HTC One M9 Review - Onder de motorkap: de 64bit-Snapdragon 810 - Tweakers
The Snapdragon 810 is produced like its predecessor in the factories of TSMC, but on the new 20nm-process instead of the now somewhat outdated 28nm process. Those smaller feature size means that transistors can be placed closer together, making the final chips are smaller. Thanks to the reduction can also be the voltage down, which reduces the power consumption and the chip must be less warm.

That is the theory, but in practice it is in the case of the One M9 otherwise. The Snapdragon 810 makes it clear to be quite warm. When running benchmarks, but also in playing an intense game, the aluminum body heats up considerably.

The One M8 was during the test just under 40 degrees. That is palpable, but not uncomfortable. The One M9 was the same load as much as 55.4 degrees. That is a fundamental difference and after the turning of the test was the M9 so hot that it was uncomfortable to hold him.

Did they use the final software? If yes, why there are no reviews from TheVerge, Engadget and Pocketnow?

I'll wait for something to read in English before I get too exited. The infrared pictures had me questioning the review as well. The phone is aluminum and would therefore pull the heat from the internals more readily than a plastic or glass body phone. An exterior infrared temperature reading will of course be higher. The body acts as a large heat sync. I would be more concerned as to how those other phones were dissipating the heat.

No they don't have the final software. No one does.

I wouldn't blame the overheating on the phone itself, I'd probably put the blame on Qualcomm's chip. Their chips do have a history for overheating

At the very end of the review:

HTC stressed that the one we tested is not completely identical to the model that will be located in stores and that there is little problems may occur. The company indicates that the currently working on optimizations in the software before the device reaches the store shelves. It does not seem likely that the heat production at the last minute dammed still strongly, which is elected for a better screen or the camera quality goes up. Should that be the case, we will update this review.

I get the feeling you are very pro Samsung at this point... however, I have to agree with you, what can they possibly do to prevent overheating that doesn't slow down the performance?

While I do like Samsung, I don't bash other phones. I am pretty objective

I don't want to point out the obvious about those thermal images and their corresponding measurements.....but ummm 131℉. Desktop CPUs (different architecture I know) hitting those temps being air cooled is about the normal operating range. As to how it this CPU manages to hit that temp at that power draw level is amazing. Also to note that the 810 is actually running hotter than 131℉ IF those measurements refer to the external shell temps (since it would be dissipating the internal temps).

The review notes at the end that they are not using the final software and that HTC wanted to stress they are still optimizing it before launch. It also says the model 'is not identical' to the one going on store shelves, not sure of that is in regards to software or hardware or just a google translation thing.

I find it hard to believe that HTC would release an M9 that could get that hot. 55.4C is 131 degrees Fahrenheit. That's insane for even heavy use, well, heavy use on a phone anyway. The M9 may not have moved all that much ahead from the M8, but few people could deny that HTC does not know how to make a solid flagship phone. If anything I'm sure they could throttle down the 810 and still get have a smooth phone; HTC has gotten pretty good at software the past few years after all.

As to not get accused of calling you out, if one were to query the topics you start in the HTC forums, since the release of the S3 and the negative tone of the article then it would be very easy to form a conclusion. However I'm sure you're just a tech enthusiasts who just likes to discuss and contribute as much as possible. It's good to have open minded people free of bias and agenda in the community. Your efforts are much appreciated.

Its understandable. I don't mean to bash other phones. I could tell u a lot of things I hate about Samsung. The S5 battery life was horrendous to me, which is why I currently have the Xperia Z3 now. I try to be as objective as I can when posting things. Any form of bias or negativity is unintentional and I apologize it if comes out that way

I refuse to pay a premium for a processor for it just to be throttled

Understandable. The sad thing is, unless you are Samsung, you're pretty much stuck with Snapdragon if you want a well known processor in your phone.

No no, actually I'm hoping that you do post less than optimistic post. There is value to be had in looking at things from a different perspective. If a device has flaws or a person had a bad opinion, I think it's a good thing. The more info (both good and bad) available to help a potential owner make the best decision for their needs, then the better. Don't ever apologize, you don't owe that to anyone. The bad has to be taken right along with the good. In the case of this article, this is definitely a need to know in my opinion.
