My WiFi keeps turning off on its own. Is there a way to make it not do that?

Howdy,

I have a GS9+ with Android 9. For some reason, the Wifi on my phone turns itself off every so often and I can't figure out why it's doing that. Does Android have something built-in that turns off Wifi if I'm not connected to it (while driving, etc)? If I see it goes off and turn it back on, after a few minutes it just turns itself off again for no apparent reason.

Anyone know if it's possible to make it leave the Wifi on all the time and stop turning itself off?

Thanks.

I have an account but this site doesn't ask me to log in when I make a post so I guess it posted anonymously. *sigh*

Any power-saving modes turned on, or 3rd party battery-saver apps installed?

When it turns off it stays off. If I turn it on manually, a few minutes later it will go off again if it's not connected to something.

Last night I setup a Tasker profile to play me a sound any time the Wifi turns on or off. It turned off twice on my way to work. I turned it back on after the first one and left it off after the second one. When I went to lunch, it turned itself off while I was waiting for me food.

You should monitor this in safe mode see if any 3rd party apps are causing this

Sounds like a routine of some kind. Also, you can check in WiFi advanced settings if you have automatically Turn on wifi in often visited places.

I do have that setting enabled but as far as I know, it's always been enabled. Does the inverse of that setting also happen? Turn off wifi when in a non-often visited place? I guess that could be it but don't know why it's never been a problem before.

That is disabled by default I think.

If you have that enabled, then yes, it does the inverse when you leave your wifi signal. I have mine set that way and it does the same thing. Also turns back on when I get back that wifi signal.

I turned off the Automatic setting and I think my wifi stayed on during my commute today. Wifi doesn't use much battery so not sure what the real purpose of that feature is. I was having issues because I'd get to work and the wifi wouldn't always turn on by itself.

Thanks all.

You should be able to set work as a "frequently used wifi spot" and it will connect/disconnect automatically.
