[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Is it possible for me to remove the data plan from the dumbphone line without me activating the G3 on another line?
as it works now, if you never activate the smartphone on the dumbphone line, the data plan never appears on the line. However, you will be stuck with a pending activation on the line that will prevent you from making changes to your account until it either falls off on its own or you have it removed.

See this post

I guess that would mean that the first person to activate the phone would be the one buying it on eBay. Would that be a problem? I'd like to not have to open the box and activate the G3 if possible (other than to remove the pre-installed SIM).
It's not a problem as long as you remove the SIM card other than the potential for a pending activation remaining on your line. But those either fall off on their own or you can call and get those removed as of now. Not sure if that will be the case after 8/24/14.

Re: Verizon How to Both Get a Subsidized Phone and Keep Unlimited Data after 8/24/14

Hi guys,

Been lurking on here for awhile and love how helpful the community is. It's now time for me to use a transfer from my eligible UDP line to get a subsidized phone without losing my UDP. However, I called into VZN customer service today just to confirm that I can transfer the upgrade from my UPD to my tiered 4GB line in order to supposedly upgrade that line and I asked if it would affect my UDP?

The answer: HOLY CRAP! The service representative told me that it in fact would end my UDP service if I were to do this. WTF?! This goes contrary to everything I have read here and I plan to call them back without letting them see my account specifics and see if I get the same answer. It probably doesn't help that I am a heavy data user, and this is perhaps what prompted the answer? Either way, how would they even surmise that I wouldn't just leave it on my other tiered smartphone line?!

Anyone else receive this same bs lately?

That's what they get paid for. Its not in vzw best interest to have informed customers. That's why there are sites like this.

Re: 4 UDPs on Family Plan in different parts of the country

OK I need a little more help. I went by VRZ store and they gave me a blank nano sim. I have ordered an adapter for it so that I can place the new nano in adapter in my Rezound for activation. Everything I have read says call verizon to activate new sim card. Should I do this or are there other actions I should take? Once I get the new sim activated I will order my new phone from best buy!!!

Re: Verizon How to Both Get a Subsidized Phone and Keep Unlimited Data after 8/24/14

So in essence, you're saying I won't get a straight answer from them?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

After some issue getting the phone (kept missing the delivery man from UPS!) I got my phone. First thing I did, removed the pre-installed SIM card. Stared at it for a moment, debating the best way to destroy or remove it (any suggestions?) Took my old SIM card that I use with UDP. Slipped that baby in. Put battery in, held my breath, and turned on the device. Went through the prompts to turn the phone on. Did a test call, went through fine. Checked Verizon Wireless. Data plan status: UNLIMITED

BWAHAHAHA! It worked! So far.... I'll be keeping an eye on this for the near future to make sure there's no changes in the data plan, but *knock on wood* it's looking pretty good so far. BTW, I upgraded from a Motorola Droid Razr (the first one, not the Maxx). Got the Samsung Galaxy S5. Thanks again for the help everyone, and shortwave for confirming my plan.

I'll post if something goes wrong and need help (say if I lose my data plan to a mere 2GB).

You just did this, like within the last couple of days? Im on BB website now getting ready to pull the trigger and its asking me to confirm my VZW account info, is that the regular process? Thanks in advance. BTW Its not giving me the option to ship the white or charcoal GS5, just the copper/gold one.

edit: Is sending my info to the carrier also a normal step in the process that you went through?

The Verizon CSR is misinformed or lying. If you look through the threads they've been telling people that for the past 2 years and we know it's not true so I'm thinking they're lying. The ones in the store are especially deceitful.

UPDATE: Yeah, I just got off the phone with a different CSR and I didn't input my phone number and I declined giving it. I asked very frankly, and this CSR seemed more amenable to leveling with me, perhaps because it was a call that didn't need to be notated, and let me know that my UDP wouldn't indeed NOT BE CANCELLED if I did a upgrade transfer. Sorry if my post was alarmist.

Yup, lots of liars when they know they can get perhaps get you off the plan if they misinform you and then cancel the UDP themselves. I read somewhere that they are receiving compensation if they get people off the UDP plans - anyone know if this is accurate?

They are the plague! Avoid at any cost

Do you know what I would ask for to get the pending activation removed? I called Verizon and they didn't know what I meant. They just assured me that there was no data plan on my dumbphone line but did not understand about the pending activation. Can I see that somewhere on my account? Is it only something they can see on their end? Thanks :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I need help!
Line 1 = 2G data plan (NOT due for discount upgrade)
Line 2 = Unlimited data plan (due for upgrade)
Line 3 = dump phone (due for upgrade)
I don't want to mess with my Unlimited data plan (Line 2) so I transferred the upgrade from Line 3 to Line 1 and used Line 1 to purchase a S5. My plan is to use S5 for Line 2. Now, Line 3 shows "Device needs to be activated".

What should I do when I recipe the new S5? If

I continue to keep Line 3 as a dump phone? and

Use the new S5 for Line 2 without messing with Unlimited Data Plan?
Thanks!

You didn't have to transfer the upgrade from line 3 to line 1 since line 3 doesn't have UDP on it. You could have just upgraded it

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a stupid question. I have read through a lot of this thread. I have the dumb phone with the upgrade. When I get it, I have to activate the G3 on that line, right? Through *228 out whatever. Then I just pop the Sim out and put my Sim in that phone, right? Then I have to call Verizon to activate the old dumb phone?

Or, can I just put my Sim in the G3 and call it good?

I'm concerned when I call Verizon to activate the dumb phone back they'll call me on this.

Please let me know.

Thanks!!

Call you on what? You aren't doing any trick or loophole. You are only upgrading a basic line. You don't have to call *228. That's only for 3G phones or basic phones. Yes you can just activate the g3 on the line you upgraded on. Then call verizon to put back the basic line and your g3 will be free to use elsewhere.

That is fine, yes. What is unclear is what will happen if you do that after 8/24, or perhaps more importantly, if you upgrade but DO NOT activate the phone on the line you upgraded, after said date.

Yeah when I called Verizon Monday, the guy I talked to said it couldn't be done. He was pretty cool, I even showed him the droid life article saying this could still happen until August 24. He said they can't do it anymore, then clearly upon further reading I found this method.

Thanks for the response.

No need to call to talk to reps. Do it yourself online. It can be done now or after August 24. The only difference is that after that date the data plan on the basic/tiered line has to stay on for the full 2 years.

So I can upgrade and just put my Sim in? I don't have to activate on that line first?
