Nexus 6: Complaints, bugs & gremlins thread.

I am shocked at how many complaints are out there, but then as I look at this thread for the first time, I am seeing a lot of posts from 2015. I just moved from a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to the Nexus 6 and am very pleased. I bricked the Note 4 and trust me, it was bricked. Anyway, I am hoping that with the Nexus 6 I can get onboard with the FI project. Other then that, and learning the differences, I've had no issues at all with the phone at 30 hours of pretty consistent yes. Oh, apparently wherever the coil is, it is very picky on the charging.

First and foremost: This phone is the best one I've EVER owned, and it beats my old iPhone 4S a million times over. Now, onto the problems.

So on Day 1, I took the Nexus 6 out of the box, fanboy-ed a bit, and then turned it on. I followed the Setup instructions and synced everything correctly, then started downloading all my favorite apps on the Play Store, because I'd never had an android phone before (my old Blackberry Torch was hell as well...). Anyways, then something peculiar started to happen; half the screen would freeze in place on stock rom and kernel (Lollipop 5.0), and I wouldn't receive calls and texts until really late after they happened or when I got a voicemail. That part was Sprint's fault though, because their 3G switchback circuit service is kind of broken. So, I had to use my phone on 3G to receive calls or texts on time? WRONG. When connected to Wi-Fi, I didn't receive calls or texts at all. This was in November, almost 9 months ago.

Today, half my screen still freezes. It's probably a hardware defect, but Motorola wants me to send in my only phone for 3-5 business days when I need to contact my landlord about leasing an apartment; either that or pay a "premium fee". Either way, I will get a refurbished phone that is probably significantly worse than my current problem; I've read all sorts of screen errors about the Nexus 6, and luckily mine has no burn-ins or tints no matter how long I seem to leave the screen on or use it. I still can't receive phone calls on 4G sometimes on Wi-Fi, and I think this is dependent on the tower's current software or if it has been upgraded or not because it worked fine at the Sprint store (the guy kept calling me a liar in a joking manner because I couldn't replicate the issues listed above...). It's kind of weird that this screen issue only happens when I'm running the phone's software, you think the phone wouldn't care if I was booting, in TWRP recovery flashing a .zip, or anything else, but it only occurs at random intervals when I'm using the phone, and on any and every application. Anyways, I LOVE this phone, despite how badly I may have criticized this particular one. I do, however, have a problem with Motorola support and Sprint's inability to resolve this issue or even let their customers know this device did not work on their network properly (I posted for months on their support forum... hundreds of people with this phone on their network had this problem, and it took 5 months for them to "acknowledge it was an issue and look into it". What a joke.). Anyways, this phone is a whole lot better than any Samsung phone I've used (my friends have them and I use them sometimes; their Touch-wiz interface is so laggy IMO...) and if you don't mind the size you should, and probably do, love it!

If anyone else has these problems, or even if you don't, what do you recommend? I really don't want to have to flash stock everything again for Sprint to run diagnostics and give me a refurb, or send mine in to Motorola for a refurb when mine is brand new and I've only dropped it once (2 feet from the floor) with a case on it.

I cannot receive calls If I turn WiFi on and my preferred network is set to LTE.

If, 3g is set as preferred network or WiFi is off this is not an issue.

I'm in a Sprint SPARK service area and have good signal strength. Down/up of 30/7 Mbps on avg.

Build LMY47D
Baseband MDM9625_104446.01.02.95R
I am having the same problem on an intermittent basis.

It doesn't seem to happen all of the time, just occasionally, and when it does happen, no calls come through.

As you mentioned, the best work-around is to toggle the phone to 3G only when I am on WiFi.

I have a new found respect for my Galaxy S6e's bottom single speaker....

When in my pocket, top down and screen to my leg, like a phone should be carried, the Galaxy ring volume is 100% louder than the ****ty dual front facing speakers on my N6. I'd give up the little bit better sound and loudness watching vids over being able to hear a call or notification come through. I can't hear this phone at all at full volume in pocket with any ring tone.

