[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

Having problem with adb tools and service pack and market. acnt seen to get them to work, is this done by usb or with the nook. realy lost never tried this stuff before now addicted. would really like to use app store, thanks

Titanium Backup

Many thanks to those with far more knowledge than I have, and thanks to the clear instructions my Color Nook is running Honeycomb and the Market Place is alive and well and downloads work fine. But before I go any further I wanted to backup what I've got (in case I do something dumb), so I downloaded Titanium from Market Place and I'm stuck. What I believe is the case is this: I'm able to root from my PC using ADB (I can get to "shell"). However, if I attempt to SU using ConnectBot installed on the Nook, I don't have permission direct from the Nook (only through ADB). So the question is this: How do I get "rooted" direct on the Nook so Titanium, Superuser, and BusyBox can be installed.....or do I need to sideload these applications from my PC onto the SD Chip. As a note, I work alongside a group of UNIX developers....but I'm the old guy in Operations at our company. I told them I wanted to "struggle" a bit and they go "Dude...we're here to help." I'd rather try to figure this out myself, with a bit of help from this forum.

This worked for me on a MAC. The normal adb method didn't work out of the box with Honeycomb on my Nook Color.
But change your adb_usb.ini to have this single 0x2080 vendor ID and everything took off. Can't take credit.. found this from another thread in my hours of searching... don't remember where I saw it or I'd give credit.

echo 0x2080 > ~/.android/adb_usb.ini

can sombody make like a youtube video explaining how to install the market on the nook color...i just cant understand these instructions for adb

I answered my own question, I believe. A backup utility like Titanium is designed to backup to the SD Drive. If I'm running off the SD Drive, that's putting all the eggs in one basket. So I simply used WinImage to create a image of the SD Drive. Again....all of this has been an interesting experiment. My hope is, now that the SDK for 3.0 is out, work can continue by those who REALLY understand. For example, I would love to include my corporate email, but without Google Calendar, there is not much sense.

I've got a question for you. When you backed up the SD card with Winimage, which partition did you tell it to backup? I did this yesterday, but I couldn't do the whole SD card, just individual partitions.

OK, first, I'd like to say that the v04 version is pretty good. I have it running on a Team Class 10 8GB card with no problems and it is pretty snappy compared to my previous Sandisk Class 4.

However, a quickie question... when is a v05 version going to come out? ;) I'm anxious to see additional compatibility features (like fixing the tilt sensor for games like Hungry Shark, etc.). Also, since the SDK is out, I hope I'm correct in assuming that a corresponding newer version of Honeycomb came with it?

Anyway, to Will and company, THANKS so much for your work. But, I mean, HEY(!), it's been a whole 20 days already with no updates! Whassup?!? :D

I successfully completed the steps to get honeycomb onto my 16gb Class 6 Micro SDHC card and it boots up and runs fine on the NC, but the wireless isn't working properly. It'll scan for wireless networks, find the one I'm trying to connect to and it will be at full strength, but as soon as it starts trying to obtain the IP address, it loses all connectivity, is anyone else having this issue? I never had this issue until I inserted the SD card and began running honey comb. Now it's just in a continuous loop of trying to obtain the IP address, then re-scanning, trying to obtain the IP address, etc.

Has anyone else had this problem or how can I go about fixing it?

I was able to get Titanium fully installed this evening. I realized that the "sticky" about rooting Honeycomb was really about how to root the Color Nook that was running Honeycomb on the SD Chip. So....now I am rooted through the ADB and direct from the Nook. Getting ready to spring for the PRO version, so I can sync to Dropbox. That makes sense. I think it is time to stop. I figure that either (1) Version 4 is coming or someone is going to drop the SDK on Android 3.0 on us peons, and we can start all over again. But it has been fun. I'd be willing to stick where I am if we could just get Google Calendar. Still don't know why that is missing.....

I didn't have that problem. In fact I didn't even get the question. It just wrote the entire Card image. Wish I could help.

I just put this on my 16GB sd and booted into honeycomb and it comes to a keyboard on the right and wants me to enter a password. Any suggestions? Im going to try and reburn this tomorrow.

I'm having a similar problem. Before trying to connect, my NC says the signal is strong, but after it fails the display says "out of range". It worked when I first installed Honeycomb on the SD card and still works fine when I run the rooted stock firmware. I made a backup image (when it was working) and will try that.

yeah, mine either says out of range or continuously tries in vain to obtain an IP address. But like you said, no problems running the stock firmware with connection issues. Anyone got any troubleshooting steps we could take?

I'm trying to use winImage to restore the honeycomb img file to the micro SD card, but once I open the file and tell it to restore the virtual disk image, the drive list it populates is empty, any help with this one?

I restored my copy of the image (using dd on my Mac) and Honeycomb is now working normally again.

I came across the same problem. I burnt honeycomb using Win32 Disk imager, and it works fine. much easy to use than winimage.

I have done steps 1, 2 and 3. Everything seems OK but the NOOK Color does not boot from the card. Have used both WINIMAGE and WIN 32 DISK IMAGER. Same non result when trying to boot the NC from the card. The card works fine when formatted for the NC and also while writing the image (WIN 32 DISK IMAGE writes at right at 6 mb/sec. So I don't think the card is bad. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
