[Please Read 1st Post] ED01 - Samsung releases Froyo source code!

Well, that was quick! A friend of mine has a relative who is actually pretty high up in the VZW field testing department, and he was just saying how he expected it to be released sometime in the next 30 days- and faster as soon as the build was finalized. I'd say it's been finalized...
I'd be a WHOLE lot happier if I hadn't just gotten fed up with Eclair and flashed to EB01 stock about 3 days ago. And lost about half my battery life with the change.... oh well, ED01 ought to fix that.
Now the (VERY slow) counter starts ticking down for Gingerbread.

So some of the guys on xad are saying they don't see anything big or different then the ec10 code they had so that being said guess its not as great as everyone was hoping for.

Just with Bing search, Bing maps, VZ eveything...instead of US Cellular. No wonder it takes so long to release. Bing must mess everything up.

If you think about it, the Fascinate got Froyo at a logical time. The Vibtant/Captivate phones were released first so they got Froyo first. The Epic was released next, so it got Froyo next. And the Fascinate was the last of the Galaxy S phones to be released, so it got Froyo last.

I would follow the same logic when looking to Gingerbread. And the Epic already has a confirmed build of it, so the Fascinate shouldn't be far behind :D

My only qualm here is that even the Mesmerize has gotten the update. When you're talking about regional carriers' phones getting this update while those not tech savvy or brave enough to root/flash their Fascinate (or those who battled the SOD) being left out of the party, there's something not right. Thankfully I've had no issues with flashing, so I can just roll my eyes at some of the things I've read, but I can certainly understand people's frustration. And I'll admit, the update delay was just the first in a line of things that have stockpiled against VZW for me as a customer.

God i hope Samsung picks it up and gets the Gingerbread update out ASAP. hopefully before some of these other phones then the next Samsung iteration of phone android builds could Humble Pie

Samsung cannot release the code if Verizon hasn't approved it. The fact that it has been posted, and hasn't been immediately removed, indicates that Verizon has finally approved ED01 as an official release.

Not necessarily true. With the first Froyo update for the Epic, Samsung posted the update on their website ahead of scheduled release (and never took it down), but Sprint didn't approve it because it was missing some bloatware. Sprint even said on their forums not to download the update and that it was not officially supported. A few weeks later a Sprint-approved update was sent OTA.

Not sure. I've been reading the CM6 thread over at XDA. I think this source code may help, but to what extent I'm not sure. Besides, we just got Froyo source code released, can't we be happy with that and enjoy it instead of already looking for when we can get gingerbread?

Uh.... No..... :-\

:D

No, really! :p

Search for SCH-I500.

shoot fire, someone has to try it.. raising my expectations.. i think i may, i think i might, but let another take this flight.. I assume (and we know what that wored means) we just slap the new leaked source zip,,, and flash it right over what we have in place. Correct ?

I know that the international Verison of the Galaxy S can perform screen captures with Froyo, can the Samsung Fascinate with Froyo also do screen captures by holding back and power or holding back and home?

I also wanted to know if with the addition of froyo, do we finally have TV-Out enabled like our Samsung Vibrant and Captivate Siblings? Can someone do a video of these things :) Thanks!

doesnt work that way , it is not a flashable package, think of it as the blue prints not the building

ah you are quite correct. now if adrynalyn will pop in and fix things we can all share in the good fortune of this new leak,,perhaps right up to gingerbread.
that would be great.

now would be a good time for it as i finally got mine straightened out, finally

I guess no one knows? :(

hrmm.. I really hope this leads to an official verizon 2.2 update.. I called them yesterday to complain about not getting froyo yet, and they pretty much sounded like they were never going to beable to offer froyo on the phone.. infact the guy ended up giving me a 60 dollar credit (2 fascinates on my account) on my account just yesterday because I was unhappy with the fact I dont have froyo yet.

so if we get froyo.. im sure verizon is still going to need some time.. or there reps have not a clue its coming yet.

maybe i ought to pee that rep off and have him send me 2 fascinates. i know someone here at androidcentral who bricked his trying to get someone elses outta the muck....
