OnePlus 8 Event enough to make you switch?

I seriously have no issue with the curved screen on the 10+ It seems less intrusive than the S8+

I actuallt enjoy phones with curved screens too - I loved the curved screen on my Honor 8 and my S10's Edge screen is AMAZING. It's just the screen protectors, combined with the in-display fingerprint sensor, that are csusing me some headaches. 🤣

I just can't work up excitement for these new One Plus phones, which is weird. They offer just about everything I would normally look for in a new smartphone, yet I'm already bored lol.

Maybe it's the fact that every OEM feels like they're releasing the same phone this year. Or maybe it's that I get more excited for the Q4 phones.

If you have the S20 series, from my personal opinion the S20 series is better than OnePlus 8 Pro. Between the Ultra and 8 Pro, I'm liking using the Ultra more everyday. The ultra just feels more polished overall, the premium feel, hardware and software, even the screen. Both the 11 pro max and Ultra I can feel using them daily it's on a slightly next tier compared to 8 pro. It's kind of hard to explain, may be the curved screen on 8 Pro is turning me off too much I don't know. But if you have the S20 series I think the 8 Pro is slight downgrade even though I love Oxygen OS and they have addressed my complaints of missing wireless charging, improved the camera etc. I'm seriously debating if I want to keep the 8 pro or send it back.

PS: Yes I know 8 Pro costs less that Ultra or 11 pro max but the same arguments apply for S20+ vs 8 Pro and the current S20+ price is same as 8 Pro in the US.

As someone who has just bought an 8 pro and is selling their S20+ I do actually agree. If I lived in the US and could buy the snapdragon version I’d call it a toss up with the edge going to Samsung. My S20 felt like a nicer device to hold I do really like it.

In the UK though the exynos is a car crash, the processor/power management difference is well established and yes mine would get very hot under continuous use (I do not game on a phone), what is less reported though is the camera. The differences are more than just Ex vs SD processing, the actual camera hardware has been confirmed as different too. All I know is in anything but good light my S20+ was not good and I guess to simplify it in these lockdown days it was not good when used indoors at all. My 8 pro is better and my hit rate far higher. Put the Oxygen OS gravy on top and it really feels like a win-win so far.

YMMV

Yeah I should have clarified the Snapdragon S20 series is what I compared with not the much criticized Exynos version

I have used the S20 Ultra, S20+ and the OnePlus 8 pro and agree wholeheartedly. There is just something about the OnePlus software that does not feel as polished. It also has weaker bluetooth and I had a horrible time with the fingerprint sensor on the OP 8P. I wanted to use the dual SIM on it, but it is currently not activated on US models. The S20+ is about the perfect device -- great size and it works great.

It's hard to get excited about a new phone every 2 months . At this point phones don't offer much more then they did the year before. No real innovation like there was maybe between 2012-2016.
There's not much excitement with every new release

I had some issues at first but it seems ok now, what trouble did you have?

It just doesn't recognize my fingerprint, repeatedly. I removed and reassigned fingerprints and it still does not work. Disappointing.

That's terrible! Did you have a screen protector installed on the screen, and reassigned your fingerprints after its installation?

So with the event and reviews being out, I’m curious who is thinking about switching to one of the new OnePlus phones? I know I’m debating getting the Pro. I’ll do a bit more reading today but it’s really interesting me. Only thing I didn’t like is how the base model is a greenish blue tint and if you want black it’s $100 more on the Pro. That’s the part I’m struggling with. What are y’all thinking?

No SD card or 3.5 mm jack.
Great display.
I get the 256gb, 12gb RAM variant, you can never have too much memory...

Samsung's are the most interesting Android variant for me because of the readily available package blockers for them that are really needed to kill bloatware on carrier phones and the fact they are extremely customizable.
Literally hundreds of icon packs, a dozen sidebar add ons plus the Samsung Good Lock apks.

For me they have always have had one of the best on screen fingerprint sensor. The OnePlus fingerprint sensor is blazingly fast and works every time and it's little forgiving on the angle as well. Compared to the Samsung ones the OnePlus are way better and yes they use different technologies. And generally the consensus is the OnePlus ones work better than Samsung ones. Really surprising you had issues, makes me wonder if you had some hardware issues in that area.

No screen protector.

Oh no! I was going to suggest deleting and reassigning your fingerprints but I see that you've already done that. Does your fingerprint work for anything at all - banking apps, etc? Perhaps try to boot the phone into Safe Mode to see if the situation persists.

If all else fails, and as long as you have everything backed up, I'd recommend a factory reset.

If you're within the period of a return or exchange, that is also something to consider - after all other options have been tried, of course. I'm sorry this is happening to you!

apparently there are trying to fix that display green hint issue. a new o.s update is rolling out. Oxygen OS 10.5.5 . hope that fixes the display issues.

That didn't do much on my device and that update was pushed few days back, but anyway the issues that are mentioned you need to look for it in a very dark room with low brightness percentage set. Regular use it's hard to see. I did compare it with other phones after the update and definitely the Ultra and 11 pro max looks way better than 8 Pro and 4 XL. It's not ideal for sure but not a deal breaker IMO.

I'd agree with this.

I feel like my excitement level for new releases for any manufacturer are lower than they used to be.

Don't get me wrong - I still get excited - but it takes a bit more to get me to that level. Or maybe I'm just shielding myself so I won't want any new phones anytime soon. 🤣
