Cory, you are my last hope. Afraid I've screwed myself. I rooted my Fascinate right after I got it in November when my Treo 650 finally died. Used your method in Terminal on Mac, but I found it in a blog where Sterling Cobb re-posted, but the un-root part was not there. So now that DL30 is out I looked for a way to un-root with little joy, trying to avoid PC - Odin (I'm a Mac guy, IT Admin in Mac shop). Ended up hosing it, tried using recovery mode reset to factory, now it has 2 force close loops, process.android.media and TwLauncher (process.com.sec.andriod.app.twlauncher) that make it unusable. I now suspect that the reset (ran all, apply sdcard:update.zip fails with "E:failed to verify whole-file signature", "E:signature verification failed", "Installation aborted.") knocked out USB debugging mode so can't get Odin, Heimdall, or terminal to connect, and can't get to settings to set USB debugging. I was hoping that something like you describe in post #5 above using update.zip in recovery might save me. Any chance?

Just to clarify: do you or don't you have access to a PC?

Cory, and all you gents that are so great to help out on AC like you do...THANK you! I FINALLY took the plunge and flashed a ROM...THIS one, Froyo. Wow! Easy as anything! Cory, your instructions were foolproof!

Thanks everyone for all you do!!

Guys --
Finally got straightened out! Even though I was stock D09/unrooted, the trick seemed to be flashing D09 first.

A few other things I ended up doing, FWIW:
-- After my SD cards stopped working properly, I tried a mount/unmount on the phone. Once they mounted -- it took a while -- I did a reformatting from the phone. Then, I reformatted them from my desktop using Acronis Disk Director. I loaded ONLY the update and the D30 zips.
-- I did a factory reset AND a wipe cache every time I flashed *anything*
-- I put a fresh battery in (100%), even though the battery I had in was at 65%.

Many thanks to everyone for the tips. Now it's on to restoring everything manually, since the SD problems wiped out my backups... :-(

Wipe data/factory reset worked. Now I need to get my contacts and everything else in order. Thanks again!

Yes, tried there also, installed Samsung drivers. Typing this on my MBP running XP in Parallels VM. Tried here, also in a Win7 VM, from host Mac and from real PC. Thanks for being here. Any hope?

Cory, DroidX, thanks for your help and ideas. Thought for sure I had a $600 new paper wieght. Up and running factory stock DI01. Lost all my settings, but MUCH better than where I was an hour ago. Will be flashing to DJ09 now, then off to DL30! Thanks again, you gave me ideas I never thought would make a difference.

Okay - I love VM's too, but I would use a real PC for this, since you have one. Just download DL09.tar.md5 and flash with ODIN. If you need more specific instructions go here. If this works, proceed to step 2 in post 1. If I misunderstood you, and all you have are VM's, you might be able to do it, but I've never tried using ODIN inside a VM.

No, not a VM, just and old laptop I still had. Since it was the only machince to get Odin to reinstall DI01 back onto my phone, I'll stick with it through the pdate process to DL30. Thanks again for all your wisdom, thoughts, and ideas. Thought for sure I had a paper wieght!

Hm. Anyone having issues with contacts' pictures not showing up in Messaging? The pictures show up in Contacts...

I would like to thank Cory and everyone else for the detailed instructions and the Froyo update. My phone was having alot of problems and needed a clean wipe and start over so might as well update to Froyo. Works much better now. Had to go to post #5 to get out of the force closed loop but all was well after that. Thanks again.

Cory, I just wanted to say thank you very much. This thread of yours literally saved me after trying countless ways to restore my phone back to FroYo. I didn't think it would be as simple as just resending it all via Odin. You've been a world of help, man. Thanks so much.

I got my yahoo account to work with email by using the manual options after I entered the address and password, then I used these settings.
Inbound settings-
Imap server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Port 993
Security ssl
Outbound settings-
Smtp server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port 465
Security ssl (accept all certificates)
Check the require sign in
Thanks to magnumv3 for originally posting this info.

OK, now, again, on hardware XP. Dl'd and followed specific instructs. All goes exactly as expected up to step 9. At this point same old problem: Odin does not see phone, all boxes at top still empty (I've seen the other thread with screenshots showing top 2 boxes should go yellow showing connection info). Went ahead anyway to get Odin Message "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)", same as all previous attempts. Still presume phone went to default on reset leaving USB debugging off and no way to change due to "Force Quit Loops of Bunga Bunga". I see another thread on loops so will read. If you have any ideas I would appreciate. Thanks for all your help.

dz, succeed0/ failed 0 is a connection problem...... Odin problems are usually a communication fault or a corrupt file , but 95% of the time communication...first redownload the odin package you are using...disable any anti-virus,,, use ports in the back of the computer, if you are already using a usb port in the back, switch it to another port as you most likely have more than one... make sure your battery is out of the phone during the entire Odin process.....
there should be only 1 yellow com port shown ,,if there is more than one for lets say a printer that it is connecting, Odin may be flashing onto the printer instead of the phone, so i suggest you remove any devices that may be causing this....if this computer isnt working use another....if you are using a laptop make sure its plugged in,,,but a PC is better to use

I wanted to first and foremost thank you so much, your advice was extremely helpful from this forum, and while i had to wipe my phone after i installed 2.2 (i think i had voodoo downloaded and didnt know it because i got the force close loop) my phone is now working perfectly. One quick question i had, when the actual 2.2 OTA comes, what should i do? will my phone get it, should i update again? my phone is rooted as well. Thanks

First off I would like to thank everyone for the work that they put into getting froyo for the fascinate. It really has been a long time coming! That being said I was wondering if anyone has found a way to get exchange working. I downloaded touchdown but really like the stock exchange server better.
