pLp, when viewing images, I could double-tap to zoom in. I thought this simple feature was lost, but realized I just have to tap slower and more deliberately.
  • pLp, I had a Home button to press and hold for the recent apps to be displayed; now, there's a circle for Home, and my Menu button is a square that was converted into a recent apps scroll list that I dislike.
  • pLp, I had an aforementioned Menu button to use in place of apps that had the 3-dot menu; now, the 3-dot menu is the only option, even if some apps place it in undesirable locations.

There are others I'm sure I'm forgetting. Though, I'll close for now. I guess it's safe to say the grass is certainly not always greener on the other side of the OS update. :-\

Cheers,
Jack

If you hold the recent apps button it will pull up menu items.

You can add buttons to it still, like before. Granted the Home button hold is ingrained in how I have used it...and have caught myself holding it.....Might be able to reassign what it does with long press possibly? (In other ROMS that I have used.....on other phones I had rooted....some had it built in to do that.....maybe it is there and we just don't know how to do it yet?) Granted this is not a ROM....just saying.

As far as battery life, mine seems to be ok after powering over a few times and back on.....or restarting. I have noticed it has been better each day.

What I don't like is I no longer have landscape view of my apps in the app drawer when I turn the phone sideways...Kit Kat you could do it.

I hate this update and everything about it! From the cartoonish looking icons and generic weather widget, to the fact that I can't link facebook images to my address book anymore, or one button talk to text. I just want to get the old one back! How can I do that?
You can get it back by using the LG flash tool.

My biggest complaint is sprint out of all the carriers was the only one to remove lg home theme settings /options. For that reason alone I'll be rooting and roming. Thanks for the feature killing update 😀

Hi, BB_Bmore -

I'm not sure what you mean by "home theme settings." I can adjust the background image, app placement, home screen animation and order, etc. I guess you're referring to something else, though. P.S. I'm a n00b who is only slightly familiar with root access and such. If it is related to that, I understand why I don't understand!

Cheers,
Jack

Got my update last night. But hesitant on downloading/installing. So far I hear nothing good from lollipop on the G2. when it was announced by Google it looked so awesome. Sadly I can't afford to hate my phone ATM.
Anyone have anything nice to say about Lollipop? Lol

The update must be some sort of snake draft with first from last update going last with the subsequent update...I got Kit Kat on day 1, hour 1, but so far not a sniff of Lollipop....

This morning I installed the Lollipop update. It is going smoothly. However, I do have one question. My flashlight app icon seems to have disappeared. I can see in the app list that it is installed on the phone but I am unable to find the icon anywhere. Has anybody else experienced this or have any suggestions on where to find the icon. Thanks.

What flashlight app do you use?

My phone came pre-installed with one form LG, it is just called Flashlight. It is still installed after the Lollipop update but I am unable to find the icon.

The pre installed flashlight from LG appears to be a widget now. Previously it was only an app. Anydangway, I think it will work in the same fashion for me. Thanks.

Is anyone having WiFi problems? Since lollipop my WiFi has slowed to a crawl. Like dial up may have been faster.

Same thing happened to me. I was prompted to update it. But you can get it back just press hold the square and look for flashlight widget.

Updated.
And I dont like that I cant completely silent my phone with volume keys. It will only go as far vibrate and not silent.
And cant find how to change themes. So far just alot of getting used to.
I keep pressing and holding the O and it just pops up google. Now I cant remember what it was before? Home? And tasks right?

I got Lollipop about a week ago and I really just don't like it.
1. I don't like that they changed the menu button's function.
2. the text messaging app now only suggests 3 words when I'm typing and all the suggestions are horrible.
3. I don't like the plan cartoony looking icons.
4. Where did the wireless storage function go?

Wow, how did I miss that wireless storage was gone?!! Great call out. Very disappointed to find that this feature is gone.
