[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

I am having issues when i try to restore the image to an sd card. It will do it but then my sd card says it only has a total of 115 meg and I am not sure everything copied over since it alone is supposed to be 4+ gigs. If I put it in my nook it will boot up into honeycomb or at least it seems to but I cannot go to market place or get to a point to install marketplace on the nook or get anything. I have a class 4 16gb card. Any help would be appreciated.

After pushing the vending and GoogleServices apk, my nook is not booting into honeycomb anymore. It's stuck with Android displayed in the bottom left corner. Can anyone help.

I've tried reformatting my sd card and reimaging it. The nook boots into honeycomb until i push the vending and googleservices apks. after that it wont boot anymore.

When you expand the size of the card make sure you expand the last partition (sdcard), not the boot or the other two 666meg ones. I had no issues on my 4 gig card...on my 16 gig class four it performed slow until I lowered the partition to about 5 gig of space. Might be the brand of card but I think it is the huge partition. May I suggest you guys from the few post ahead go to page 108 (post 1078 and 1079) and read the two post by justinps. He gives a good step by step how to get things done.

I pushed the market and google services with no issues so I have seen the instructions work, am new to this but somehow have managed enough reading to figure it out. It's a learning experience for sure. Don't worry about seeing anything in MY COMPUTER...it seems to mean nothing. The best way to get files on and off the device when you get to that is WEBSHARE (lite is FREE) I suggest you read the instructions...took me a few to realize once your device folders are shown in the browser you open the folder you want to upload the file into, right click in the window then select upload file then browse your computer to the file...the free version allows one file at a time. I'm sticking to free until the final version of honeycomb comes out then I'm not looking back....there is also dropbox but it's way more work.

Look a few post up where I said to read two post from another person. I gave the post numbers and the page it's on. if you burnt the image to the disc and put it in your nook and it booted to HC..you still have work to do. first you need to make the fourth partition on nthe card bigger, basically use the rest of the 4 gig if that's the size card you have. it can be done with a free program EASEUS partition... then you need to download the combo file EASYEDB referenced in the post your need to locate. That will install the file ABD that you are looking for. Once that is done you might have to get the driver to update in device manager (windows). then you need to download two more files for the marketplac and put the in your platform tools folder (where adb.exe is)then from the platform tools folder you'll need to do some dos type commands in a doc prompot window with you nook plugged in to push the vender and google files to the nook. once yopu type in the last line which is reboot the nook will reboot. at which time you will have a marketplace icon so you can get to the market place...WHAT SIZE CARD ARE YOU USING. I've got two 4 gig class 4 cards working perfect but i've got a 16 gig class 4 that simply refuses to work gives me errors and is slow...I've started over with that card 4 times and never get it to work. I just did a full long format on it and will try one last time before I give up. You will like what you get in the end...now go read my post three up and then find post 1078 and 1079...it is very detailed. Believe me, I was as confused as you two days ago. you may or may not see a boot partition in my computer, don't worry about it.

I have actually progressed rather well, considering my limited programming experience, but I am now stuck on step 4.

"4. Open a command prompt in that folder, and issue the following commands:

adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system

I get an error: device not found.

I have using SDK and it does not show the device either.

Any ideas?

To the guys here who have done this well and have the whole thing (3.0, market, etc.) running smoothly. Are any of you willing to preload and sell the microSD cards so guys like me don't need to go through all of the mess? I am kinda technical...but so far I have not looked at one thread with a post that really spells this out in very easy to follow instructions of the best way to do it. I am a grown man, father of 2 kids and don't have the time to research and mess with this...but I still want it done.

I would like to be able to put HC on my nook color using the SD card method, on a 16G card with it partitioned so I have the extra 10G available to use for storage.

Can someone help with this or point me to a thread or website that has "very easy to read instructions" on how to do this correctly?

Thank you all and I am sorry if this request angers anybody...

Respectfully,

did you load tha adb driver for the nook. If you are using windows look in the device manager and see if you have nook with a yellow ! mark. If the driver is the you;ll have an entry for android and android composite. I used easyadb file which installed enough of the sdk and the drivers needed. I had to go into device manager and tell it to look into the drivers folder of that program and it loaded the right driver and I was up and running.

For weeks I've been stumped on the basic HC install to an 8gb sd card via my MacBook Pro. I accomplished the task fairly quickly using Windows/Bootcamp, but it kept nagging me that I couldn't do it in OSX. I'd follow the directions flawlessly yet when I entered
dd if=nookhoney04.img of=/dev/rdisk# bs=1m into terminal I kept getting "file not found" or doesn't exist, in any case dead end.
Well what I did get it to work (finally, after at least 50 tries) was instead of typing in nookhoney04.img I typed in dd= then I located it where I had unzipped it and just dragged it into terminal and then finished up by typing of=/dev/rdisk# bs=1m, hit return, small rectangle appeared, (with no discouraging words) and about 4 minutes terminal told me the files had been transferred.
Hope this helps.

fetterjohn...I sent you a private message with my email address. I will try to help you get your card made...it's better to have the programs on your computer than just a card. It's not as difficult as it seems.

ANDROID_

So I downloaded the image and put it on a 16gb card via WinImage(administrator).

Comes up with 110mb/115mb on the card after that image is written.

Eject the card and put it into my Nook (stock) and it boots and sits at the loading screen for 10+ minutes without any luck.

It says A N D R O I D _ and blinks the cursor at the end. Nothing else.

I tried this when I was on 2.1 rooted and thought maybe it's because I rooted/did something to modify how it would load the system.

Now restored to 1.0.0 and still same results. I've burned it to the memory card twice to ensure that it burned correctly.

Both same results.

Anyone with any suggestions is appreciated.

THX.

The exact same thing happened to me and my nookcolor was at the same point, Autonooted 2.1.

What brand card are you using and class? I tried a 16 gb Kingston class 4 and it took a long time to boot ( not 10 mins) but it was incredibly slow and gave me many errors because of it's slow speed and timeout issues. I used two different (sandisk and PNY) 4gb class four and they worked great. Get a 4 gb card and give it a try to verify it's not just the card.

Slow but using PNY 8Gb card

Hello,

Same issue on my side.
I followed the workflow s described, burned the img on an 8Gb PNY card.
"android" is blinking and so far nothing happened. Its doing this now for about 3-4 minutes. I'll wait a little longer to see what happens.

10 -15 minutes later:
Still blinking, hmmmmmmmmmmmm now what??
By the way, I also used winimage. Can that be a/the cause? Wrong version perhaps?

Any idea is appreciated.

can we watch videos on honeycomb yet?
HC worked great for videos.
The SD version was easy to accomplish.

I tried to send a PM requesting help getting the market loaded but was told I have 0 posts. I'm sure I posted to Color Nook and to Moto Atrix.
None of the posts remain available for search so I'm starting from scratch.
