Note 5 vs Note 4 discussion

If they had been released at the same time, would you get a Note 4 or Note 5?

Note 4, hands down. Most has already been covered. Removable battery, removable SD card, IR blaster. I would like to add, a track record. The Note 5 is new. I never buy anything as important as my smart device when it first comes out because it really hasn't been tested by the masses. What they print as release specs and how it performs in the real world are not always the same. The Note 4 is a power house, and has a track record long enough to know it doesn't have any odd quirks. The Note 5 "may" prove to be a reliable phone, but we really don't know until it has been out a while. Even if it did prove reliable, I would still go with the Note 4 for all the reasons above.

Samsung should just continue to produce and sell the Note 4 for a while and see if it continues to sell. That way customers can choose based on their priorities.

That would be nice. I have the Note 3 and will wait for the next compatible smart phone, but might go with a Note 4 if none impress me. My only complaint on the Samsung is the signal strength of the radio's. I always said "it's a phone first" and if it doesn't get a good signal on the radio, it is not a good phone. My Note 3 has had problems with weak signals compared to my Motorola phones, but Motorola has always been known for good radio's, they excel in that market outside the phone industry. I have noticed Verizon signal is not as strong as it should be in places I frequent, and would like a better radio in my phone. My Note 3 was a compromise of slightly weaker signal to gain a phablet. I may go for the best radio next time.

So how many people buying the N5 will be using it without a case? If so, I can understand that looks matter. But with that glass back drops could be unfortunate. If you will use a case, how will that impact how it looks?

D brand skin eventually for finger print prevention and Ringke clear case immediately.

The Note 5 seems nearly damn perfect for me and my uses.
What 3 things did I never use on my Note 4?
1. IR Blaster
2. Micro SD slot
3. Never had a need to switch out batteries

I feel bad for the "power" users who require those things, and I wish Samsung would come out with a 'Note 5 Active' that could include those things, but for me the Note 5 is a huge step up. Faster processor, more RAM, better camera and FP Scanner, improved SPen functionality, improved TW, gorgeous design....

I'm so damn excited.

Last I checked when Samsung released the Original Note, Note 2, Note 3, Note 4 and now the 5 there were cheaper alternative devices on the market. Additionally, none of the devices had s-pens. Are you saying consumers didn't look at Samsung alternatives AND buy them. You don't ever recall people saying, "I will never buy a Note it's too big?" You think that crowd of people didn't purchase a different brand?

There has always been complaints when Samsung released it Note's. The screen's too big, why do you need a stylus, too plasticky for a premium device yada yada yada.........Now it's the Note 5's turn to get bashed a bit just like the other Note's before it.

Amazingly, through all of the negativity, Samsung, still manages to sell more devices than all the other android OEM's combined.

This phone won't sell well, and I would like it too. There is no longer a major difference between phones. Time will tell and quickly.

I feel like I'm in the complete minority. I considered the Note 4, but the size was just slightly too big, the design just slightly too ugly, and just not enough convincing features for me and I went with the Moto X.

This year it's a bit less wide, feels great in the hand, the design is incredible and the software (from all reports) much enhanced. Plus the absolute best in class camera (beating even the iPhone) and continues to move the needle further in terms of display, and I'm excited about buying it as my first Samsung device.

Of course, a lot of the above is subjective. But that's how I see it. I have almost no interest in a Note 4, and tons of interest in the Note 5

Note 5 with a nice cushy case seems a no brainer if people are not concerned about storage. Ditto on the fixed battery, but seems most people of the two features have priority on storage.

Because whatever market research they did found that the amount of people using the IR blaster were a minority, probably.

why remove something that is not useless? i dont think that it takes that much space inside the hardware...same with USB 3.0 they removed it for no reason

I played with the Note 5 yesterday in my local Verizon store. It is slimmer then my Note 4 and the screen is a little better my Note 4. But nothing else really stood out to make me want to give up my Note 4 for it. Another guy standing next to me had the same grips I have about no MicroSD card slot. Every one like to say use the Cloud for to make up for the lost of SD card. But how much I personally use with work and movies would cost an little fortune on the cloud and not including extra data charges for those of us that do not have unlimited data. I use drop box for my church photos and videos and 50GB was gone within a month. For now I know I made the right decision with sticking with my Note 4. If a 128GB ever get released by Verizon. I might consider buying it. I am so happy with my Note 4. Battery and MicroSD slot. It is hear to stay until Notes 6 or 128GB. What ever comes 1st.

More importantly no FM radio. That means more to me than IR blaster.

This bothers me too a lot that most companies have stopped putting FM receivers in phones. I know there are apps out there, but I used like to listen to the Browns games when doing yardwork. Now all those games are blacked out on the apps, so you have to subsribe at a cost to listen. Being able to listen OTA through the phone would be nice...

Note 4 All the way, in fact, it should be a NO-BRAINER..
Why?

1. Storage
2. Battery Extendability (spare battery capable)

However, if those two things don't matter, and you want a slimmer profile with a battery that is just as good, and the new processor, and new spen, and new fast wireless charging, and a bottom facing speaker, and android 5.1.1, And live stream, and better camera features, and, and and....

Then the note 5 might be for you lol

Everything you mentioned I have on GNote4 already except slimmer display and new processor. I have wireless charging. Phone still works like an champ no lag at all. If I purchase it now it would be because I just like having the latest phone not because I can really use it like I use my Note 4. I use the pen a lot to get signatures. The GNote5 is a great phone but just not for my needs for work and entertainment with No MicroSD slot.

Did they ever get rid of the lag on the Note 4?
