LG G4 AT&T Marshmallow update

Battery life has taken a nosedive in the last few days. Going to give it a few more days to work out because I really dont want to FR but if it doesn't fix itself I will have to.

My battery life has been great, off the charger at 6:30 AM, on the charger at 10:30 PM with 25% battery left. 4.5 hours of screen time and regular use of Spotify over BT throughout the day.

Marshmallow fail.
If battery life falls dramatically after a major OS update, it's generally recommended to perform a factory reset and do a clean setup and App re-installs. Yeah it can be a pain, but it's necessary sometimes. I normally do a factory reset after an Android version update just as a general practice, but I didn't this time as my battery performance has been fine (similar to how it was pre-update).

^^This^^ My battery life has been considerably better with this update, but I flashed using LG's tools using the .TOT before it was released, so it wiped the whole thing. It sucks to wipe everything and have to set it all up again, but I used the LG Backup prior to wiping and did a restore after and have seen no issues.

Was going to wait a few days before checking for the update. Just before I was ready to leave the office early this morning I dropped it on the wireless charger for a few minutes of extra power and it suddenly started applying the update. It must of downloaded it last night when I was on the wifi and wired charger. I wondered why it looked like it was using more battery than usual.

Oh no the "android is upgrading . optimizing app 10 of 145" I hope it completes this time. Last time I saw that screen it stopped around 20 and I had to take it into the repair depot to get a replacement.

Minor post-upgrade annoyances.

It might just be me, but here are a few things post-upgrade that are an annoyance:

I turn off data (wifi and mobile) when I go to bed because app notifications on the phone have a tendancy to wake up my wife. Now, I have to confirm that yes, I really meant to turn off the mobile data, even though video calling, internet, email or other apps that need a data connection won't work without a wifi connection.

I use the built-in messaging app for SMS, but since the update, contact names don't show up in the app. All I see are phone numbers. I did just install Google's Messenger app, and it seems to display the names correctly.

Also, the AT&T label in the far left side of the notification bar is permanently there now. IIRC, it used to show up for a few seconds then disappear, clearing the space for notification icons.

Don't know about your first one, but my sms is working correctly and the AT&T logo has always been there. One thing I noticed is I lost Bluetooth music playback until I made a Bluetooth phone call and then it kicked back in.

My stock messaging App is displaying contact names normally. And yeah, the AT&T label has always been permanently on the notification bar.

After the update, my "share via" menu has changed, adding two rows of messaging contacts at the top - some of which I rarely communicate with. Does anyone know if there's a way to remove these? Not only lyrics that, but if I tap one, it tries to share via the stock messaging app, rather than ChompSMS, which is my default. But I'd like to remove these from the share via menu completely

I also noticed that the phone now lets you crop wallpapers instead of just making them scroll. Thank the tech gods that happened.

That's one of the new features of Android 6.0 is called Direct share. Some app developers have already implemented it, some will in the future. And no, you can't control it. But apart from showing some contacts on the top, the rest is the same below.

I noticed that yesterday and it's quite useful (to me). I'm really enjoying MM on my ATT G4. I find it to be smoother and faster. No decision on battery life yet, however, I'm thinking that it's slightly improved. I have a Nexus 6P, but I always come back to this G4.

My battery life SUCKS bigtime since this update. Getting only about 6 hours or so and it is running HOT all of the time. So far, other than that - and that is a big one - it seems to run smoother.

Any ideas on battery? Really don't want to have to factory reset...hate having to reconfigure everything back to the way I have it.

So far I've only noticed one annoyance. The performance is great otherwise. My notification shade pops back up on its own VERY QUICKLY. So quickly I can't even scroll through all of my notifications.

I wish that they would not force the update. I was doing just great with the old OS. The new one added nothing for me but causes me to redo all the app permissions and the stupid overlay which I don't even know what it is. At least I don't have to do a factory reset yet. And I also have to disable all the AT&T apps again. I had them all disabled and the new update re-enabled all of them.

Gotta buy international unlocked next time. No carrier bloatware installed whatsoever.

anyone notice or use the att video chat built into the phone dialer? I guess you can just call people and hit the video button and if they also have att and a lte connection you can vidoe chat with them using your data minutes.
