poll: camera freezing?

Does your Note9's camera freeze?

I have the problem and it's very frustrating. It has ruined a video of my sister in law saying goes at her wedding and ruined an otherwise awesome video I took at a concert. In the recorded video, the audio keeps playing just fine but the video freezes for somewhere between 2-5 seconds just as it did on the screen when I was recording it. Last night I was recording a video with the flash and I noted that not only does the screen freeze when this happens but it also turned off the LED flash and then once the screen unfroze the flash also came back on. Another video ruined.
Verizon Note 9, 128mb, latest build. Happens with and without memory card. Have already taken to Samsung authorises repair where software was reflashed. Problem restarted 2 days later and has persisted. Happens with most all video modes I have tried, even FHD

skeptically keeping my fingers crossed, but since I restarted my phone this morning, the lag issue hasn't occurred. I've been trying to reproduce it on and off for the last few hours and it hasn't occurred. I doubt it's as simple a fix as that, but strangely so far so good. it was happening EVERY time I launched the camera before the restart

Hate to quote myself, lol, but just wanted to update that it's been about 6+ hours since I restarted my phone and have tried everything imaginable to reproduce the camera lag and it hasn't returned. I'm assuming this isn't going to stick long-term, but out of curiosity, with everything else that's been suggested, has anyone else tried a simple phone restart? I'll be amazed if it fixes it on my phone, but 6+ hours of persistent camera testing without a single lag incident is promising

None of this should matter. Or have to be done. I don't expect perfection, but this is a basic feature that should work.

I've answered most of these questions. Not sure what you mean by "Google camera port". I use what Samsung has. In Instagram, Microsoft Lens and just the camera. No reason to clear cache, I haven't took enough photos for that to be an issue. I never reset phones these days. No Samsung buy me. I'll add (again): no SD card, tmobile USA, locked, camera worked fine in my Note 8 with the same stock settings.

Thank you for trying to offer solutions.
You can use the Google camera software on the note 9. Why I bring it up is, if you install it and the camera functions normally problem solved, we can dumb it down to software issue. If it does it with a different software then it may be hardware related.

Clearing the cache and data is surprisingly useful for ever app. My blue light filter setting stopped working, all I did to fix it was clear that cache and data. Had an issue with bixby cleared cache and data reset up bixby it worked.

Also has anyone out the phone in safe mode and then used the camera to recreate this issue.

Here is the link to the xda thread for the gcam port for the note 9

It's been widely reported that the problem occurs no matter what camera app people try. Cache-clearing does not help. Rebooting, factory-resetting, and reflashing help temporarily, but the problem soon returns.

If it were a hardware problem, rebooting probably would not temporarily fix it. It's most likely a driver-level software problem. Different camera apps all use the same drivers.

Could you explain how those who say theirs work without additional information (make, country, carrier, e.t.c) [are helpful] to those who are having this problem?
The poll potentially helps by showing roughly what fraction of Note9s have the problem. If the fraction is large--as seems to be the case--then showing how widespread it is might help generate publicity which might force Samsung to address the problem.

In order for the poll to be meaningful, we need participation by those who don't have the problem as well as those who do. Therefore, both kinds of responses are helpful.

While I much prefer Samsung phones over iPhones, this is the kind of thing where iphones are better. If the problem is as widespread as the poll suggests, and it involved iphones it would be all over the national news and Apple would have commented on it and fixed it.

I don't recall them doing a lot for bendgate and I work for a wireless company.

Have the 512gb version on Verizon and no problems with any camera freeze ups, not even once. Save photos to internal memory (since there's so much of it)

I'm not thrilled with the camera though, getting too many blurry pix indoors (outdoors is fine). Hoping the upcoming camera update helps with that too...

Can we switch phones then lol. Mine mostly tend to freeze while taking videos and zooming. Told Verizon and they sent me a refurbished model. Can't believe they already have them available smh.

Verizon "System Update 2" hit my phone last night. It is the security patch for October. It also seems to be more than that just the security patch.

My camera was freezing up continuously, it was frozen more than not when I opened the camera. I switched to the Camera FV-5 app for a workaround until Samsung could come out with a fix.

I have opened the camera several times since the update and have not experienced any issues. I'm definitely not confident that the issue has been resolved but I am hopeful. Of course the update process reboots the device and the camera could be responding correctly due to the reboot. I don't think I'll fell comfortable until I've not had an issue for a week or so.

Which firmware version is it, and what do the release notes say it includes?

1ARJ5 and the notes don't say much.

I like the part about "resolve known issues". Keeping my fingers crossed.

I had the opportunity to take about 40 photos today over the course of an hour and did not have any issues. So I remain hopeful. It will take at least a week before I start to feel comfortable. Screenshot_20181026-183650_System%20updates.jpegScreenshot_20181026-183421_Settings.jpeg
