[KERNEL][GB] GingerKernel v08.1 (OC) DOUBLE-TAPPING BUG FIXED!!!

Re: [KERNEL][GB/CM7] GingerKernel v06.1 (OC)

Does this kernel include the tun.ko module? It doesn't appear to be listed under system/lib/modules and I really need it. I've tried loading the module individually but I've never had luck going that route. In the past I just installed the xionia kernel which included it and my vpn app worked fine. Any chance of getting it included? Or if someone knows the proper way to install the module individually I'm all ears because pushing tun.ko to /system/lib/modules/ and then running "insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko" errors and when I type "lsmod" it just echoes the command and from what I understand its supposed to show the modules currently running.

No it does not include the TUN module. I'll enable it in v06.2. You can't just push in kernel modules like that, the module has to match the running kernel.

Well you might wanna update because.......

[NOTE]GingerKernel v06.2 Release:
GingerKernel v06.2 has been released. Only 3 modifications for this one. We now have the Scary and SavagedZen governors available as well as the new TUN kernel module, useful for things like OpenVPN.

Also new is the InteractiveX governor is now set by default.

Hit up the first post for the download and changelog.

Videos still don't play!

What ROM, and what type of videos?

EDIT: Judging by your postbit, you're running CM7. There are many issues with using CM7 and this kernel right now, and therefore this kernel is no longer certified for use with any CyanogenMod ROM.

Bug reports that are not from an LG-based ROM will be ignored.

All videos! And cm7 (the kravens). Everything else is fine with this version.

Okay, just updated to v6.2. Now tell me, why interactivex vs smartass2? When using both former versions of the goveners, smartass was way better on battery saving. Why would you recomend interactivex over smartass2?

Also is any one seeing anying close to cm7 battery life with this on zvh? I am getting like 2/3rds the life i would get on drews cm7, smartass gov. I dont really mind, i can get thru the day no problem with pretty heavy use, but i could get 2 days before if i was just a little conservitive on usage. Granted i am on stock rom, so that is likely a large part ofv the difference.

I'm not actually recommending any governor, InteractiveX is simply set as default. I recommend that you use whatever works best for you.

Re: [KERNEL][GB] GingerKernel v06.2 (OC)

I'm having massive problems with just this kernel. I have the newer LCD.

When I boot, it will lock on the homescreen until I press the "home" button. Unit will stay at max cpu (768/100%) for about 20-25 minutes. It will intermittently mount/umount sd-card. It will intermittently fc whatever app I happen to have open. It will intermittently warm reboot. When I have Navigation open, it will stop showing the route after about 10 minutes (voice is still navigating). If I remove the sd-card, it will still do all of the above but the mount/umount issue (of course).

I have: Removed SetCPU and ran stock settings. Removed all downloaded apps. Reverted back to stock (unrooted) and started over (twice). I have formatted everything in the "mounts and storage" section, including sd-card and sd-ext (and then followed basketthis's instructions to re-reformat and mount/ use the sd-ext) and run the debug-sys before every reflash (I now know my 12 digit network password by heart).

I reverted back to the stock kernel (reflashed opti-rom, then the stock kernel) and haven't had any issues, including sd-card mount/umount. I don't know why this kernel isn't playing well with my phone, but I think it's safe to say that I've removed all other probable causes. When I read thru the issues others are having with this kernel, it appears that it's the people who have the newer LCDs that have the issues.

Re: [KERNEL][GB] GingerKernel v06.2 (OC)

Sorry dont mean to sound like a noob but what's the difference between all the governors and whats the best one. Theres so many out it confuses me. Thanks in advance.

This morning i was playing on the phone. I got the screen shifted to the right bug. Reboot fixed it. Just an fyi

Drew, once again, this kernel is excellent ! As always you hit the mark sir!

Okay I ran on interactivex today overclocked to 748. My battery performance is now more on par with what I was getting on drew's cm7. Love your work drew!!!

Re: [KERNEL][GB] GingerKernel v06.2 (OC)

I used to be able to OC to 864 but that is removed or not available in this kernel. Is it possible to put back in?

Thanks for all your hard work Drew!

Yea. I was the same way. Phone could handle 846 with no problems. I too would love to see that put back in.

Always happy to help, Hit that thanks button if I did

GingerKernel has a maximum overclock of 806 MHz because in my opinion there is absolutely no reason to go any higher, for battery life and device longevity reasons.

Here in a little while I will start a poll on this subject and may unlock the higher frequencies based on the results of said poll. Vote in the poll today!

@Everyone else:
GingerKernel v07 is in testing (running v07pre3 currently)! Please check the commit log at the GitHub repository for a list of changes since v06.2.

Re: [KERNEL][GB] GingerKernel v06.2 (OC)

In other news, the garbled screen bug seems to be back.

<rant>
It's making me mad, it's frustrating and it makes me want to smash my phone against the ground/wall.

It also makes me want to pass off GingerKernel development to another qualified individual.

I'm 99% positive this issue is due to Sprint/LG's uber crappy Gingerbread update, because I can use GingerKernel in CM7 overclocked to 806 all day long and don't get any form of garbled screen.

F you Sprint. F you. If anyone from Sprint Corporate is reading this, PM me for my address so you can send me a new different and working device (Nexus S 4G or EVO 3D preferably) that doesn't do this nonsense.

Um, I experienced the garbled screen issue today on thekraven's 10/6 CM7 build with GingerKernel 6.2. 6.2 made things much better, as I used to experience it all the time before, and ran a day and a half without experiencing it on 6.2.

I hope you don't hand off kernel deving to "someone more qualified," because I'm not sure that person exists (at least for the LS670). Keep up the good work, man, we all really, really appreciate it.
