I'm hopeful this gets cracked soon - I signed up for Sprint on June 29th, and I'd like to stick with my Evo, but it there is no root on 2.3.3 by the 28th, I'm planning to swap it for another phone.

If you want the latest and greatest hardware and don't mind the 3D add-on, I'd go with the Evo 3D. Otherwise, pick up a Nexus S 4G. Just my two cents if you need to swap by the end of the month.

On topic: the recent tidbits floating about out there give me hope we could see stable root on the Evo by the end of the month.

Ok sadly I just had to file a claim with insurance and I have a new phone on the way. I'm so sad right now since I will not be able to root. I can't live without root. Well its probably going on CL and going back to a non smart phone until my upgrade in Nov. and get the E3D.

Man that sucks. If you haven't seen there are talks of devs starting or getting ready to start on rooting the OG Evo now that the 3D has the S-OFF or just waiting to go public with it. Haven't been keeping up with 3D that much.

I sure hope the dev's dont leave this phone behind, I purchased it without investigating about root, Are the bootloaders similar on the 2 phones, 3d and og evo ?

I don't think they will leave it behind completely. Just got to give it a little longer than usually because of the new device (3D).

I'be got a fully rootedevo wit one problem.... the accelerometer is broken.... then, I have the replacement wit 2.3.3..... bummer.... have to unroot my baby and keep replacement. Or be charged. My heart was broken... root soon...... please. Lol.

I've been keeping up with the XDA collaboration thread on getting the GB update rooted. Couple promising things cooking, but man is that thread filled to the brim with trolls, whiners, and the thin-skinned. Welcome to the internet, I know, but still.

That's a shame, since it started out with such promise. Then again, the people who are actually working at getting root seemed to mostly abandon the thread after a while (except for the guy working on the Nova exploit). So maybe it's a good thing after all.

Yeah, I was following the thread but it became useless. Let the devs work quietly - there'll be plenty of publicity once they have something to announce. I'm just hoping it's soon!

I am still 2.2 rooted. Are most of you just waiting or are you guys unrooting and then doing the mainstream OTA?

The 3.70 is froyo. Here is the rooted 2.3 rom you can flash.

Gingerbreak doesn't work on the Evo's 2.3.3.
