Official 2.0.1 findings thread

miagi - im with you on the stock transitions. For example, on stock home click the phone icon. The application expands into the space. Exit the phone and it shrinks into nothingness. Super fast, super smooth and super HOT. I currently use dxtop because I really love the dock bar and more imporantly the fact that it will orient to landscape mode without physical keyboard (MAJOR flaw in my opinion on stock home, should be at least an option). BUT, I'm craving the stock transitions, dxtop slides the app in from the right, and on exit, slides it out from the left. While ok, it's nowhere near as fast nor as cool imo.

So I'm hoping that 1) in some future update we get a dock bar and option to use home in landscape mode or 2) dxtop adds an option to use stock transitions for loading/exiting apps. I emailed the dev about it but not sure that will ever see the light of day

I agree. I use panda for the rotating to landscape without sliding the keyboard, to have more then 3 screens and now the "doc drawers". I do hope too that panda will develop a constant visible bottom dock like dxtop or Home++ but I love panda using up to 11 screens.

Transitions are way better with 2.0.1 with expanding and contracting. Miss that when I use panda.

I almost feel that not being able to switch to landscape at the home screen unless the keyboard is out was intentional. I know sometimes I would find it annoying when my Storm would switch to landscape menu when I wasn't intending on doing so. But at the same time, the accelerometer in the Droid is a lot better, so :p

This thread has become totally cluttered... Any way a MOD could make an official post that can be updated with new findings, or delete all the nonsense? please? Not for me.. but for the people that want to see what pertains to the title.

yeah. thx for putting ur 2 cents in there.:D

What to do when power button is unresponsive???

mine seems snappier too.

i don't see how physically pulling the battery would break the phone, but it is unnecessary as turning the phone off and on does the same thing :)

I have had a few instances where the phone seemed to be frozen and I was unable to use the power button to turn the phone off. This usually occurred when I may have had a few apps running at once and was trying to switch between them. Even holding the power button down for 2-3 seconds didn't work. In those cases, I removed the battery.

Is there another way I can easily power down or reset the phone without taking out the battery? I would love to know for future reference.

Mine's basically a little quicker since the update, with no major observations. I did play with uninstalling DXtop, and I gained 11 mb's of memory back, and the stock home screen's less laggy for me now. DXtop was lagging more, no question. So I'll run stock for a bit, and see about reinstalling dxtop in a bit.

Its 7 pages. Cleaning it up would make it a 2 page thread.

lol@ bart. what is wrong with it? is it just slow? choppy? is it stock browser?

Both the android browser and dolphin. They load up fine but once I goto another website, it loads slow and the scrolling speeds move like a snail. Completely unacceptable in my opinion. Maybe Im the only one having this problem but its a pain in the ass for all I know. It doesnt matter which site im on either, it moves slow and scrolls very very slow.

I did the manual update. I've definitely seen an improvement in switching between home screens. Scrolling through the app lists in the marketplace is much better too.
I haven't really noticed an improvement in battery life though.

Ya I'm running slow too. Also did speed test apparently and its seriuosly pitiful. After work will do some playing with it.

You guys are on n00b settings! Im on 2 pages.

User CP > edit options > Number of Posts to Show Per Page > change that to 40

The only thing im really noticing that is slower now is the SMS/MMS app. Kind of annoying but its minor.

This is something that I just began to notice has been annoying me. I used to be able to press the unlock button then swipe in a single motion (meaning I would press the top button with my pointer finger then with my thumb swipe on the screen) and it would unlock. Now, with the new unlock screen, doing this results in the unlock switch jittering, then going back to where it was and I'll have to swipe again to unlock.

The only fix for this I've been able to muster is to wait that extra half a second before I swipe to unlock, which isn't natural to me because I have to tell myself to hesitate, then, ok, go! I want the original unlock screen back, or they should fix the delay/lag on this one!

EDIT: OK I was playing with it some more and I think what they did was increase the swipe length to unlock. Previously, I'd only half to swipe across half the screen and it would unlock. Now, I've got to swipe about 3/4 of the screen for it to unlock. :( Sad day.

update

yes the phone responds much faster and the battery life increased dramatically. Few other minor changes, noticed you can no longer select the screen timeout to NEVER. all in all very happy

Did the manual update myself, overall pleased with the increased snappiness of everything. I also noticed the lack of the "never timeout screen" option, and i'm not particularly happy about it. I had it set there so I could leave it on the multimedia dock and have it by my desk-side clock. Now it time's out every half-hour. Wish there was a way to tell it to stay always-on when powered on the dock.

Yes, I liked that option too, I mean I have it in the dock there all happy with big clock and weather showing and the screen shuts off...kinds defeats the purpose of having it in there...but I trust they will resolve it with dockrunner or update.

You can still have it so the screen never shuts off when charging. Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Stay Awake
