I just traded a droid 2 for a fascinate because i missed the vibrant screen my omnia 2 had. I got it and was disappointed at all the crap that was on it, but in less than 24 hours i am running the 2.5 rom and am loving this phone more than any phone i have ever touched. thank you so much for making this soo simple and easy for me. this is the way we should be getting the phones from verizon, then they wouldnt be able to even sell iphones lol. once again thank you.

Question/Problem

I went from stock--> sc2.4(odin) --> sc2.5(odin again)....

Now I will be going to sc2.6, but I just want to flash it through CWM..

I have been trying to apply themes for the past 2 days with no success
because Red recovery won't pick up the .zip that put on the sd...
but when I look at the files on sd,I can clearly see it there..

I have been using this method:
"Go into recovery by either holding down the power button and choosing recovery from that menu, or by holding down the volume down, volume up, and power buttons until you see samsung flash for the second time, then let go of all three buttons. You should be in stock blue recovery, hit the volume down button once to highlight apply sdcard:update.zip and hit the home soft key. This will take you to red cwm....."

I get into red just fine..... Do I need to extract the zip file before loading onto my sd card? Am I missing a step somewhere? Do I need to place the .zip into a certain folder on sd?

Other than that, everything is running GREAT! You guys are doing/have done
a heck of a job bringing all of this to us... Thank you!

EDIT:
Oh , and I have been reading through threads and posts for hours trying to find the answer to this problem..
but to no avail.... So, Thanks again for the help..

No it does not get extracted,,, and it does not go in any folders it goes directly onto the sd card,,, if you need to rename the file so that you can recognize it easier on the sdcard you can do that

I'm completely new to this type of stuff so don't mind my noob question. What would I use to back up my phone before I do one of these complete processes?

welcome to Android Central, Im going to sleep after this question, as its 8am and i have been up all night....
you can back up contacts many ways
export to sd
from contacts hit the menu button>import/export>export to sd

sync google contacts, my favorite,
settings>accounts and sync>check off auto sync>choose your gmail account below> check off what you want sync'd

verizon backup assistant
settings > accounts and sync > backup assistant

to back up apps and data , if you are rooted you can use Titanium backup

if you are not rooted i believe you can purchase my backup pro , from the app market....

if you have questions please post and im sure someone will come along and answer you if i dont get to you right away

Good luck and good night/day

Thank you for the quick response!
I will try renaming the file.....
I created a folder (themes) on sd earlier and put the .zip in it but
that too wouldn't come up... so I will try to just rename the file itself
and go from there ... Thanx! Now,get some sleep!

Thanks for the 2.6 bundle... So far,it's running like a champ!

Finally made the jump from stock and I'm glad I did. This thread has been very helpful to say the least! Just wondering, is this the method to flash from now on?:

I have been using this method:
"Go into recovery by either holding down the power button and choosing recovery from that menu, or by holding down the volume down, volume up, and power buttons until you see samsung flash for the second time, then let go of all three buttons. You should be in stock blue recovery, hit the volume down button once to highlight apply sdcard:update.zip and hit the home soft key. This will take you to red cwm....."

...like when I upgrade to 2.6 or beyond, or want to flash a theme, or install that browser file to stop the force close problem? Thanks a ton!

so is there much of a difference between 2.6 and 2.5? im running superclean 2.5 and am wondering if i should upgrade to 2.6?

if so can i just download the link for the non data wipe 2.6, extract it, run it through odin and bam thats it? since i already have update.zip on my sd card from 2.5. or do i need to put another update.zip on my sd card cause its another upgrade?

thank you

After you are in red cwm you need to scroll to install zip from sd card with the volume button, then in red you use the power button to choose something, so hit the power button. This will take you to the root of your sd card. If you put the 2.6 zip file there you will see it in the menu. Scroll to it by using the volume buttons, then hit the power button. You will get a confirmation page, scroll to yes and hit the power button. If you put the zip file in a folder you will need to scroll to that folder from the root of the sd card and hit the power button to go into that folder. Just find where you put the 2.6 zip file, scroll to it so it is highlighted and hit the power button, then confirm installation. After it is done installing hit the menu soft key until you are back at the main red cwm menu where reboot system now will be highlighted at the top of he menu, hit the power button and wait for your phone to boot up.

Yes, this is the method you will use from now on to flash new ROMs, themes, add-ons, etc. Download the zip file to your sd card. Boot into recovery one of two ways. The easy way is hold down the volume button and choose recovery from that menu. The other way is to hold down the volume up, volume down, and power buttons until you see the samsung logo flash for a second time, then let go of all three buttons. Either way should put you into blue stock recovery or directly into red clockworkmod recovery (cwm.) If you booted to blue, hit the volume down button once so apply sdcard:update.zip is highlighted and hit the home soft key. This will take you into red cwm. Scroll to install zip from sd card with the volume button, but instead of the home soft key, in red cwm you use the power button to choose things so hit it. Then scroll to choose zip from sd card and hit the power button. This will take you to the root of the sd card. If you put the zip file there you will see it. If not you will need to use the volume buttons and power button to navigate to whatever folder you put the zip file into. Once you have found the zip file, use the volume buttons to scroll to and highlight it, then hit the power button. You will go to a confirmation page, just scroll to the only yes in the menu and hit the power button. Once the installation is complete hit the menu soft key (lower left of the phone) until you are back at the main red cwm menu where reboot system now will be highlighted at the top of the menu. Hit the power button and wait for the phone to reboot. Done. Easy peasy, winner winner chicken dinner.
