LG fans, do you feel betrayed by the V30 rumors?

No removable battery, no secondary display, smallish battery, no sale plus too many trust issues with your bootloops of the past!!

I think the bigger G6 part isn't giving credit to the features the V30 is supposed to have. Yes we're losing some features but for one I think the V30 renders just ooze gorgeous(albeit Samsung-like) design. Also the camera, audio and video features of the V30 are supposed to be absolutely ridiculous for a phone. That's what will set it apart. I happen to love OLED displays as well so that's a win for me. If they choose to keep at least the IR blaster that will be the icing and candles on the cake for me.

I think its going to be great

The V30 is coming soon, what will it need to be successful?

The images are leaked but not the specs exactly. We don't know what it has officially. The G6 was good, however didn't meet sales expectations. List what specs/features/marketing campaign/price it needs in order to be successful (don't mention removal battery or IR blaster because it's gone).

Marketing so that a significant amount of people will care.

I think we have a good idea of what to expect. I think the features as is are OK as long as we don't see geographically gimped models. I say keep it under 800 US and market it's most important features the right way.

Like TV commercials? Will it help? What do they need in their commercials? I know they have a really nice Instagram and Facebook page. I never saw a LG commercial before, just learned about the V20 through YouTube.

I was with Samsung from the very beginning. They really did work hard for it. Their phones had bigger and better screens than the iPhones, plus better features. They also had commercials poking fun at Apple.

Re: The V30 is coming soon, what will it need to be successful?

It looks good in the few photos that are out. Looking like a Samsung device is probably good for LG, since that is what the average consumer looks for if they are not into the iPhone,. LG needs to find a way, however, to make the consumer pull the trigger on the V30 over the S8, S8+ or Note 8. A lower price point would help, but the other things that have always seemed like deal breakers for the average person when comparing the devices in the store, are the screen and the UI. Let's face it, Samsung's screens are great and most other devices look poor when compared to them in the store. Also, and this has always been a problem for me, LG's UI is terrible. It always has been and if they slap the same UI on the V30 as they have on the G6, that will be a problem -- for me for sure and possibly for the average buyer comparing the two in the store. Beyond that, the V30 should also offer water/dust resistance and wireless charging like the Samsungs if they want to make the V30 sell. And, yes, they will need to advertise, but the product is going to have to compete on its own for LG to make any progress in cutting into Samsung's sales. Unfortunately for LG, the iPhone 8 may be the device that pulls people away from looking at the V30 or Samsung.

There's a rumour there WON'T be touch ID at all on the iPhone 8 due to lack of time of trying to get an imbedded FPS. I'm almost certain the phone won't have a FPS on the back because it'll block the big Apple logo (unless they make the Apple logo the FPS). The Note 8 and S9 will have that awkward FPS placement again. The V30 might convince some just 'cause the FPS is more practical.

I agree the UI looks kinda boring with boring looking icons. They should hire an artist to design the UI. Other than that, it's really great and smooth.

V30 glass design... is this the future? or just a fad?

Not going to argue about the design, but will all phones 5-10 years from now be made of all glass uni body? Or is this just a temporary phase? If you look at the past phones (Galaxy S1 and iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 6 and HTC A9, V20 and U Ultra), they look nearly the same. Is everyone trying to blend in and will someone beat the glass design cycle? I'm sure I'll be OK using a glass phone, but it's definitely not what I prefer. Skipped the S6 & S7 because of that, maybe that was a good choice.

Re: V30 glass design... is this the future? or just a fad?

I think I might be done with LG. I'm part of the rugged phones market (Galaxy S Active series, former V10 & V20, any metal phone). However, LG still seems to have the complete package for me so I may come back. But with a sealed back, I now have to choose between several glass or sealed back phones. Phones without headphone jacks are already out of the question so the selection is slimmer. So far, it's going to be either: Unlocked Galaxy S8 Active (extremely durable, 4000mAh battery), OnePlus 5 (dual 21MP camera, metal body), Huawei Mate 9/10 (4000 mAh, metal body). Most likely the Galaxy Active I'll be using in the future.

Beyond that, higher commissions for reps that sell LG.

I won't use a Samsung phone..

There are multiple reasons actually but on the Active is that they are always far far behind in getting any updates.

Here's my thoughts on buying a "ruggedized phone",, Your paying way too much and getting to little for giving up features that should be there...

My thoughts is just stick with your V20 till it craps out then worry about it.

They are going to have to reinvent themselves and to do so inundate TV radio and print with more advertising than Samsung or Apple does.

They have to have commercial air time and tons of it and not just a limited amount of it worldwide to get in front of the people to convince them to buy a LG phone. Not just some cheesey butted commercial a few times a week

They are going to have to allocate the money to do this and do it right.

The phone has to appeal to everyone, not just Samsung and Apple fans which means that it has to offer a better experience overall than either of them.

They have to have the best of everything, not just be ho-hum same-o-same-o.. as all the rest..

If they don't they don't stand a snowballs chance in hades.

Re: The V30 is coming soon, what will it need to be successful?

On the other side of the coin, all they really need to do it enough so they don't lose money on every unit sold.

Re: The V30 is coming soon, what will it need to be successful?

They need to be clear with their message and targeted to their audience. The V series so far seems to be about serious multimedia consumption and content creation. If that's the theme, we need creative pictures and video.

Show us action scenes being shot with this thing. Show a commerical being shot on a V30. Show us a party with a DJ playing tunes from the V30 plugged into a speaker to show off the DAC.

Show us you've picked the best features of the phone to highlight and why going the LG way do certain things is better than Apple and Samsung.

Otherwise, do another soft launch and kvtech about poor sales numbers in the winter and say "let's build hype for the G7 in Las Vegas next year."

They have commercials but often just trying to look cool without highlighting the brand, model, and features making it superior.
