List of Epic Pros and Cons

My unit tends to freeze when I unplug the charger, and I must go the battery pull method to reset. I thought I left that behind with my BB.

Thats the problem l'm having. I think I'm gonna run by the Sprint store tomorrow & see if they are getting a bunch of complaints like this. Other than this, the phone is great. I just don't want to exchange my phone & get one with major problems like everyone elses complaints. My home row is respondimg great with firm presses. My slider is solid.

My navigation has worked perfectly for me. I was a little nervous given the Captivate/Vibrant reviews, but mine even distinguished between my location on a sidewalk and road when I zoom in. I do make sure I have direct line-of-sight to the sky though.

Had a question regarding the screen timing out. I don't have a car holster yet (waiting on the Samsung car dock but who knows) so I often don't plug in the phone in the car. Regardless of the app (Sprint Nav, Google Nav, Google maps), the screen turns off in about 30 seconds (main phone display settings). I can't seem to find any way to disable the screen timeout for a specific app. I figured the navigation apps would have the screen continuously on, but even in landscape angle, the screen times out. You could argue the screen should stay on even if you are navigating while walking in a city and can't plug it in.

Anybody have a solution? Anybody else having the same issues? Thanks for the help.

I got a weird one. The power button doesn't shut off the phone when using the camera. I have to exit the camera to turn off the phone. Makes it hard to use the phone as a pocket camera.

I have the same problem.

My phone will not charge to 100%. As soon as I pull it off the charger it is 97%. This is with the phone turned off. I then plug the phone back in after ten minutes and I still can't get to 100%.

Welcome to the club. Just took mine off the charger with the "unlug you battery is fully charged" notification and it was only at 97%. Other times it will be at 100% right off the charger and then 5 minutes later be down to 94%.

That is unusual, when navigating on Google Map the screen will turn off as scheduled, but when using Google Navigation (the app with the blue arrow) the screen timeout is overridden by the app.

Have you updated the Google Maps app from market, there is an newer version than the one on ROM. If you have not updated yet, go ahead and update from the market, then reboot the phone and you will find two new apps, Places and Navigation; the latter is the one I am talking about here.

Having issues with the phone locking up at different times. First time I turned on wifi, coming out of standby, plugging in headphones, random occurrences while browsing the internet, and occasionally while using the market. A quick battery pull solves the issue but for only having had the phone for 2 days I am getting concerned. It also locked up while charging overnight on standby. Planning on taking it in on Tuesday to see if there's a fix or just get it replaced.

Since I got the Epic on Tuesday I have only experienced one freeze/lock up while using the GPS, otherwise no major stability problems.

You need to do a complete wipe and run anew for awhile to exclude software related instability. If your problem is resolved this way, install one or two app at a time and try for one or two days before adding another, this way you can isolate the culprit and report back for the benefit of the community.

If a complete wipe does not cure the problem, then insist on an exchange as this is not normal behavior.

My rear speaker blew just after a few days. I don't even use the music player or anything to blow it I guess it was jujst from the ringer. That was the only loud noise coming out of it. Took it right back to best buy and they exchanged it for me.

Other then that I hope they fix battery life in any future updates

Freezing

I had a freezing issue for a few days. Took it back today and exchanged, no questions asked. I did expect a few quirks for a new device, they all have them. I think they will correct in a short time. Other than that, better than the EVO, IMO.

So does your new phone still freeze? Do you have the same software as your old one? I'm having freezing issues too and was wondering if it was hardware issues or software

Once I reset the device will I have to reprogram the esn swap? I can't remember the code the rep gave me to change the phone id numbers.

Thanks so much for this. My device is pretty sound, other than occasional freezing. Coming from a BB, I definitely understand loading too many apps @ a time can cause a problem.

okay, this is the first I have heard of this particular issue; my wife had a problem where almost all the icons disappeared from her desktop and then after she she replaced them, they disappeared a second time after shutting down her phone and turning it back on. Any ideas?

No issues with my second device. All good, so for. And I've installed the same apps, so I tend to think it was a device issue.:D

one issue I'm having is, sometimes, the lower right side of the touchscreen (when closed) doesn't work on some application. But the same area of the screen works just fine as soon as I open it up into landscape mode.

No problems with my phone, battery is good, gps works great(didnt use it much though). Speaker is nice and loud(to show off with). video is good. Still camera pic is amazing outdoors, mediocre to poor inside. Calling software works real smooth and quick.

Only thing im afraid of is screen separation. I have noticed that on the rightside of the phone if i push down on the glass screen, i can see the screen go in deeper, making it more recessed. NOTE: it only goes down less then half a mm(guess) so it may not be a big deal at all and I only noticed it going down if i hold the phone flat at a wide angle I just dont wanna get screwed (:x).

capacitive buttons is really an issue and you will notice if you are a former Evo user. I've tested some epics and all have the same issues with the capacitive, specially the back button.
Also having some lag and the phone restarts by itself for the 2nd time