Weird. I've never had that problem, and my N6 not only faces my leg, it's also trapped in a leather "wallet" case that has no slits on the cover for the speaker grilles. Maybe you should try a punchier ringtone? The T-Mo jingle on mine has been known to scare the **** outta me at 3/4 volume.

Agreed, my Nexus 6 on full volume can be heard throughout my whole house... Granted I also have songs with screaming lyrics and guitar as my ringtone, so it's going to be loud, but still.

I purchased Nexus 6 from google store online 5 months ago. I got so disappointed when I got the screen cracked. Talked with google and motorola on the phone for over 1 hour. Here is what I got;
1. I need pay $175 to get it fixed. The screen is not under warrenty. I didn't drop the phone or smash the phone. It is sliped out of my pocket while I am sitting there. It is less than 1 meter high. How can a $700 device fragile like that?

2. I was asked to provide a US address to get it fixed (with $175 charge), which I don't have. This is rediculous!!!!! I bought online and the phone is shipped to my Canadian address. Why should I have an US address to get support?

I recalled my niece had an Apple phone and got screen scrached two years ago. She just walked in the Apple store and get a new (or like new) phone immediately.

That is ridiculous from Motorola. I have to be very careful not to drop the phone even from 1 cm now.

And yeah.. Apple excels in customer service. There is a reason why they are the top dog.

Well many companies' reasoning is that once you have a device it's your responsibility to take care of it. Even if it accidently fell out of your pocket it still happened, and it's not the company's fault or obligation to fix it. Similarly, if you buy a new car and it gets side-swiped the dealership does not give you a new one. This is just how companies work, they're not insurance providers.

My Nexus 6 screen froze 3 times today. It goes half and half just like @Naroxas44 had mentioned above. This happens while doing the simplest of tasks

Not sure what needs to be done. Should I go for a replacement, since mine is under the free replacement period.

Nexus 6 32gb unlocked phone, using AT&T Sim.

Please let me know how to solve this issue.

If you can return it, get another Nexus 6.
I have had problems with my phone since the beginning and should have had it replaced. I had hoped software updates would fix the problem, but it didn't.

I dropped mine from a foot high. Screen cracked :(. I was gifted this phone just last week. I'm being asked to pay Rs.16k ($240) for a replacement!

I wonder if it would have been any different had it been an LG Nexus? I got a cracked screen on my old Nexus 5. The Google support guy on the phone immediately offered me a free replacement. If Motorola somehow prevented Google from making the same offer for the N6, then I'd agree Motorola stinks.

Well I've noticed Motorola wants you to pay "premium fees" if you don't want to send your phone in. So basically pay money to keep my phone for a few days or send in my phone to have it replaced and have no device to contact anyone... That's kind of ridiculous considering I use my device for numerous work purposes and communication and can't be without it. So I just never RMA'd my Nexus 6 with the half-screen freeze issue. After seeing the benchmarks for the latest iPhone I'll probably be switching to it, I've had way too many bugs on this device (still don't receive texts or calls on Wi-Fi, it's been about a year now) which is considered to be pure Android Stock firmware (ew Touchwiz).

Selected couple of images/videos from the google gallery on nexus 6 and on deleting whole gallery goes for a toss i.e gallery shows blank - folders are not visible. on closing the gallery and reopening the gallery, folders are visible. Any idea why it's happening

Been having pefromance issues since updating my Nexus 6 to Marshmallow OTA. The Phone app crashes and/or freezes more times then it should. This is a huge no go item, given that this device is supposed to be a phone.

I will also have issues with the keyboard IME where the on-screen buttons to the immeidate left of the screen will not render. This usually results in my backing out of the application and re-launching it which will then result in a properly rendered keyboard IME.

Pressing the on-screen "Recent apps" button to run through the list of background running app will at times not display anything. That is until I touch the screen and swipe to the right or left and then imediately all the list of all the open app will be displayed
