HOW TO: Stay stock and get rid of the bloat

Just looking for a go or no go on some apps....

Friend Feed
Footprints & widget
Location Picker
Nova
Peep
Qik
Quickoffice
Sprint Nav
Stocks & widget
Swype keyboard
Talk

That was a little more then a few, but any help is greatly appreciated!

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I pay Sprint an extra $7/month for TEP. Now that I've deleted these apps, should I cancel TEP? Or is there an easy way to reverse these changes if need be?

Now that I think about what I just said, I feel like an idiot. I backed up all these apps before I deleted them, so I could just restore them, then uninstall Z4 and Titanium. Sorry about the stupid question, haha.

What about Latitude? Is that a safe uninstall?

Yeah latitude should be fine, and you can use an ruu to go back to stock before you turn it in anyways.

That's why I say use rootexplorer and delete em, to gain space. You can reinstall them if you need em.

All those should be good to delete.

So REMOVING with Titanium did NOT gain space???

... using Rootexplorer for the rest of my removals...

Accept I don't know how to use RE for my removals... where do I find the app as a whole to remove it?

Navigate to system>app then mount as read/write. Youre free to delete.

WOW, I just love not seeing them popping up or getting in the way anymore...IT'S AWESOME!!!

Yeah, now imagine full root. Its about 10x as nice.

Quick question. If I use the temporary root and buy the full version of Titanium Pro then do a full backup. Will I be able to do a factory reset, reinstall z4root and Titanium Pro and then be able to put my phone back to the exact way it was before the reset?

I remember how important that was with my old Palm Treo's. I would like to find a simple way to do that with my EVO.

Funny thing is I have the technical skills to root the phone but I don't have the time to keep up with all the reading that is required to reflash roms when updates come out. I took a job promotion that just takes too much of my free time.

It should work yes, but you can't no for sure until somebody does it ya know.;)

Yeah, its really not that much work. A 5 minute download every couple of weeks, but I understand what you mean about time crunch. If you ever decide to root ill (or somebody else) will be here.

This worked perfectly for me to remove Nova, Blockbuster, NASCAR.

Thanks!!!!

This is great.. Can I install apps that requiere superuser and use them? Like Teathering, etc?

@igotsanevo4G,

I have an Evo4G -HBOOT-2.10.0001. I downloaded and installed Z4Root (v.1.3) and Titanium Backup. I did a temporary root with Z4 and at the end of the process it said that I had temporary root. Looking into the "App" drawer I saw that there was a "Su" app installed. I subsequently opened Titanium Backup (free version) and it warned that the device was not rooted.
I have rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled Z4Root and got the same result. Can you please advise?
Thanks

I cannot explain what the issue is, though I admit that I had a similar problem but rebooting seemed to fix it. Z4 didn't work every time, it usually needed a fresh reboot to get the temporary root to work best.

Perhaps the best advice is to go full root as I have since done, but I understand if that isn't an option for you right now.

Champion3, the OP... Thank you for your swift reply. When I came across your thread, I said, "That's exactly what I'm trying to do!" No anxiety, no work arounds, just a simple click to begin to remove the bloatware. But, alas, it hasn't worked that way so far. I've searched the Z4 thread at XDA for an answer, but, I've not come come across any yet. I'll give it another shot.
Thanks
p.s: Z4 didn't install "BusyBox" either.

Champion3,

After rebooting, I did a Z4Root temp. with the same results. No root according to Titanium Backup. Dumb question... do I have to purchase the "Donate" version of Titanium to perhaps get a different result?

Igotsanevo4g,

Thank you for your help. I took this puppy again for a walk around the block. I followed your instructions to the letter and got the same results: Z4-"Temp root applied until next reboot." Titanium Backup - "TB could not acquire root privileges.
