[How-to] Guide to Rooting with software version LS670ZVC

ok so im thinking here ........

take update.zip from v8 or v9 (preferably v9) and do the following:
Replace the meta data with the meta data from VC, Replace the build.prop.p with the one from VC, and the radio with VC. Wondering if that would result in the recovery thinking your flashing VC over VC, which it might be more inclined to do then rolling back but in reality ... it's rolling you back but you're keeping the VC radio.

Or make an update.zip for VC BUT the recovery is replaced by V9 recovery image so when you flash everything is VC except recovery which is V9 which is more hacker friendly.

Of course, neither option would work if the VC recovery is unwilling to flash a VC update.zip overtop of it's self. My preference though would be a roll back to V9 while keeping VC radio though cause then then Z4 would work.

If I were to venture a guess, I would have to bet on the VC recovery unwilling to flash the update.zip on top of itself. It's worth a shot, but that's just my personal guess.

EDIT: Hold the phone. The reason the instructions say to flash the V8_to_V9 update.zip is to trick the recovery kernel into mounting /system. Are we talking about the same update.zip here?

Yes, the reason it errors out during zifies process is because of the meta data and the build prop. With that in mind, see my suggestion above. Eliminate the cause of the error and it might update over top of itsself.

Would Z4root work with this? If it doesn't then are they ever going to release a 1 touch rooting program like Z4root?

The problem is it does a sha1 hash on both the .p and the file to be patched. check the updater-script :(

I have an Optimus S From December 6th 12th or some thing around there.

And i'm sure it came with V9 on it. its rooted via z4root.

1) do i have to use the LGMobile update tool ?

2)and the V8_to_V9 update zip ?

If it came with V9?

Also does the VC update brake the HotSpot widget by Harald Muller?

I'am Confused as what to do with the phone that came with V9

A little clarification

Yes, you need to use the LG Mobile Update Tool, and the V8 to V9 update zip (this only tricks the recovery into mounting /system).

Some have reported success letting the Update Tool flash the new radio and rom over their custom recovery, but I reverted back to stock everything, using this thread, so I can only advise accordingly.

Just follow the directions from the OP to gain access by exploiting the recovery kernel, after your phone has been updated to VC.

Props to zefie, whom originally brought the community the directions.

Then it is up to you, custom recovery, etc. Although, there is only one custom ROM currently available for the phone after updating to VC (VCRom, I would suggest Version 006, and one of the many build props found here).

thanks for all the hard work guys, worked perfectly. Appreciate the easy to follow directions :)

Like zman519 I have a stock Optimus S with V9 that was rooted via z4root. No other customizations were applied to the phone. I want to upgrade this phone to VC and then obtain root access. I understand that I have to use the LGMobile update tool to apply the VC update, but do I have to go through the steps in zeflie's "how-unroot-your-phone-return-stock" thread to restore V8, upgrade to V9 and then upgrade to VC?
Can I just use the LGMobile update tool to apply the VC update on a stock V9 then follow the instructions on the first post of this thread to obtain root access?

So I am awaiting the UPS guy to drop my replacement S off to me. I know what to do if it has the V9 software on it, if it comes with LS670ZVC on it already can I root it by rolling back to V9 or am I stuck at stock until a new method comes out? If I can do I follow what is in this thread? Not having fastboot or S-OFF is new to me. Things are a bit diff than good ol HTC phone :) I just dont want to be back at the sprint store today with another brick, lmao!

Thanks

If it comes with the VC update then you are basically assed out. It doesn't appear there is a way to roll back to V9 quite yet so we're basically stuck waiting for a new rooting method or a way to roll back.

Is the rolling back process causing bricks, or just not working?
