How to Root

Your updated utility/procedure in post #1 is about as easy as it can get. Thanks for sharing.

Thats not true, now its even easier literally you click one time, wait for it to go then hit enter and then it asks you if you want to restart your phone cuz its been rooted!

So is there a quicker/easier way for mac now too? I still haven't gone through with rooting yet, so if there is a quicker way, that would make things easier

I would be willing to make it but please realize I do not use a mac because I do not like to spend money on a wanna be linux computer. ;) You would need to email me adb file from a mac and then go into terminal and type help and copy and paste it into the email. Most of it should be the same from linux but I want to make sure since I have never used one. If you don't wanna do that then you should just follow Cory's method

Step #2 download is not working for me. Is it just me? <<< nevermind, found it at the bottom of the first post, still curious about 32 bit>>>

Also, id just like to confirm for Step#1. Is 32 or 64 bit referring to my version of windows?

You don't. I made them seperate because if you for some reason got stuck at ./rage.bin you could run part 2 without having to run part1 and same thing with part3 versus part2. If everything went ok without errors then you dont have to run anything.

Lol, well awesome. What's next? Waving your hand once over the phone and having it root itself?

So this is my first rooting, i get all the way to the part with

cd /system/xbin
cat /sdcard/su > .
cat /sdcard/busybox > .
chmod 4755 su
chmod 4755 busybox

when i do cat, it says . is a directory
and according to your same post on a different forum someone suggests cp, i try that and it says CP: not found

Im sure its a user error, any advice?

*edit* cat /sdcard/su > su
seemed to work, same with busybox

*2nd edit* well i seemed to have messed up the superuser.apk part now, when i go to apps in my phone, it has the superuser icon, i click it, and it goes to a black screen... im trying to uninstall it now with the uninstall command and it is giving me 'Failure' message, i try the reinstall command and i get 'INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICENT_STORAGE'

and To Phyziks, all i did was make sure it was on data usb settings not media, i installed the drivers for my phone and turned on debugging mode. are you getting anything to list when you do 'adb devices' ?

these are the exact commands!!!

adb push su /sdcard/su
adb push rage.bin /data/local/tmp/rage.bin
adb push busybox /sdcard/busybox
adb shell
cd /data/local/tmp
chmod 0755 rage.bin
./rage.bin

wait?.
when it brings you back to your original shell or windows cmd promt

adb shell
mount -t rfs -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl9 /system
cd /system/xbin
cat /sdcard/su > su.
cat /sdcard/busybox > busybox.
chmod 4755 su
chmod 4755 busybox
exit
adb install Superuser.apk

what is the lag fix

again mucho apologies for the ignorance but what is the lag fix and why would i want it?

thank you so much.. i have been studying this thread for the past 2 nights after work.... this latest tutorial is perfect for the average joe like myself to be able to root this phone!

one click root

About to exploit your device <return>
displays up to
[*] adb connection will be reset. restart adb server on desktop and re-login.

-- nothing happens after this point?--
I am running the bat file from command Prompt from within Win 7.

pause in one click root

I found out there was a conflict with "Lookout Antivirus Security" app. Uninstalled it and proceeded all the way through the third part to finish! Please check if you have installed an app that prevents external control.

the instruction in the beginning of this thread says not to mount the sd card. Does that mean I need to physically pull the sd card out of the phone or just not mounting it to the pc/laptop you're connected to?
