LG G4 Battery Life Thread

I'd done the reset/power back on a few times with no change. I'm currently on 35% having unplugged from a full charge at 09:00 (currently 11:20hrs).
It's showing 1.25gb of cached data in the steps you suggested, so I'm about the clear this and re-set. Fingers crossed....

Re: Battery Drain

Well, clearing the cached data was a good shout, and I step I hadn't thought of, HOWEVER having cleared, rebooted and kept an eye on things, battery level is still dropping like a stone.
Oh well, I shall keep trying.
Thanks to you for your suggestions.

Re: Battery Drain

Sometimes the Google apps run rogue. I've had Hangouts and Chrome go wild on me a few times then I disabled both and went with CM Browser. Look in your app manager for the Google stuff and check out how much data is being used...just a thought. Maybe try leaving location off or set to battery saving, it still does a decent job of locating the phone using cell towers but no GPS if you don't always need pinpoint location all the time. Maybe some app is feeding off of the location setting.

Re: Battery Drain

A couple of other things to try.

Reinstall Google Play Services updates:
- Go to Settings >> Application Manager >> scroll over to All, and down to Google Play Services
- Click "Uninstall Updates," click "Yes" to confirm. Manage Space >> delete data in Play Services
- Reboot
- Play Services should auto update (again) to the latest version. To force the update, open Google Maps which opens a notification to update (makes it easier to get to the Play Services update in the Play Store).

Wipe the System Cache (different from the App Cache in Settings):
- Power off the G4
- Simultaneously hold the Power and Volume Down buttons (do not release either)
- The phone will boot past the LG, "Powered by Android" screen in to the Recovery menu (release buttons when in Recovery)
- Use the Volume button to scroll to Wipe Cache and select with Power button (this does not delete any of your data...make sure you wipe Cache and not Data!)
- G4 will wipe cache and reboot fully
[This reportedly doesn't work on the AT&T model of the G4. I don't know if only the AT&T model is disabled. I'm on Verizon and it works fine for me. It also works on Sprint]

- There have been suggestions that powering down the phone while charging, and then rebooting after a full charge, somehow improves battery life. You can try this, but IMO it's only a placebo effect. At best, it's made no difference to my own battery life.

I would think Play Services' battery stats would suggest that it was a problem, but I also know this phone seems to hide issues a lot "better" than previous phones I've had. I endured wild Keep Awake times in Android OS when I first got the phone, and only through frustrating trial and error did I figure out it was a third party app that was otherwise functioning well and not displaying issues in its own battery stats. So, just "trying stuff" seems a necessity sometimes. The Play Services fix has worked for others in the past, but I think they had the red flag of PS being higher than normal in battery stats.

Good luck.

Re: Battery Drain

Option to uninstall updates is greyed out, and it would appear my carrier (EE UK) has disabled access to clear cache that way.....

Play Services updates? Do you have Android Device Manager installed? If so, go to Settings >> Security >> Phone Administrators and uncheck Device Manager. This has taken care of greyed out Uninstall Updates for Play Services on my G4.

Re: Battery Drain

I didn't realise I had device manager installed!! I have removed its permissions as you suggested, and have been able to remove the update to play services.
I've rebooted and installed the update.
I've also turned off location services for good measure.
As of 07:30 my charge is 100%, I'm going to leave my phone alone and see how to battery does.
God speed.....

Re: Battery Drain

On my G3 I have had really high battery drain figures. It turned out that my SD Card is the trouble and my G3 doesn't seem to like them anymore. Without the SD Card it runs fine and with long battery time again.

I also got an app called App & CPU monitor were I can see which apps are running in the background sucking power out of the battery. I found a lot of apps that I haven't used in a while were active in the background. SInce I seldom use them I uninstalled them to get rid of them from the CPU-usage.

Also another app called BatteryDrain can give you figures in more detail about how fast it drains.

Good Luck

Re: horrible battery

LOL. It's not that bad.... Got used to it in a day.

It is that bad. I'm not dismissing extended batteries completely. They certainly have their place. However, needing one for basic day-to-day life is completely unacceptable at this late date.

Did you try a new card? If a card (or a file on the card) gets corrupt, that can increase battery drain, because the system's Media Scanner gets stuck trying to scan a corrupt file.

Re: Battery Drain

DUDE - i have the exact same issue!
everything was perfectly fine until like 3-5 days ago.
the battery is draining like crazy. but really crazy.

Re: Battery Drain

Welcome to Android Central! Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

Re: Battery Drain

How come nobody posts screenshots when literally every thread asks for it to be done to help diagnose the problem?

Re: Battery Drain

Oh, some people do. I always ask for them because it can be quite revealing. But a lot of these threads just aren't followed up by the person who asked the question, probably because they never registered on the forums.

Re: Battery Drain

Right, firstly, apologies for the lack of screenshots.
Secondly, my phone got to 23:00hrs last night and was still showing 68% battery left. This was with my usual usage pattern.
So, a massive improvement. Battery stats showed Android system and play services active, but a very low %. Battery stats was showing an expected further 22hrs of battery at the current usage.
To re cap, this improvement appears to have worked following uninstalling updates to Google Play services, re-installing them, and them re-booting phone. I also turned off location services.
This morning, with battery at 100%, I have turned location services back on, and its set to my normal high accuracy. I'll let you know what effect, if any this has.
A massive thanks to others for their help. At times I can be away from a power source for most of the day, and need to be able to contact wife and kids, and visa versa. As I said, my battery pack thing could only manage to maintain the charge, not add to it!!.
Thanks again.

Screenshots! Some guest posters don't even mention what phone they're using.

Re: horrible battery

This creates more problems than it solves for me. If I wanted a phone the size of my head I would have stayed in the early 1990s.

what year do I need to travel to if I want the phone to be implanted inside my head? 2020, 2045?
