Re: Google+ Observations

Not sure I mentioned this before, but when you upload to Google+ you are getting reduced resolution. When I want full resolution I upload to Dropbox.

This morning found that my image wasn't automatically uploaded to my Google+ gallery. I have Google+ set to do so in my phone options.

I checked to make sure my wireless network was on and it was.

Only solution I could think of was to reboot the phone. That solved the problem.

I've mentioned this before and will mention it again because I think it's very important: In bright contrasty light, or even if you are in low light and there's some bright object that's important. Click on the gear in the camera options and then on Exposure value and move the slider down to lessen the exposure and you will save yourself ugly burnt out, non-detailed areas.

Be aware that your focus mode will not change when you move away from camera usage. If you've set the camera to macro mode, it will remain in that mode. It doesn't seem to have any effect on the speed of focusing, however, like it does on a digital camera, where it will slow down focus.

HDR mode is EXCELLENT for photograhing heavily backlit images. This image was taken in hdr mode. Without that mode there would be hardly any detail in the outside areas. Be aware that hdr picture lack contrast and saturation, which you may want to add back in your photo editing software. I found it interesting that the letters HDR are appended to the filename when you save it.

I really enjoy the camera on this phone. The colors are good. The detail is excellent. The HDR and panarama modes are great

Okay, well here's the link since it doesn't want to display the photo on here for whatever reason. http://flic.kr/p/cYGUyu

Took this to compare with the One X. The two were very close.

Panorama Mode Observations

Just started experimenting with it yesterday and have been startled by the ability of the camera to stitch so flawlessly and even out the exposure throughout the dynamic range as it changes.

I have photographed my kitchen area many times and know which areas are going to have blown out areas (tile walls behind fluorescent cabinet lights). Also the areas outside the windows are going to be overexposed and lacking detail.

My dreams for a better smartphone camera and better camera life came true when I bought my S3...and spent some time learning how to use its features and turn off all the backup that was eating battery life and data. (Also had to learn to turn of data when I was at home and used my wi-fi...I had been spoiled by previous unlimited data.)

Made this panorama yesterday morning and decided the camera must use hdr processing to deal with the dynamic range.

Also, surprisingly, wide angle distortion in a panorama is corrected so that vertical lines hardly lean at all.

The only thing I could hope for would be that the original file was higher resolution - I imagine the decision to make it less was to same processing and transfer time.

Image was changed to b/w because of color balance issues with yellow from fluorescent lights and blue from window - an impossible balance issue for even the smartest camera.

Shooting a Parade WITHOUT a "Real" Camera?

Heavy downpours in the morning and a 70% probably of rain and thunderstorms convinced me that I should only take the S3 to record my first experiences riding on a float. I had seen enough images from my S3 to know that it wouldn't disappoint.

Except for the fact that in the overcast light I could barely see the screen, I was delighted with my results.

I wish we could have a way to brighten the screen more than the default setting would allow, so the images were easier to see in bright daylight.

Wow those pictures came out amazing especially for the low lighting conditions.
