[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

also i forgot to mention that very so often some of my programs crashes alot and forces me to quit.

Like the browser for example. it's really slow. in terms of pinching there's a lot of lag.

anybody else feel this too?

somebody tell me how to fix youtube. plus flash player! roflmao

I cant get the market to push thru ADB, it tells me path not correct. I need a complete walk thru , can anyone help me out

do you have the right path to your adb?

The rest is very simple, just copy and paste each line.
if you get more specific, i can help you.

Could anyone please tell me what the code is for checking what are the names of the apk's on my nook and what the code is for copying my apk's to my pc. So I can backup my downloaded apk's and load them when the next build comes out.
Thanks in advance
Philn

How do you restore the SD card once you've tried this? Now i only have 113mb of storage when I load the card in windows.

I removed the card from the Nook, booted up and reinserted the card. After that I went into Settings-Device Info-SD Card, then unmounted the card and formatted it with the Nook, giving me the full capacity of the card.

Formatting it in Windows might also work, but I haven't tried it.

Thanks for trying... took some time to try since I tried it over on each USB port for both my Win7 and XP machines... still get the same response.

Maybe I'll just wait for the next release. Think that may be easier to install the market on?

I have a ? hopefully not duplicated... I installed HC to SD on my hubby's nookcolor, everything worked beautifully... then going in REVERSE I took the SD card out and rebooted ? decided I wanted to root so? went to: How to Root, installed the latest update from the B&N site per recommendation. Naturally now I decided I must see if the HC on SD worked. NOT! At this point I had spent so many hours setting everything up on my laptop, then actually installing HC on the SD that I just quit. The device is now just stock w/latest B&N update.
I have a nookcolor arriving for myself today, I would like to run Froyo on the device, HC on an SD card. Since there are so many threads I was hoping someone could recommend steps to take in correct order! I?m listing what seems to make sense:
1 - UPDATE to latest Version @ B&N Site
2 ? How to Root Your NookColor
3 ? Install Nookie Froyo to Internal Memory
4 - Overclock Nook to 1100MHz
5 ? Install Honeycomb to NookColor (SD card)
6 ? Root Honeycomb on NookColor
Please let me know if this is the way to go???
Thank you!

It looks good, the only thing would be only update to 1.1.
I heard a rumor that 1.5 was out, but not sure. if it is out, you won't be able to root 1.5.

How I installed market place and Google services

First off, I’m super excited about honey comb! I’m a new to the nook.

How I installed Marketplace and Google services on my nook
I’m running windows 7 32bit

Installing ADB.
Used instructions from: [DRIVER PACK] Easy USB ADB Installer for Windows (32/64 bit) - xda-developers

I downloaded the “combo pack”

Follow the instructions 1-3
Step 4 really does not apply to me/us, since we all probably plugged our nook color into our pc before we got ADB installed. Continue to instructions below.

Right click on “Computer” -> “Manage”
Click on “Device Manager” on the left panel under System Tools.
Click on the Triangle next to “Other Devices” to expand this section, you should see the android device.
Click on the Android Phone device to highlight the device then right click and go to “update driver software…”
Click on “Browse my computer for driver software”
Click “Browse” and navigate to and highlight “C:\android-sdk-windows “ make sure you check “includes subfolders” and Click “Next”
The pc will search for the drivers and will find the drivers and prompt you with a warning that the drivers are not signed by MS, select “Allow or Yes” (forgot exact wording).
After the drivers are installed Click “Finish” and the device should be installed.

Copy the GoogleServicesFramework.apk and vending.apk to the C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools folder
Open up Command Prompt:
Win7: Start -> Search for “CMD”. CMD.Exe should come up and then click on the cmd.exe
WinXP: Start -> Run -> type cmd then hit enter

The command prompt will start you off in directory where you do not want
Type: cd/ <hit enter>
Type: cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools <hit enter>
This will bring you to the dir where you want to be
Type: adb devices <hit enter>
This will confirm that you device is connected

Then follow the rest of the instructions list on the first page from Step 4 from “Installing the Android Market on the Nook Color running Honeycomb” from the first page

Hope this helps

I'm not sure what happened, but I have rooted B&N 1.1.0 (internal) and rooted HC (SD card) both working fine here. I installed the 1.1 update before doing anything else, but I don't see how that would affect HC. I also tried Froyo on a SD card, but wasn't that impressed.

Problem with Class 10 SD Card

I have a Nook Color Rooted with 1.1.
I put Honeycomb v4 on a Sandisk Class 2 8GB card with no problems booting and using.
I got an expensive Patriot Class 10 8GB card and put Honeycomb on it and it freezes at the small "android_" with the cursor flashing after android.

As an experiment, I put Froyo on the Class 10 card and it boots just fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

I posted this on the Froyo thread because I'm giving that a shot before doing Honeycomb, but I'm hopeful that someone on this thread might have some ideas. Here's what I posted:

I'm about to give up. I was able to install Froyo on the SD card and it works fine on the NC. The problem is trying to install the Marketplace. I think I've tried everything from this thread, from the thread about Honeycomb, and from various other websites. I'm on a Mac, and where I'm stumped is getting the NC with the SD card to be recognized by my computer. When the unrooted NC is connected, it shows up as a drive in Finder. I've downloaded and installed platform-tools and tried the command: sudo sh -c “mkdir -p ~/.android; echo 0?2080 > ~/.android/adb_usb.ini; adb kill-server; adb devices”. When that asked for a password and didn't work, I found a site that explained how to add the proper path to that command line. That eliminated the password requirement, but the NC with the SD still wasn't recognized by my Mac. I know I'm rambling, but does anyone have any ideas about what I may be doing wrong? I feel that if I can ever get the rooted NC to show up in Finder I can take the next step and load Marketplace, but I'm stumped at this point. Thanks!

If anyone here has an ideas, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

When i try to login to my google account for the market,it says , cant establish a reliable data connection to the server. Any ideas?

The virtual SD card partition won't be mounted on your Mac (so it won't show up in Finder) but adb can be used to transfer files. See the section "Installing the Android Market on the Nook Color running Honeycomb" in post #1.

I followed the instructions in post #1 using my Mac and it went quite smoothly. I wasn't asked for a password; apparently that is related to class 10 SD cards.

I just wanted to say THANKS to Will Shanklin, the Dev team and countless others. I bought a NOOKcolor to simply be an e-reader; really. However, BN's crippled version of QuickOffice doesn't display many of the pdf files in my personal library. Search the BN forums for the infamous "red x" issue.

I came here for a solution. Rooting and adding Honeycomb seemed like the only good option. It took a few hours to get it right, but I achieved success. The late night reminded me of my early computer hacking days/nights on the ZX81, VIC20, Comm 64 and then the AppleII. The 6502 seems quaint these days.

Now I have a very cool multi-capable reader that does what I want plus a whole lot more. This was kind of fun. I look forward to more updates.

Cheers,
polarflyer
