Optimizing G4 battery thread

Post factory reset and manual install, didn't use any back ups.

Looking ok so far, though I've only had about 17 minutes SOT.

What I don't understand is why Google Services is using up so much of my battery....really not impressed today with it. I'll post two days graphs with this post.

Oh wow I don't think I've ever seen it use that much power...

Is there a lot of stuff syncing throughout the day? Possible location services for google now etc gone rogue?

Here's where I'm at today by the time I got home. This was normal use for me during a work day.

I feel like SOT makes the battery start doing faster with this phone than others I've used, perhaps the price we pay for the resolution and size of display they've moved to at this point?

Example, I browsed Facebook, posted here, and checked email, total time of thirty minutes with screen at 60 brightness and my battery went down 10 percent....normal?

After reading through so many people's battery life, im jealous. I've been getting about 3 hours of SOT and not much more. I've only had the phone for a few days but this is pretty disappointing. My 6 plus would get 8+ hours of SOT easily. Any thoughts of ideas.

For one, hang in there for a bit. 3 days isn't long for the battery to "settle in" (sometimes I wonder how much of a thing that really is but...). Plus, if you're like me, and I assume most folks, you use it a lot more getting it set up the way you like. Your first few days aren't likely your normal usage level.

That said, I've had mine for 9 days on Wednesday, and I'm not thrlled with my overall battery life at all (though SoT has been pretty good).

What KPM said. My usage was way different when I was obsessing over set up. Normal usage has me on day two at 45 percent with almost two hours screen time.

This Is now officially better than my brother on the S6, screen shot is the first one you see there in order from top to bottom.

Can you provide more screenshots so we can see what is actually using the battery?

Are you sure your 6+ got this? A lot of people think "Usage" on the iPhone battery is screen-on time which isn't the case. I used a 6+ for about 4-5 months and "Usage" is whenever it is used (such as an app using a background sync with the phone sitting there locked).

There is no way to see your SoT on the iPhone. They don't display it anywhere like Android.

Last post on this I promise. Here's the end of my testing.

Needless to say my brothers now jealous of me but quick to point out that the S6 with amoled is more efficient than the display of the G4

Here is what I have from this afternoon. I was using Google maps and my phone was dieing while it was on the charger in the car. Not sure why.

If the phone gets too warm (on mine, battery >90F roughly), the phone reduces the charge rate. So if you have a significant power draw (like navigation), that warms the phone up already. Plus if you're in a warm environment, that makes it even worse, and the phone may charge slowly, or actually decrease the battery % while on the charger (I have seen it drop while using navigation in the car, and charging).

Spot on here, since lithium ion batteries are damaged by heat there are regulators In phones that stop heat causes as they come along.

OK, I'm not sure exactly which battery thread is best for this, but this one seems to have the most posts and is linked from the Sticky.

First the basics. At the end of today I will have been running with the G4 (Verizon) for a full 10 days (plus about a half day last Monday in which I was setting it up with all that entails)

I have disabled all the usual stuff I disable. I have adjusted sync stuff (even to levels I hadn't previously, but not to a level it bothers me). I tried Auto Brightness and it was bad, so I have had Lux running that (well) for the past few days. I'd assume my average screen brightness is below 50% (it was 50% for a while when Auto dfidn't work and before I got Lux).

Nothing about my use or my locations is different. I even super-debloated last night with the Debloaater app from XDA.

My overall battery life stinks. Confusingly, SoT is good. It seems there should be a bigger spread between screen on and overall battery life. Here are a bunch of captures taken in succession a few minutes ago:

Is anything jumping out at anyone as to why the overall battery life is so terrible? I'm at a complete loss at this point. It would be one thing if overall and SoT were both low, or if overall was OK but SoT was low. This ratio makes no sense to me. You?

I truly don't understand how that's happening.

Essentially you are 27% at 9 hours and 4 of that being SOT
I was at 5% after 43 hours and 3 hours SOT.
To me at least that math just doesn't add up.

Any of Y'all with faster than normal battery drain have a smartwatch? I'm wondering if that is causing the quicker than normal drain on my G4, and previously, my G2.

2 things stick out to me:

- Held Awake is 2 hours. That seems like a lot. I know it says it's only 1% of battery but it means the phone isn't sleeping correctly. Which ties into my 2nd thing.

- Your phone has discharged 19% in the 5 hours that the screen is off. That's almost 4%/hour. That seems high but since I don't use Gsam I haven't looked at that number on my own phone.

Obviously perspective is everything but you are basically at 9 hours up and 4 hours SOT with 25% left. Extrapolate out and that would be s about 12 hours up time with 5 hours SOT. I personally wouldn't call that horrible.

I'll download gsam and see what it says about keep awake for comparison.

No smartwatch here. I don't use any Bluetooth either. Only thing I connect is wired earbuds and the charger/USB.

Right. I can't just throw the phone down in disgust and say "the battery sucks!"
