[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

@Dodger70 just told me his second order was changed to 2gb.
Can he post screen shots? if not he is an anonymous poster on the internet with only 2 posts. Who knows who he is, whether he is telling the truth and if he is, whether he did it right.

Too many people have done this and had it work for me to believe a 2 post poster who doesn't provide screen shots. Even if you do provide screen shots, if you turn the phone on by accident when you get it out of the box before you have taken the SIM card it shipped with out, you will lose your UDP so if he inadvertently did that, the screen shots wouldn't show it. Also if you call Verizon and involve them, they will switch you off of UDP and the screen shots will not show that either.

Anyone can post anything on the internet. I can tell you it makes Verizon employees furious that this works and I can tell you that there are Verizon employees reading and posting here. Anyone can set up an account here and make any claim they want. Show me the screen shots and you have more credibility. But even then, if you do something stupid like turn the phone on by accident with the SIM card in it that it shipped with or moronically call Verizon to get them to activate your phone, you would lose UDP despite having done everything else right.

He's my brother. After ordering, he received a call from BB. He will post in a bit.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Hate to hear that, was getting ready to order either LG G2 or HTC one.
Hear what? Who the hell knows who this 2 post poster is. My guess - a Verizon employee or someone who is pissed off they gave up their unlimited data plan before they found this thread and are mad other people are getting to keep their UDP and get subsidized phones to boot. I can tell you there is 1 long time poster here who is just that - furious he gave up his UDP because he didn't know about this trick. And he has a melt down anytime you question his bs about how happy he is now on his new plan, lol!

What is so strange to me is that you would believe a 2 post poster who didn't even post screen shots of his results, but supposedly PM'ed some other poster about his results. LOL! I may have been born at night but it wasn't last night.

OK, well that is different if you know him IRL. What prompted the call from BB? I have never received a call from BB about an order.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

It's the Razr Maxx (original). Yes, I already have the sim card and it's the same size as the one in the Note 3. I didn't realize you could activate it just by turning it on. Like I said, I really failed when I did the process. I thought the phone still had to be activated through the 800 number provided, and didn't realize it was as simple as popping the card in and turning it on. If everything goes as planned, I will be retrying this method. Fingers crossed they don't fix it in the meantime. :D

Keep us posted.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

Keep us posted.

Will do. Verizon put me back on unlimited, and I reordered the Note 3 on Friday. I was going to wait a bit to order it, but noticed that Verizon raised the price of the Note 3 from $199.99 to $299.99 and figured Best Buy would be doing the same thing. I checked today and Best Buy did raise it to $249.99.

My contract date has extended again and the Note 3 has been assigned to my account. I'm seeing in another thread that Best Buy called someone and changed their plan. Here's to hoping they don't do this to me! It should ship tomorrow or Tuesday. I will keep everyone posted as to what happens, but I think it will all go smoothly. :)

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Why? They have never called me once about an order. They just spontaneously called him?

Ok I got some clarification, if I am incorrect, Dodger70 can further explain.

So he purchased his second phone with a different credit card, not his name, and this prompted BB to call him to verify the order. After the call, he received an email that he need to call BB regarding his order in which he did immediately. After speaking with a different BB rep, there was no indication that there was something wrong with the order so the BB called Verizon just to verify. This is what prompted my brother to check his account and he noticed the 2nd line went from UDP to 2GB.

No I'm no Verizon employee I actually work for a cemetery, anyways I placed an order for my wife's phone on Friday after mine went though without a glitch(no pun intended) but I got a call from bb stating that they need to verify my order because of my master card. All because I purchased my phone using my bros bb card and a few days later I placed an order for my wife's phone using my MasterCard. I gave them the info they wanted and apparently the matter was resolved.

Then I get an email saying I need to call bb mobile within 48 or my order was going to be cancelled. So I called and told them that I had already spoke to a validation rep about the issue. She said my order looked correct but couldn't be processed for some reason so she put me on hold to check. I was on hold for 15 min then when she got back she said she had contacted Verizon and was able to get my order processed.

So immediately after the call I checked my vzw account and noticed they had changed my wife's plan to a 2 gb plan and mine still had UDP. So I realized that the problem was when bb called Big Red.

So I plan on returning the phone getting back my UDP and trying again.

BB called Verizon just to verify. .
yep, any time Verizon is involved, you can kiss your UDP goodbye. For future reference, cancel the order if anyone from Best Buy or Verizon calls you about it.

I believe you, I didn't know you were some other poster's brother.

Gah, the kiss of death to your UDP - Verizon got involved.

Thanks for letting us know. Sorry this happened to you. It's a heads-up for everyone else. If you get a call from Best Buy, cancel the order. Better to start fresh than for them to call Verizon.

The only upside is that my wife's line usually only uses 4gb of data a month so they have to give me the max 6gb at least if we lose UDP. Also my note3 gets delivered tomorrow.

I would not even open your wife's box. I would take it back to best buy unopened.

man, I must have really mistimed mine cause I paid $300 for my Note 3 at BB

Re: Can't seem to purchase a phone at BestBuy.com

yes, that would work IF you can get the GNex's old micro SIM card to reactivate. Verizon supposedly will permanently deactivate a SIM card if it hasn't been active in awhile. I don't know if this is true or not, but it is what the reps say. Even if it is true, go ahead and try to reactivate the GNex on the line. Then if the SIM card is too old to reactivate, go to your verizon corporate store and tell them you want to put the GNex back on the line but its SIM card isn't working and they will give you a new SIM card to use. Then use it and get it active. Then you can use the GNex SIM card when the GS4 comes.

Or call and have a new micro SIM card mailed to you. Just tell them you tried the old SIM card and it wouldn't activate. They will mail you a new one.

The GNex SIM cards had NFC chips in them. So do the new SIM cards, but now the new ones have secure element NFC chips on them for Isis wallet to work.

Knock on wood, everything appears to have worked. Activated the Galaxy Nexus this morning, despite the broken screen, with the spare Sim card. Once it was up and running, turned it off, and put the Sim in the Galaxy S4. Verizon website shows S4 as current phone, and still unlimited data. Hoping it stays that way. Thanks for the trouble to walk me through it.

The first time I bought the phone it was $299.99 (15/02/2014) plus tax and came to $320.xx. At the same time it was $199.99 on Verizon, but I wanted to be able to keep my unlimited data so I figured the $100 trade off was whatever. Not even 12 hours later on the following day I noticed the price was lowered to $199.99 (sale) on Best Buy. I called and they credited me back the difference including tax the day it shipped out to me.

It looks like they've changed the pricing on the Note 3 on each site a few times since it's been released. So yeah, I guess it's all in the timing. :)
