[Please Read 1st Post] ED01 - Samsung releases Froyo source code!

My Fascinate is running is so good right now, SC 2.9.2., that I wouldn't think of messing with it. I'll just wait and see what these awesome developers can do with it.

*cough* where's Gingerbread *cough*

I hope this aides ROM devs - so glad I don't really care too much about this as I'm another huge SC fanboy. If ROMS can be improved or if battery life can be improved hey alright! If CM7 can come our way I'd love to try it.

Did I just sign a EULA to post this? What did I just agree to?

Just when I was starting to lose hope and flash 2.9.2, this lovely article caught my eye. I can't believe it! I'm going to wait for the OTA to come. I'm not messing with my phone like I used to. :P

hrmm.. I really hope this leads to an official verizon 2.2 update.. I called them yesterday to complain about not getting froyo yet, and they pretty much sounded like they were never going to beable to offer froyo on the phone.. infact the guy ended up giving me a 60 dollar credit (2 fascinates on my account) on my account just yesterday because I was unhappy with the fact I dont have froyo yet.

so if we get froyo.. im sure verizon is still going to need some time.. or there reps have not a clue its coming yet.

I am excited to see this for two reasons. The first is that I think this will make the dev's lives easier, no more piecing crap together.

The second is that this should silence the doomsayers for awhile. I am a bit tired of the "Fascinate will never see Froyo thread". I know it will only be for about 20 minutes (until the Fascinate will never see GB thread starts) but it will be a good 20 minutes of silence

It was suppose to be out in october, its april of the next year. I think they have something to complain about.

You have froyo, so I think its ironic that you are complaining about the complainers, not everyone wants to root/rom their phone and deal with reading forums all day for support.

Let's keep the spirit of the OP alive, and not get bogged down in what can already be found in another thread.

Everybody wins with this news :)

Sorry, just need to interject a little here to hopefully be a peaceful mediator. From what I read, pizzadude wasn't complaining about people complaining about not having froyo yet. There was a small group of people who kept posting that Froyo was NEVER going to be released, not complaining about the fact it had not been released. I myself had no problem with people expressing and discussing their frustration over the delay in the release. But the doomsdayers who were saying Froyo was never going to be released were being completely irrational and unproductive. Just my view on and interpretation of what pizzadude said.

Cool. How long till we see a build?

DroidXcon told me Epic4g Froyo source was released on a Friday, and the official release came on Monday. Buuuut....that was Sprint and we are dealing with verizon. So in my opinion, better to expect to wait at least a week or two and be pleasantly surprised if it is released sooner, than to expect a few day turnaround and be disappointed yet again by verizon.

If you think about it, the Fascinate got Froyo at a logical time. The Vibtant/Captivate phones were released first so they got Froyo first. The Epic was released next, so it got Froyo next. And the Fascinate was the last of the Galaxy S phones to be released, so it got Froyo last.

I would follow the same logic when looking to Gingerbread. And the Epic already has a confirmed build of it, so the Fascinate shouldn't be far behind :D

The keyword you used there was "logical." Reasonable? That's a different story altogether.

Don't get me wrong, all Galaxy S Froyo updates were long overdue. But with the recent software and info leaks, it appears they may have their shtuff together for Gingerbread. Although that could just be the optimist in me talking.

Has anyone actually opened the file up and looked inside yet? wonder whats in there???

My thinking is best not to download the file and look around for curiosity sake. The more people who do that, the slower the download will be when the devs are trying to download it. Let them get it as soon as possible, then in a few days you can get curious and look around in the file.
