PH-1 battery life: Post yours

I'm getting horrible battery life, nothing like what has been posted here.
How many mAh are reported for Phone idle, Waze, Screen, Cell standby, Google Services and Android OS? Click on each one to get the number.

Do you have any social media apps burning in the background?

The fact that your slope is a straight line is odd. Something looks to be causing a constant drain. You should see a big dip while Waze was in use but it should level out once the app was closed. Or, did you leave Waze open all day?

131mAh - Waze, 52min CPU, 44min GPS, 17min mobile radio
108mAh - Cell standby, , 24min active
94mAh - Google services, 10min CPU, 18min mobile radio
65mAh - Android OS, , 26min CPU, 7min mobile radio
47mAh - Android System, 57min CPU
22mAh - WiFi (10.5 hours running)
18mAh - Chronus

The only app I have signed in is Facebook messenger (not the app) and LinkedIn. I have Instagram and Twitter installed, but neither have been signed into yet. I also have LastPass running.

That's what I thought too (although honestly I've never spent much time looking or investigating battery use/drain on Android).

Or, did you leave Waze open all day?

No, just during my commute. It's on WiFi all day at my office.

Any advice, recommendations appreciated.

I uninstalled Messenger, put the phone in airplane mode and 6 hours later it's down 50% with no use at all. Something is seriously wrong. Same slope on the battery use. I'm going to factory reset the phone and see if it's any different. It's not worth the $399 I paid if I can't get 12 hours out of the device.

@mkreef It's either your apps (or an app) or you somehow ended up with a defective battery. Software is more likely so a factory reset is a good idea. I've had four PH-1s so far and all last forever on a full charge.

That's good to know. Is safe mode sufficient to rule out the apps? Before I factory reset, I'm trying safe mode and not touching the phone -- the battery has dropped 10% in a little more than 1 hour.

I've never tried safe mode to know what gets disabled. It's worth a try. 10% per hour sounds like a lot. I'd turn off radios as well just to see if poor signal in your area is causing high amounts of scanning and radio use.

FWIW, I removed my sim, did a factory reset, setup as a new device, not even with my google account, installed zero apps, made sure phone was fully charged. I'm seeing almost the identical battery usage. Looks like 13 hours (whereas I was getting 12 with cellular radios and poor Verizon signal), identical battery usage slope. Only two apps listed are Cell standby (15%) and Phone idle (1%). I only pick up the phone once an hour to check battery level.

So something is seriously wrong with this. I’m going to take it back to BestBuy and try for an exchange (I paid $400 and if I can get a days worth out of the battery I will keep it).

How many mAh are you seeing on the Cell Standby? It might be worth getting a replacement either way. At least that way you'll know.

Factory reset, no sim card, no apps installed, no google account associated with phone -- just connected to WiFi. Not sure I understand why Cell standby uses so much power when there is no sim card.

Cell standby 832mAh
Phone Idle 73mAh
WiFi 18mAh

Just wanted to add to this thread that the first couple of days it looked like I was going to be near zero charge left by the end of my workday, but after cycling it over a couple of days I now have about 40% charge left at the end of the day

Does question for you all - how the heck is the battery life on this phone so good?! The phone has a bright, clear 5.7" screen and only a 3040 mAh battery, yet even when the screen is on, the battery drains so slowly. It can't be a background efficiency thing because the battery life is awesome with the screen on time too. Any thoughts?

It could be the hardware — efficient display, fewer chips than others, shorter cooper traces, etc. — but my personal guess is they aren't running as much (or any) data collection in the background as other phones. Selling that data is big business and Andy did say these phones are ours. Who knows if that's the case but that's my guess.

Mu battery life is ridiculously good. I came from a Note 4 that would last maybe half a day, less than 2 hours of screen time. I am getting though an entire day with 40% left easily with normal usage.

My battery life was great until the latest update in the first week of Dec. Now it seems to barely make it through the day. Before the update I usually had about 30-40% battery life left at the end of the day.

Now I have to charge at my desk or I'm at 10% by the time I leave work

I'll post my Accubattery in a few days but so far I'm getting a ton of battery life. I've charged it twice in the 5 days I've owned it including day one where I was on it non stop. Wanted to let the battery completely die but woke up today (last charged on the 8th) and it was at 11%. Couldn't risk running out of battery at work. I'm streaming music almost constantly from Spotify. WIFI / Bluetooth always on. Location / NFC aren't. Push updates for everything including Gmail.

Mine has been the same before and after the update. It burnt through a bit more on the day the update installed but went back to normal after that. I'm still ending with between 30 and 50% left depending on call times.

I have only had my ph-1 for two weeks, but today I still have 23% after 33 hours from charge. SOT 6hr 33 min. Admittedly not heavy usage, but compared to my previous OnePlus phones, I am very pleased.

I sideloaded Oreo Beta 2 about a week ago. I had been getting great battery life before on 7.1.1, but it's now even better. The biggest change is that the Phone Idle has almost gone away. I don't know if they have somehow recalibrated things or not, but the Screen Time is now by far the #1 item instead of Phone Idle. Right now I'm at 43% remaining with 6:53 Screen on time. Phone idle is way down the list.
