Let's guess how long our JB official OTA will take!

I will say this for Android version updates: they make the device better and faster, at least in my experience (OG Droid, Thunderbolt, GNex, and Xoom all benefited from version updates). With iOS, it seems like Apple devices slow down and start to feel older than they should when they update. My sister's original iPad and 4th Gen iPod Touch crawl on iOS 5. They leap in specs from two years ago is remarkable, but two years isn't that long. We'll see how iPhone 4 fares on iOS 6.

Have the 4 iOS5 updates been on the same level as ICS ==> JB?

What the hell does that matter? The verizon galaxy nexus didn't get 4.0.3 at all and 4.0.4 was even two months late.

Because if the updates are incremental (4.0.2 ==> 4.0.4) and not massive (4.0.X ==> 4.1.X), then the timing is different--particularly if new baseband/radios are involved. (And they are). Verizon strenuously tests this stuff, hence the multi-week long soak tests.

And 4.0.4 was released ~1 month after the actual version leaked--actually less than that (you can check my post on it). This phone is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. You must not compare it to other phones, even if they share the Galaxy Nexus moniker--different carriers, different devices, different update schedules.

You just made my point, thank you. The "Nexus" name doesn't mean crap. It is just like any other random android phone on any random carrier and is subject to the same ridiculous software update issues as every other android phone.

The updates still pull from Google and unlike the Sprint model, our device is AOSP. Past that, none of what I said should be a shock.

Why do you think the development community is so strong? First, it's a Nexus, so the software and bootloader are very easy to hack. And secondly, because most folks, like myself, get extremely impatient :)

Still, the distinction between minor updates and major updates matters. Plus, comparing the update schedule for an entirely different OS/ecosystem/hardware is a bit...I don't know...misguided at times.

Because when an iPhone update gets released, everyone with an iPhone can ACTUALLY GET IT!

Although I completely agree with your frustration (I'm a VZW Nexus user who desperately would like a JB update) what you're saying is not always true. I used to be an Apple fanatic and many times I ended up using an Apple product that was just out of date enough to get an update. The hardware wouldn't support it, the software wasn't compatible, etc... whatever the reason, there were many times that my iMac or macbook, whatever, didn't get the latest update. I understand that will happen across the board anywhere (Nokia/MS much!) but at least the Nexus will get it and has the hardware to support it. Not necessarily so with the Nokia or many Apple products. Just my opinion.

4.0.3 was never designed for our Nexus and never supposed to be pushed to it. The VZW Nexus has received every update it was supposed to.

4.0.4 took about 2-2.5 months from when VZW started testing it to when it was pushed. Any article that claims it took longer is using misleading information to drum up anger and hits for their site.

There's no reason to believe 4.1.1 will take longer or shorter than that.

Actually, even with iPhone not all iPhones got all updates, Verizon had an update released that AT&T did not. And I think we will see more and more of this as Apple and the iPhone dissolves into more companies and different radios.

My guess for Official Jelly Bean on Verizon GNEX would be not tell mid November.... They will release a 4.1.5 or something dumb to make us feel better about the wait.

This part is not in Verizon's hands. 4.1.1 follows the JRO03* basic build formula... right now aosp is at JRO03L, I believe, while some devices (such as the Nexus 7) are at JRO03D officially, while they are all on 4.1.1. If any tweaks are made for the Verizon Gnex you will likely see it appear as just a different build, ala JRO03M or something like that.. It won't get a higher Android version number.

Let me clarify my post, They will release Jelly Bean when 4.1.2 or 4.1.4 is out and standard, making us feel as if the wait was worth it. It will hit the Google Gnex then the next day Verizon will drop it, then people will feel as if they are up to date and on the latest and forget about the delay it took to actually get JB IMO

I don't know about that. Every time we've "received an update" it's matched up with the latest.

4.0.2? 4.0.2 was the latest official.

4.0.4? 4.0.4 was the latest official.

That is what i'm saying, I don't think we will get 4.1.1 I think by the time we get JB it will be 4.1.2 or 4.1.4 and Google Gnex will get it, then we will. So as you said it will match the latest released , I just think by the time we get it the latest released will be higher.

Isn't this cute..wasn't this phones number one attraction that it got quick updates? This phone is garbage from top to bottom... can't believe I listened to the rabid nerd fan boys and bought this phone last Dec. Still a year + away till I can get a good phone

No, it was direct updates, easy bootloader, and stock software.

To be fair, who cares where the update comes from if you are waiting months on end to get it because of carrier interference anyway?

If you are honestly suggesting that there aren't a lot of people bought this phone with the hope of quick updates, you are delusional.
