Let's guess how long our JB official OTA will take!

Your right it was just a guess which this whole thing is just a guessing game:)

there are educated guesses and then just shots in the dark. Saying the VZW G nex will not get 4.1 for over a year (if ever) is beyond shot in the dark and is complete balderdash.

So, if Samsung is responsible for pushing out the updates. Then they'd be dumb not to do it before the iPhone 5 drops the end of September? If you're Samsung you want your best phones available with JB.. So customers walking into Verizon to see the i5 will also see the nexus and S3 sitting there with the most recent software.

That should piss Apple off some....

Verizon doesn't care. They'll sell phones regardless, so they're in no hurry to push out updates.

Simple answer is it has already been to long. Unless you are on GMS their is no suck device that gets timely updates.

The only advantage that CDMA Nexus's devices have over other devices is once the GSM update is out it is very easily ported to the LTE version and everything just works.

GSM is the way to go google needs to step it up or only sell GSM versions of the nexus line if there going to step up there game like apple when it comes to updates
Easy fix!

Well I disagree here.. I love verizons network and want to be able to run every future Nexus on it (though I do think it is unlikely to happen).

One must also realize how strong Apple's bargaining position was compared to Android. IMHO, the comparisons are moot when put into that context.

One must realize that nobody really cares why they aren't receiving timely updates. They just care that they aren't getting them. If timely updates is the most important issue for someone then they are going to either buy a GSM nexus or an iPhone. The fact is that a huge portion of customers either are totally unaware of updates and delays or just don't give a crap if they ever get them.

I was responding to a user who specifically mentioned Apple and updates. Forgot to use the quote option, my apologies.

And honestly, if they buy the phone "to get updates," then they should absolutely care why they may or may not get them. Being informed about the update process--particularly when it's bandied about as such as a great reason to get a Nexus, etc.--is important IMHO.

Okay, noob question really quickly... what is IMHO? And IMO? :p

Anyway I totally agree with this. I bought my Nexus (on Sprint...) knowing, or hoping, that it would receive the latest OS updates in a somewhat timely manner. As long as JB before my friends with GS3's, I'll be set! :p

IMHO = in my honest (or humble) opinion

IMO = in my opinion

Apple only does 1 or 2 iOS updates a year. That's more timely than the GN which will likely do the same?
Not to get all pissy, either, but I know tons of iPhone users and when an iOS update comes out they don't know about it and/or are in no hurry to grab it.

IOS gets at least four updates a year, depending on if there are issues.

Having been through the Blackberry forums for years before this, I can tell you with BB there were updates constantly from carriers all over the globe that one could download and put on their US carrier's Blackberry. Some were updating weekly, and for the most part it was a waste of time. They'd all claim at first their phone was "faster, smoother, snappier" which became kind of an inside joke. But I never tried all that because all I was interested in were new features (like a BB browser that was worth a hoot lol). I had an HTC with the OS before ICS and this is better, with better menus, and the button that keeps apps alive. But most OS updates are worthless. I can wait for real improvement.

Because when an iPhone update gets released, everyone with an iPhone can ACTUALLY GET IT! That is what makes it a timely update. When android gets updated it is always a crap shoot as to when or if you would actually get it. Hell ICS almost 10 months old and it doesn't even account for 10% of android phones out there. The nexus line used to imply that one would get updates as soon as they were available but that isn't even the case anymore.

IMHO, The simple answer/explanation for why Apple updates better....
They make both the software and the hardware...
Google only makes the software...

At least thats how I see it...

exactually. if you really want updates asap either root or buy a nexus off the playstore.

2012 has had two
Which is plenty. Apple does make the hardware and the software, which of course was Jobs' mantra. There's a reason he did stuff like that. Blackberry did their own software (I think) and did a good job with it. You could put an update from Mexico's Curve on your American Curve right away. Like I said before it usually didn't make a hoot's worth of difference. When my wife updated her iPad to iOS5 it wiped the freaking thing clean.
