pop before you drop

Just got my Nexus 4. So far so good.

Except cannot get it to do smtp on my private email address.

My ISP requires pop before you drop on port 25. The Nexus 4 just will not do it. Keeps giving me error 535 password/username not authenticated.

I installed K-9 just in case it was due to inbuilt in email client but again no joy.

My Xoom, HTC Desire, HTC Hero and Nexus 7 work just fine with this email account.

So it must be something to do with the Nexus 4.

Anybody else had this? And if so have you managed to solve this?

It should work; works fine for me. Are you sure you have "Requires sign-in" checked in the Outgoing Server settings?

Who is your ISP?

Requires Sign-in: When ticked and filled in with right details it fails with the 535 error.
The only way to get past it is to untick requires sign-in.
So I can only receive email but not send.

My ISP is 34sp. But like i said it works fine on my other android devices. It's just the N4 where it doesn't work.

While I cannot say for sure, I am fairly sure that a handset does not make a difference with regards to things like email accounts.

The OS could be an issue but if it works on the Nexus 7 I highly doubt it is an OS issue.

IIRC Error 535 is usually a password mismatch issue.

Just get a gmail account and have it forward in. Then enjoy all the benefits of having a gmail account as well. Then simply never look back.
